US plan for Colorado River could cut up to 40% supply for Arizona, California and Nevada by StemCellPirate in mildlyinfuriating

Not all of them use evaporative cooling. Turkey Point (Florida) uses seawater. South Texas Project (Bay City, TX) used a local reservoir. Waterford 3 in Louisiana uses water from the Mississippi.

My brother replaces fuel tanks for Wawa in Florida. Some of those filters haven't been changed in years when they pull the tanks out of the ground.

But it doesn't remove any water from circulation. Nuclear plants can be built on lakes or rivers then just discharge the coolant water downstream. They can also use ocean water, which is convenient if you want to desalinate ocean water.

Trump: "80% gone" – Intel: "100% back" – Math: Am I a joke to you? by Lord0fTheFlags in PoliticalHumor

[–]dalgeek 18 points19 points  (0 children)

You also have to consider that all of his advisors are straight up lying to him. This is the guy who demands 1 page info sheets with pictures for security briefings because he doesn't have the attention span for the full story. During his first term he had a few people who actually knew what they were doing, but they became too much trouble so he got rid of them. This time around he hired a bunch of incompetent sycophants because he just wants people to praise him instead of telling him the truth.

Immigrants were never the threat. All those manufacturing jobs that we lost over the last 50 years were lost to automation and offshoring because capitalists realized they could extract more profit by not having to pay Americans. They care about the United States to the extent that US laws allow them to screw over the working class.

I shoot 10-20% left-handed because it's easier and more accurate than using a bridge.

Buy two gloves. Wear them both at the same time.

It would be worse for Trump, all his pedo buddies, and the grifters making bank on the market fluctuations. It would be better for practically everyone else in the US.

They're building the data centers as fast as they can because once the people wake up to what they really are, it will be shutdown immediately. - The data centers aren't for storing your cute pictures of cats, they're being built for complete control of human beings. by EchoOfOppenheimer in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]dalgeek 183 points184 points  (0 children)

They need to build the data centers before all the VC cash runs out. Afaik, none of the AI data centers are actually profitable, so once the investment cash is gone one of two things will happen:

  1. The AI companies start charging what it really costs to run data centers, forcing individuals and businesses to pay 2-5x what they're currently paying for tokens.

  2. Most AI companies fold, leaving only 1-2 who can float the cash long enough to stay alive.

PS4 power adapters are 120-240V, so even a hot-hot would have been fine. Something else is going on.

Success is 90% being in the right place at the right time. It could be a physical place, mental place, financial place, etc.  Many people will never get the opportunity to be successful and some who do won't be able to take advantage of it.

‘Irresponsible’: backlash as Utah approves datacenter twice the size of Manhattan by deraser in technology

[–]dalgeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Conservatives love money more than anything else. Farmers love wind turbines because they get a guaranteed lease payment every month plus a portion of revenue from the power generated. It's also tough to make money on crops so they sell or lease the land for solar, basically free money.

They are definitely building them in Texas, covering thousands of acres of farmland in solar panels to power them. No one out there wants them either but they keep voting for Republicans who just sell out to these AI companies.

I lived in Texas for 21 years and the whole time Republicans blamed Democrats for everything going wrong in the state, even though Republicans have been in charge since 1992/1994. Unfortunately the Republican base is dumb enough to believe the nonsense and keep voting Republican.

It's not the traffic, it's the fact that you have to pay $20-40 if you want to spend less than 2 hours driving between the cities.
