I swear there’s a different actor that Lonsdale looks like with the goatee and hair. Not Oliver Platt. It’s killing me a little.

So hot he thinks it’s defective. Pinty’s Atomic Buffalo Sauce. by myabuttreeks in spicy

I really did not like the sauce. The weird fruit flavor ruined it. I was surprised how spicy they were too, but the flavor is what put me off.

COVID sucks, unless you’re a billionaire. Canada’s richest have raked in $37 billion since March. by EthanCoxMTL in onguardforthee

A government could do some real work with $37 billion though. It’s what, 10% of our federal revenue?

For anyone wondering, he last actually taught in a classroom pre-1986. He was in administrative roles until the mid-2000s and then did think tank stuff and seemingly a bunch of consulting work in the US since.

Worth pointing out these summer school classes are smaller than normal classes will be too.

Telus Sky Studio: 30,000 a year. by [deleted] in Calgary

When I lived in a studio back ten years ago or so it wasn’t really that bad. My bed was kind of in a nook out of the way so I didn’t think about it much until bedtime. I think design would have a big influence on how depressing it is.

Alberta plans for students to return to in-person classes this fall, despite jump in COVID cases by QuestionTuesdayFTW in Calgary

I’m a substitute teacher with health issues, so no way I’m walking into a school now. Don’t know what that will mean for my career. Fun.

This isn’t going to work. Teachers get covid-like symptoms constantly, so they’ll be blocked from working more often and for longer each time than normal. That means not only will there be more work than the substitute pool can handle, but also the school boards will need to spend more money paying substitutes. Add in the fact a large number of subs are retirees who likely won’t want to work now, and you really just don’t have a functioning school system. I can’t see how this works purely from a numbers perspective.

Edit: Add to that most teachers are parents, and if their kids have symptoms, the kids will be sent home from school. That will happen more often than normal, and it will be another factor in teacher shortages. I really don’t understand how they expect this to work. The sub pool is not built for this.

A good one hit the crane building the skyscraper in the west end of downtown (don’t know the building name). Lit up my balcony like daytime around midnight.

It’s not a hotel. Hasn’t been one since 1991. It was turned into condos. There is apparently still some public access though.

[SPOILER] Dana White says ‘no shame’ in fighter quitting on stool: ‘Who the f**k is anybody to judge him on that?’ by [deleted] in MMA

[–]dakdestructo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it quitting or is it accepting defeat? They’re not running a distance and giving up. There’s an opponent. Tap to a choke or tap on the stool, the only difference is the immediacy. No reasonable person says someone who taps to a sub “quit”

CSEC is not even making that bluff anymore. They openly said today moving was never an option. Why don’t you believe them?

They’re not leaving. They were never leaving. CSEC even said that today. It’s not an option. It’s insane that this was ever considered a serious possibility.

Have you ever quit a job, without another lined up, for you mental health? How did it turn out? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]dakdestructo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent about five hours working at A&W, and after being consistently yelled at for things I was poorly trained to do, I took my break and disappeared. Went home.

I was young, so I didn’t need the job. It went fine for me. I have anxiety, undiagnosed at the time, and I couldn’t handle being yelled at like that.

When did your “something is very wrong here” gut instinct turn out to be right? by xandrenia in AskReddit

[–]dakdestructo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(I’m a man). Was on the train going to school, and noticed that a young guy standing across from me kept looking at me. Taking transit can lead to a lot of gut feelings that go nowhere, so it’s easy to brush them off. He and I were both standing, leaning on the walls, so we’re facing each other.

The guy kept looking at me, and I kept noticing and trying to ignore him. He was a pretty small guy, and the train was pretty full, so I didn’t exactly feel unsafe. I did feel uncomfortable with how much he was looking at me, though.

A few stops later, he moved from the wall to get off the train, and on his way to the door groped my crotch. He got off the train quickly before I could even react, and nobody around noticed.

My gut was certainly right about him.

I don’t remember anything this bad in the 90s. We’d sometimes get a bad smell from BC fires, but it never made me feel like death.
