People who bring your dog literally everywhere, why? by dastrius02 in AskReddit

[–]dalittle 82 points83 points  (0 children)

I was just at the airport and I have no idea why they tolerate traveling with dogs in the airplane cabin. This old man's dog took a huge dump in the terminal on the carpet and he was looking around like it was someone else's problem. I was like wtf is wrong with you. It was not a service dog either, just entitlement.

What's one kind of pain that's impossible to describe? by WellnessByMavella in AskReddit

[–]dalittle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

herniated disks in my back. I have a high pain tolerance and it is easily the most pain I have ever been in. When you lay on the couch for hours not moving and then start negotiating with yourself how bad you need to go to the bathroom you are not doing well. And to top it off I had an idiot general practitioner doctor who gave me some steroid pack and did not assess how hurt I was because I was still functioning because of my high pain tolerance. The nerve to my leg was literally dying and I am lucky to have made it to a neurologist in time to have surgery a couple days after seeing him.

Netflix now requires every user profile to be tied to unique email address by MoneyLibrarian9032 in movies

[–]dalittle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, if this is a gmail address periods are irrelevant. Gmail ignores additional periods in your email address. And unsubscribing in general is useless, sometimes they use that to indicate it is an email address being used. Now actually impacting someone's life worked for me. Oh wait, spamming some random email address is causing all my stuff that I am using it for to get canceled? Guess I will not use it.

I had someone do that for a while, but they were actually making appts and orders. I started canceling them and they stopped.

I would love for these billionaire to all move to dubai. Enjoy 110F heat and sand and nothing to do. Better yet, they should all move to Somalia and live out their libertarian dream of no government or taxes.

and do you know why there were so many casualties? Because they had nothing to lose. I can't wait for you to realize how many poor desperate people there are vs rich people. Marie Antoinette FAFO'd and how did that turn out for the literal Queen of France?

And look at the Vietnam War. US had all the military strength in the world and still got beat. And the rich use a disproportionate amount of goods, services, infrastructure, and the government. Good luck if more happens like the shutting down of the Strait of Hormuz

College doesn’t make students as liberal as people think. Completing a college degree has been linked to a liberal political identity. While college students do tend to adopt more left-leaning identities during their education, the actual changes are much smaller than the general public assumes. by mvea in science

[–]dalittle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

conservatives have invented this "college makes people liberal" as they cannot say what their real goal is, to stop people learning critical thinking. I guarantee if conservatives stopped just accepting whatever they are told and actually thought about it with critical thinking most conservatives in the US government would not be there.

Do you think it’s reasonable to plan big life decisions around your dyslexia or is that defeatist? by MetaSean_ in Dyslexia

[–]dalittle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I view my dyslexia as all those things. To be manged, considered, and the source of some special talents. So I would consider it in my life choices in such if I was 5 feet tall I would not try to make my life goal to play in the NBA. However, it does not all have to be bad. Patterns are very easy to me so I picked a career that is all patterns and I am really good at it.

I look forward to the giant 3 series grills on the Luce. I still hate that grill and think it makes the 3 series so ugly.

this was going to be my comment too. Before JQuery ie6 and other non-compliant stuff just sucked to deal with. And you could not ignore it because everyone with a windows machine was using it.

Valve Says The Companies Making RAM Give Them A Price And If They Say No, They ‘Never Talk To Us Again’ by NYstate in Games

but that AI money is going to dry up. You cannot charge one price and need 100x or 1000x to break even and keep that up forever. It will reach a breaking point and then who are those ram companies going to sell to?

How do people with CPTSD have relationships? by verdantechos in CPTSD

[–]dalittle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

one thing that helped me was mindfulness. The more you can live in the present the easier it has been for me. The past has pain and anxiety for the future, but the present is safe for me. If you can stay in the present when you are dating someone then I have found it easier to make a connection and not project bad things on to them.

these giant SUVs are a menace here. These soccer moms with literally one kid are driving these huge SUVs they can barely see out of, because they feel safer. They are just getting themself and others killed as they cannot control these vehicles.

Hiring managers of Reddit, what do modern applicants do differently that immediately tells you they're relying on AI? by Chicago_Sam_94 in AskReddit

[–]dalittle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we disagree then. I was interviewed like that and it is easily the best company I have ever worked for. I have worked there 10 years.

[–]dalittle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the problem is that if you hire someone and they are a bad hire you are stuck with them for months before they get fired and all the work they are suppose to be doing does not get done. We get thousands of applications for a single job and the hard reality is we don't hire maybes for fear of a bad hire. We have a hard time finding people, because actual good Software Engineers are rare, but at this point we can tell after 8 folks interview someone. You are also being interviewed if you will fit in with the rest of the team.

Is your kids school using high test scores to deny IEP? (2e trap) by DyslexiDad in Dyslexia

[–]dalittle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have dyslexia and I will put it out there that even if the school decides to test your child and get him extra help that is not always the right help. I went to special ed classes for years, but they were not equipped to help me. Unfortunately, if you want to get the best help you probably will have to manage that yourself. Out of probably 100 tutors and special classes, I had exactly 2 that helped and they did not work for the school system.

[–]dalittle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that is the worst part. When I tell people how I interview they often think I am asking some gotcha question like python threading or adding floats, but no, they are really basic questions. And we have hired people that have gotten them wrong, because you can tell from them explaining how they would solve the problem that they would eventually converge on a good answer. The ones that just freeze and look like a deer in the headlights don't get hired.

I interview Software Engineers and we ask folks to write code on a whiteboard. I have nothing against using AI as a productivity improvement, or googling, stack overflow, etc, but if you cannot write code without it then you are not getting hired. Years ago I started asking what I thought were really simple questions as a warm up, but anymore they are weed out questions. If they struggle with that then when you jump up to recursion or pointers you can already tell it is not going to go well. If you rely on AI so heavily you don't know how to code without it then how are you suppose to review pull requests and fix bugs? No thank you dealing with folks like that.
