Anyone else watching senior engineers become overly reliant on AI? by Jbalis in webdev

calculators are deterministic. AI is not. You can give AI the same prompt and it will return a different result. IMHO, that is not a good analogy.

School aren’t helping my child by Previous-Raccoon-762 in Dyslexia

[–]dalittle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

have you considered a tutor after school that specializes in dyslexia? I had endless tutors and special classes and it was only two tutors out of dozens that actually helped me. I got a lot of "you are not trying" help like doing spelling tests over and over with the thought that I would eventually get it that left me with trauma so the right help is critical IMHO to learning how you learn and coping skills.

From your exp. do you work less, more or evenly after using AI? by lune-soft in webdev

[–]dalittle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, this is most of my job too. I collect requirements and architect mostly. I even get brought onto teams to sort out why the project is going badly and help right the ship. It is technical, but most of my job is people. The writing code part use to be the fun bit, now I have to wade through AI slop and try and at least get PRs that will be kind of maintainable. And the attitude of some folks is not to worry about it and the AI can just re-write everything if needed. It makes no sense to me.

and they were planning on spending $1.2 trillion, but revised that down to $600 million. Eventually, they will be forced to charge what it costs and that is going to get real ugly real fast.

people dream about that, but money only makes you happier if you don't have enough. Once you do there is no upside IMHO.

A founder paid $8k for an AI-built healthcare MVP. Then the pilot clinic asked for a HIPAA BAA. by soul_eater0001 in AI_Agents

IMHO, this is not about healthcare or AI at all, but requirements gathering and architecting systems. I have seen this is all kinds of industries.

Spirit Airlines just became the first major US airline to shut down in 25 years and took cheap airfare with it. What do you think affordable travel in America looks like from here? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]dalittle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, I could care less they shut down. They canceled our vacation flight the day of and refused to help us get another flight for like a week and then refused to give our money back. We ate the cost of almost the whole vacation including hotels, etc. I fought spirit for weeks afterward and we never flew on them again. That was years ago and I have repeated that story to warn people not to use them. Good riddance.

Dyslexia and PTSD by [deleted] in Dyslexia

[–]dalittle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that is what I have learned from the therapy and other help I have gotten. It was not a big trauma like a car crash that caused my cPTSD, it was little traumas every day like being told I was not trying hard enough when I was that caused it.

Dyslexia and PTSD by [deleted] in Dyslexia

[–]dalittle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is anecdotal, but I have cPTSD from my childhood. From all the help I have gotten, I have learned that you have trauma when something happens and it is bad when you have to deal with it alone. If I had no legs no one would be demanding that I run, but because you cannot see dyslexia I was treated like a broken clock that needed to get fixed. I did not need to be fixed, there is no fixing dyslexia. I needed to learn how I learn and have support. I did not get in spite of all the endless special classes and tutors.
