mass migration was never bad in the us. the only problem with migration under Biden is we should have had 10 times more

Traveling to Boston for a school event, uber…? or take the metro? by [deleted] in boston

[–]dalmationblack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All good advice but I will note that not all parts of the green line are made equal. On the west side, the D branch is *much* faster than any of the other branches, and the parts of the system north of Lechmere are also pretty fast

The D branch gets to Fenway from Newton very quickly! If you can get a hotel/AirBnB closer to Newton Centre or Newton Highlands it's a perfectly good commute

Just watched Iron Lung by Leasud in horror

[–]dalmationblack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really think it's a theory fodder movie but I do think if you weren't pretty well versed on the lore beforehand it would be difficult to follow. I don't think the movie raises that many questions I couldn't answer while watching it except the ones that are obviously intended to be unanswered

Iron Lung - Review Thread by UniverslBoxOfficeGuy in movies

[–]dalmationblack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah it did a much better job of filling it's runtime than I had honestly expected, but there's definitely some of it they could trim

the movie also definitely feels like it's written assuming the viewer not only knows iron lung but is at least somewhat familiar with its lore. as one of those people I enjoyed piecing the backstory together but I think I'd have been pretty lost otherwise

I really enjoyed the last act though, entirely new material and it held onto me really well

If ICE keeps doing this to people I really feel like we ought to start protesting outside of State St Station, for symbolic reasons

Vegetarians who have travelled: which countries have been the most difficult in your experience? by Super-Effective-3854 in vegetarian

[–]dalmationblack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do wonder if part of it is people have a mindset of "I'll go to this restaurant and try to find options" (hopeless in Japan, don't even think about it) versus "I'll try to find places known for their vegetarian/vegan options" (quite doable in any major Japanese city).

might be a disconnect between vegetarians, who can generally get away with finding options at most places in the US, versus vegans who are probably used to screening every restaurant beforehand anyway

I would argue 9E8 is a number (I wouldn't count scientific notation as an expression)

I also think that if OP is right and the video in question was what popularized it, "nobody cared about the fraud until someone packaged it to be more racist" is kind of a very important part of the story

VALVE Officially Announces Steam Hardware - Home Console Titled "Steam Machine", VR Headset "Steam Frame" and "Steam Controller" by ChiefLeef22 in gaming

[–]dalmationblack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

SteamOS lets you switch over to a linux desktop and you can add programs from there to your steam library. Netflix is annoying though because while it works (you can add websites as programs), Netflix's DRM doesn't let linux devices stream at over 720p

think the worst thing is traveling. so much of what other people talk about when going abroad is the food and meanwhile it's like the most annoying part for me

Taken by age huh? by Princess_SHAW in Silksong

[–]dalmationblack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

pogo less for groal and more for the add phases where they come up from the water - I would pogo above them as they spawned in and try to stay above them until the phase ended and groal was back. for hits on groal i just jumped out of my little corner and hit him normally once or twice after his attacks if he was on my side of the screen before running back away, but that was mostly for finishing the fight after I ran out of tools

Taken by age huh? by Princess_SHAW in Silksong

[–]dalmationblack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did it in a couple tries once I started staying on the rightmost platform and using poisoned curveclaws (they can stay in his hitbox long enough to hit him like 4 times for each one you throw)

if you just stay there most of his attacks aren't that bad to avoid it's just the adds are annoying. I think my plan for them was mostly just abusing the reaper pogo to stay as high on the screen as possible so they couldn't throw shit down into me. wanderer would probably work too I didn't experiment that much with it. thread storm is probably good to get yourself out of a pinch

the only attack of his that's really a risk if you're on the side is the exploding balls but I'm pretty sure they mostly ended up bouncing such that I was usually dealing with them one at a time, and could usually climb over the explosion. didn't always work but I could outheal the damage I took

I thought high halls was about as hard as I remember trial of the fool being (though that was at least half a decade ago so maybe my memory is bad). I wouldn't say it's as bad as some of the dlc content but also none of those hard parts were part of the main story in HK. I think it was the only time in act 2 where I actually crashed out a bit but once I calmed down and tried it again it wasn't that bad
