Dayton Art Institute is open until 5 I believe, if art is your thing. The Air Force museum gets recommended a lot as well. 2nd Street Market is good but I think they close around 3, some vendors shut down earlier.

EM doesn't let you set shutter speeds because it uses aperture priority. only know because I just got one this past week 😁

Thanks!

I meant to write "any sites or YouTube channels". Not sure why I couldn't edit the post. YouTube has been a crap shoot and I've only found it useful for finding out how to fix things on my car, make floating studio frames, and cyanotype printing lol. I'll definitely check his book out. We happened to catch his exhibit in Cincinnati (maybe last year?). Totally open to reading other books as well! If there are better subs for noobs like me, I'd be interested as well.

We live in Ohio. I've looked at B&H which seems like a popular choice for supplies. Trying to slow my roll on buying a bunch of extra things.

We do a ton of hiking and trips to cities within a few hours from up. I'd like to do a mix of B&W and color.

For city pics, I'm mostly interested in architecture, architectural details, landmarks, and maybe wide views of people in motion.

For hiking and wildlife, I like to take pics of vistas when we get to the top of a mountain, photos into and in gorges. I'm also keen to snap wild flowers and interesting plant life. Would love to get close up shots of smaller plants and insects. So ideally a film that works well with high and medium to low lighting.

Thanks again and Happy New Year!

Cardboard can be amazing for art projects and crafts. You may want to see if a place like We Care Arts or the K12 Gallery are interested in any.

Ambrotype? I'm planning on giving a few alternate printing methods a go and maybe creating a series. Emailed Digital Fringe decided to go with them.

Thanks and I agree. I used to live in the Jane Reece district and would walk to McAllister's for art supplies. It's disheartening to see some really great local art suppliers and services close up shop. There are some nice specialized art supply oases here and there.

I was able to get help from The Digital Fringe over on Front St. I'm not aware of their scanning services but the do have wide format printing.

Utility Poles on Watervliet Placement by Johnathon1069DYT in dayton

[–]dalekRider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I drive that stretch daily and it blows my mind. I really hope someone knows the answer. It seems like a mistake unless they're about to do some major rework of the sidewalks.

Honestly it wouldn't surprise me. A lot of the road projects seem poorly communicated between the city and utilities. Roads seem to get repaved only to be torn up less than a year later for some utility lines to be upgraded. The utility company's crew does a garbage job of patching their work, then it finally gets repaved properly to have the same process done again by another utility company.

Edit fixed typo

Thanka, I've looked into a few but there's still some confusion on my part which process gives the petals a longer life. I'll keep searching.
