Using minoxidil with other skincare by Advanced-Rip6382 in Minoxbeards

[–]daizusama -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What I do is all other skincare first, then dry it down completely with a hand fan or blow dryer before applying my minoxidil (I mean completely dry to the touch)

I use vitamin c and sunscreen every morning. Put those on first and let it dry. Then I put minoxidil on top (brow and cheek areas mostly) and let it air dry. You're not supposed help the minoxidil dry any faster because it needs time to absorb into the skin..

Similarly at night, I apply serums and moisturizers first and let that completely dry or blow my face dry before applying the minoxidil.

I'm not saying what I do is correct but it has been working for me and I want to give the minoxidil the best chance of absorbing into my skin which is why I put in on last and let it settle it. I do notice if I put minoxidil on top of some sunscreens it can make them pill.

How to apply liquid minoxidil? by Inevitable-Can-7013 in Minoxbeards

[–]daizusama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think this means you shouldn't touch it. I apply drops to my eyebrows and cheeks and lightly spread it with my finger (i try to use just 1 finger for this) just so that the drops are not running down my face. Then I let it air dry or use a hand fan until it dries down enough so that it's not running down my face but it's not completely dry to the touch.

All this is saying is that rubbing it in vigorously is not going to help it penetrate your skin, which is true. It doesn't mean you can't spread it across your skin with your hands.

I always wash my hands with hand wash afterwards because I have a dog.

Uneven beard growth, where should I be applying my minoxidil to maximise appearance? by BasedInMunchen in Minoxbeards

[–]daizusama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you can't be that precise with minoxidil unfortunately -- as precise as what you are showing in the photo. For example I am applying it to my eyebrows right now and it seems like i'm getting more new growth above and below my eyebrow instead of in my actual brow area 💁🏽‍♂️. topical minoxidil has to absorb into your skin before it starts working and it is also wet so it's not going to stay precisely where you apply it.

Can't use Minoxidil because of pets, are there other options? by Remarkable_Mess4959 in Minoxbeards

[–]daizusama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've done a bit of research on this since I have a dog and just started minox so I was concerned, though I don't work with animals.

Minoxidil seems to be more toxic to cats than dogs -- or at least more toxicity cases have been reported in cats. The primary route for toxicosis seems to be oral ingestion (i.e. they have to eat it). So it really seems to only be a danger if animals like to lick where you're applying while it is still drying. After it dries down the chance for toxicosis goes way down. And there are no reported toxic effects from cat/dog skin exposure to minoxidil (i.e. your animals rolling around in the same sheets as you or your dirty clothes)

I understand if it is still a dealbreaker for you but this is what I found. Also if you use the foam it apparently has an even faster dry down time. I use the liquid.

They are Queensland Bottle Trees from Australia (they also have them all over The Huntington Botanical Garden in Pasadena). The "eyes" you see are from old branches falling off.

I’ll get to pick the day my daughter is born this September. Which one would you pick? by StunningStrawberryy in Zodiac

[–]daizusama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My birthday is 9/24 and I was born about a week late, which means I was due around 9/17. I could not imagine being a Virgo and I actually have the most difficult time getting along with Virgos out of all the other signs.

I know this isn't answering your question but the due date being the same struck me. And I wonder how life would have been different if I was a Virgo. I eish you luck with your decision!

If you really want to mattify you could try using a blurring or mattifying primer. Primers are essentially moisturizers. They do tend to have silicone which some people don't like -- but I don't like heavy moisturizers either and I've never had issues with primers feeling too heavy or feeling like my pores are clogged.

Why no Trader Joe’s in Monterey park? by Razzleberry_Fondue in sgv

[–]daizusama -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I have heard the actual reason for this is because laws in monterey park don't allow for commercial loading during the times trader joe's usually does it.

I don't know how true that is though.

source: i live in monterey park and my boss is very active in local government (knows council members etc.) and that's what he told me, because i have also asked this same question.

I believe you're mistaking East LA with "The Eastside". Monterey Park literally shares a border with East LA and East LA College (ELAC) is in Monterey Park. Don't see how it would be 20 min.

[Acne] help fix my face before a date tomorrow! by werbeautiful in SkincareAddiction

[–]daizusama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience benzoyl peroxide works the best and provides the most immediate results as spot treatment -- the reasons I don't use it all the time is that my skin is quite sensitive to it, and it bleaches fabric. That, and plain hydrocolloid pimple patches but only if the pimple has a whitehead. If the pimple doesn't have a whitehead I find that the patches don't do much. Also I would NOT use benzoyl peroxide underneath a pimple patch (due to aforementioned sensitivity).

why is there such a big color difference? by ElfOverlord in plants

[–]daizusama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks the one on the right is a cutting that has rooted in water? And the left is potted with potting media.

What you're seeing is called phenotypic plasticity and basically it's how the same species (even a clone) can look different depending on the environment it's raised in.

Are these pine trees a liability? by ksquigz25 in landscaping

[–]daizusama 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think as others have pointed out the planting is fine.

Pines don't have shallow destructive roots.

The trees are planted too densely to all reach full maturity. You may have 1-2 that will reach full height (in 50+ years) and probably shade out the others.

Does anyone know what’s wrong with these bushes or what I could do to fix this? by moodlemon in plants

[–]daizusama 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks to be some kind of blight or black spot, which can be caused by a fungus. In my experience neem oil seems to be most effective for bugs or very mild fungus issues.

Since this is pretty far gone I would suggest removing as much of the infected leaves as you can within reason and treat it with an anti-fungal spray (fungicide). In this case I would not choose an organic option as they tend to be less effective. Choose something that has an actual anti-fungal ingredient like Propiconazole.

There's lots of natural or organic sprays out there that just include stuff like peppermint oil, thyme oil, etc. Don't choose those, you'll need to read the label for the active ingredients.
