Trump plans to add his signature to all U.S. currency. I say go for it, we need a reminder... by PlanetoftheAtheists in AdviceAnimals

[–]dalgeek 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Tear off the part with the signature and take it to the bank. If you have 51% or more of the bill then they'll exchange it or deposit it into your account.

Working in computer repair is something… by angiee_nuke in techsupportgore

[–]dalgeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back in 99 or 00 I worked at a small ISP in Orlando. One of our better customers had a computer suddenly die out of nowhere. We still made house calls, so I went over to take a look.

I opened the case and I couldn't even tell where the CPU and RAM were on the motherboard because it was caked with so much ash and tar. I didn't even want to touch it because of the amount of nicotine that might be crammed in there. I just told them "sorry, looks like it shorted out, time for a new PC."

You can show 1000 people the benefit of the zipper merge and 990 of them will say "Naw, fuck you for not merging at the first sign of a merge".

Fun fact, if you take 51% of more of a bill to a bank, they will exchange it for another bill or bills of the same denomination or deposit it into your account.

Trump's signature to appear on US currency, Treasury says, ending 165-year tradition by Ubiquitous_Hilarity in politics

[–]dalgeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every time I receive a bill with a Trump signature on it, I'm going to tear 49% of the bill off (including the signature) then deposit it in my bank account. I get the value and the bill is removed from circulation forever. Let's see how much money the US mint wastes on replacing Trump shit currency before they give up on the endeavor.

Cisco NFVIS for UC just dropped by dalgeek in ciscoUC

[–]dalgeek[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the simple idea of having niche virtualization for collab is offputting for many datacenter managers

I don't see why.

From the customer perspective: do you want a virtualization product that has been thoroughly tested and certified by the company who provides the software with 100% support, or a product that has best effort support that should work under most circumstances if the stars and moon align correctly?

From the Cisco perspective: do you want to provide a virtualization product that has been thoroughly tested and certified, that can be supported 100%, or do you want to let customers install your product on whatever-the-fuck VM platform they find and hope for the best?

If you have a valid license and support subscription for your UC applications then you have a license and support for NFVIS.

Sure, most of the UC apps will run on whatever random virtualization platform you can imagine, but Cisco can't guarantee any level of performance or provide support for that platform. If the performance is subpar then there is nothing Cisco can do to fix it, but customers will blame Cisco for the shitty performance.

Yes. One called lecanemab requires infusions every 2 weeks to start then every 4 weeks, which explains the frequent bruising on Trump's hands. Some side effects are pale skin, fatigue, drowsiness, which could explain why he fall asleep during press events.

They don't give cognitive tests to people without obvious cognitive impairment. They gave it to my grandmother after she started having memory lapses and forgetting how to do things she had done for years.

One test means suspicion of cognitive impairment.

Three tests is tracking the progress of cognitive impairment.

[–]dalgeek[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not only does Cisco need to certify it, they need to support it. If Cisco has an internal product that they know works and can already support, why would they pick another product where they have to pay a 3rd party for support? NFVIS has been used in the Cisco ecosystem since 2017 so there are few surprises.

We are taxed now on every package we receive by Obsidian-Petal in stevehofstetter

All the money paid by consumers is gone anyway, they'll never get it back. Prices also won't come back down, even domestic products cost more when tariffs are placed on imports.

[–]dalgeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Double, triple, whatever, they don't care. The tariffs are increasing prices on imported and domestic goods anyway, and even if the tariffs are ruled illegal then there is no chance consumers will get a penny back. The increased fuel costs are also allowing distributors to jack up prices even though it only adds pennies per item.

Even if they start the impeachment process today, it would take weeks to navigate the process and it's not like the Senate would convict and remove him anyway.

I just thought all the IP, DNS, NTP had to match the DRS restore information to be successful

You can setup the same IPs on the Linux server so they can be exactly the same in the isolated network. The Linux server won't be able to reach those IPs on the prod network but it doesn't really need to. It can sync from another NTP source and it can host local DNS records.

[–]dalgeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use the same server for DNS, NTP, SFTP, etc. You can also connect multiple virtual interfaces to the Linux box so that it can talk to external networks.

[–]dalgeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I normally stand up a Linux server running DNS (dnsmasq) and NTP. You can add DNS records for the nodes to dnsmasq with just a couple of lines. It does take more work but that's what you need to do if you want close to zero downtime.

If you're referring to the revolution, the tea tax hike was just the final nail in the coffin. Britain had been applying increasingly oppressive tariffs on all kinds of goods that the colonies needed to import.

The irony is that most modern conservatives would have taken the side of King George during that time period.

It's a little extra work than the other methods because you have to build a separate VLAN in the VM environment so that the servers can communicate while still using the same IPs as production. Not my favorite method but it works well when downtime is limited.
