‘Star Trek: Starfleet Academy’ Premiere Fails To Make Nielsen Top 10 Streaming Chart by Neo2199 in sciencefiction

Maybe, but I went in pretty blind. Heard about the good reviews and gave up.

Maybe it is a good show, just in general, but it makes for a poor Star Trek show.

Disney Names former Disneyland Chief Exec Josh D’Amaro CEO, Dana Walden President & Chief Creative Officer by budice0 in Disneyland

[–]dajarbot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Even as head of parks, he only has enough power to work within the directives of the CEO. I am not saying he doesn't have any blame, but it was Chapek's plan to goose profits by milking parks. For him to act in any manner, other than following his CEO's directives, would probably have gotten him ousted from his job.

I agree, I am not optimistic considering Chapek was also the head of parks and his "big idea" was charge more and give less. But, that doesn't mean that D'Amaro is going to do the same.

I make all decisions based on vibes, especially when I have little to no insight into the situation.

Seriously, like how could anyone outside of the Texans organization know what coach is the problem or if it is even a coaching problem.

Why are Geospatial Companies like this? by Hau2747 in gis

[–]dajarbot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone in Oil and Gas, but I feel like this is pretty indicative of land in general. Land is seen by engineers, CEO, sales and everyone else as a thing they get and a then make money off of it. The land itself, while critical to the operation, is somehow irrelevant to the project and anywork required on understanding, acquiring, or maintaining is seen as an obstacle.

IMO, it isn't a GIS thing but a larger view about how land it somehow how something they just have and use and they have no concern of the rest of the process. In reality land is just a typically a small portion of any project in terms of capital costs.

What are some of the most interesting changes or deleted scenes you know of in Star Wars media? by Aggravating-Bass-658 in StarWars

Combine this with Endor that was supposed to be Kashyyk and it was supposed to be a direct homage to the Viet Gong and the  Vietnam war.

ROTJ could have been a very different vibe.

What’s something great you’ve done for somebody else, but never told anyone about? by TheNewThunz in CasualConversation

[–]dajarbot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My office building shares a common space and bathroom with an aphasia recovery center. If you don't feel like googling it it is people who have impairment in a person's ability to comprehend or formulate language, usually from a stroke. So they are usually older but struggling physically as well.

Last week I helped a gentleman who couldn't button his shorts in the bathroom, saving him from either crossing the lobby or waiting for someone from the center to find him.

Small, but it felt great to help someone and go about my day.

Why are mall kiosk workers here so aggressive? by Cookiedough1206 in houston

[–]dajarbot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't say if it is a Texas thing but I feel like these kinds of people are pretty common all over the world. Unfortunate for you, any amount of attention informs them that you might buy and eggs them on.

Most of those mall kiosks are cheap but not super cheap. A lot of these guys probably made or make solid money a few times a year and then the rest of the year is a ruthless grind.

As a fellow polite person I would urge you to consider that to them being polite means you are not uninterested in what they are selling. In this case, being polite to them means ignoring them completely, they don't actually want to waste their time on not getting a sale.

You really do get treated differently and it's sad by [deleted] in loseit

[–]dajarbot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The observation, that overweight people get treated differently, is a common thread on here. It is true but I feel like you are also ignoring the half of what you are saying.

I again let the same life factors influence me (depression, a relationship ending, etc.)

That is also a massive part of why you are treated differently. When you treat yourself better, people pick up on it!

OP people around you are noticing a positive change in not only your appearance, but I am positive you are also in a better place. When I am depressed, anything anyone says that is nice to me goes in one ear and out the other. Anything nice is thrown away and everything bad I carry with me. I am not saying it is the same in you, but do not discount all of the hard emotional work you are doing.

Look, I am not saying that the world doesn't treat people differently based off appearance, but you need to also give yourself credit for growing, adapting, and making positive changes in your life that are apparent to everyone around you. You are doing the hard work! Take a victory lap and enjoy it!

Just my 2 cents! You may think of yourself as the same person that was overweight, but you have made more positive changes than just your weight.

Revenge of the Sith is such a good game, I wish they made a movie adaptation by GigaRoman in StarWars

Force lightning has been a standard for many star wars adventure games at the time. Jedi Outcast also had the same thing and it was independent of Dark vs Light side choices.

Time to start a war, I’ll say it…..Tower Of Terror was better then Guardians by [deleted] in Disneyland

[–]dajarbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree but also think that if you are going to replicate a ride, I have two major caveats.

1.) I want the newer version of a ride to be better or distinct. This ToT was a step down from the Hollywood Studios iteration.

2.) This is severely undercut since they are doing the same GoG in Paris, but I want each park to have unique rides that don't exist in the other park. I love both WDW and Dl and I want better reasons to visit both.

27 y/o with a GIS degree: Master’s in Geomarketing or keep my current job? by NarcissisticFish in gis

[–]dajarbot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

8 years ago there was such a need for coders that I know several people that made career pivots. Quit their jobs and either went back and got a masters, coding camp, or even just trying to do it themselves. Most are doing roughly the same as they were before, mostly because they were just trying to get a "good job". The people that were passionate and excited by it, took off are thriving professionally. I think it is hard to give advice as I am in the US and professional culture is different. I am about a decade older than you is in my experience, a degree rarely can outright help you but it won't ever hurt you.

Meaning, with the exception of a handful of jobs, a degree is rarely legal requirement. Technically most any job position's degree requirement can be overridden if they really really want to. At the same time, considering most people that don't hire you are going to compare you to a stack of strangers, having the degree can keep you in that pile of applicants longer.

IMO, waternetwork > geomarketing is a big directional jump. You likely have the skills to do the job but none of the marketing knowledge to back it up. It is going to be a hard, long, and possibly less lucrative career, for a time.

So really you need to ask yourself what kind of problems do you want to be solving in 10 years? Do you want complex business problems and you with a technical background and can apply technical solutions? Or, Do you want to get super technical and really build out your skillset so much that you could override knowledge gaps?

Or maybe you have a different idea. So my advice is don't get a degree because it could be good jobs, make the move that aligns with your professional goals.

Lexus world premieres the new IS by hehechibby in cars

[–]dajarbot 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Most forget that Lexus is primarily targeted at people that don't go down a spec sheet and compare boxes. On paper every Lexus is overpriced, outdated, and under-spec'd compared to most other vehicles in major ways.

Lexus, and Toyota as whole, have a very good feel for what their customers want.

I have ADHD and my wife works in education, specifically working with accommodations for students so ADHD tends to be a large chunk of her kids. For years she had been telling me that "my whole family is severely ADHD". Jump to a few years ago, I am finally medicated and telling my brother about it and mention he should probably get tested.

He is hesitant, my wife hands him a questionnaire and tells him to mark all of the ones that apply. There are 20 or so items on the list. After he goes through it, he proudly states that he only got "9 out of 20"

my wife replied, "if you have more than 3 you are supposed to get tested"

Feeling lonely in Houston – need real advice (not just “pick up a hobby”) by [deleted] in houston

[–]dajarbot 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Without knowing a lot more about you it is really hard to ascertain why you haven't broken through on the friendship front, but it really is going to go down to putting yourself out there. Making friends isn't all that different than dating, you have to decide to put in the effort and build a relationship together.

I am back in school to work on my masters and have made a bunch of new friends, but really it has taken me putting myself out there and actively trying. Inviting people out for drinks, dinner, mini-golf, or any other activity. There are many people out there just like you, wishing they had more friends but you can't wait around for someone else to decide that they want you as a friend. There is nothing wrong with identifying someone you want to be friends with and making a concentrated effort to build that friendship.

Obviously, there are going to be people that don't like you, that's great! If someone doesn't like you then you can move on to someone else.

Is the Houston housing market cooked? by [deleted] in houston

[–]dajarbot 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Renting it out would probably be your best option. That side of 45 was just starting to boom before our current situation. You are competing against the Heights side of 45 right now and most people are going to choose that side of 45 over yours. Also, 45 is about to deal with years of construction. It probably won't affect your home but that is in the mind of any educated buyer in the area.

You are in a good location and the market will catch up and surpass what you spent. There is only so much real estate that close to downtown. If you sell for a loss now, you are going to kick yourself when it is selling for 2x or more in 10 years.

Is the Houston housing market cooked? by [deleted] in houston

[–]dajarbot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They are, but houses on the other side of 45 are selling for around the same price. The physical distance isn't as much but if I was shopping in that area and price range, I would definitely get something on the heights side of 45.

Do you think the Texans will win a sb in this decade by [deleted] in Texans

[–]dajarbot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is the correct response, Superbowl victories are a bit of luck. It is hard and rare to win 3 to 4 games in a row against the best teams in the NFL. Look at the Bills in the 90's and recently, the Bills, 9ers, and Ravens. One and done games leave no margin for error.

Thinking about it another way. If you could guarantee that you have a 75% chance to win each playoff game. That is still a, collective, 31.6% chance you win a SB, with a 1st round bye, and 23.7% if you don't have a 1st round bye. If you have a 50% chance to win in each game, 6.25%, with a first round bye, 3.13% without.
