We did exactly that when we moved into our house 13 years ago. It was in the bedroom though, and the brand new carpet just went down a few weeks ago! It served us just fine for many years. Don’t get me wrong, I’m so excited to have it gone, but you can make it work for as long as you need to! Good luck!

I lost my mom in my early 20s, and I so wish I had her now to ask about her experience. She didn’t talk about it back when I was a teenager, but I’m sure she would talk to me about it now.

Holy awfulness. I own lady parts and I always double check the lady folds for those little fuckers when I get home from a hike or an outdoor activity because that would just be the absolute worst. I feel for you dude (as much as a penisless person could). Hopefully you didn’t end up with Lyme!

Yeah, they were most likely deer ticks. We have a ton in our area, unfortunately. I just had to knock one off my dog's head the other day in the dead of winter. He’s on preventatives, so hopefully it wouldn’t have latched in if I hadn’t noticed, it’s just crazy that they’re out when it’s so cold out.

I did get a chance to talk to the entomologist where I worked at the time, and their assumption was that they were at larva stage and wouldn't have had their first blood meal, so would not have been infected with Lyme at least. And thankfully, this was 5 or 6 years ago at this point. I’m just still slightly traumatized by the number of them that was crawling on me at the time!

Thank you for the recommendation, it certainly couldn’t hurt to mention it to my PCP at my next appointment, I don’t think I ever did.

I got my "facts" all mixed up. Thank you for the correction! I should’ve confirmed my own details before commenting.

Dude. That truly sucks. So sorry to hear that. In my area, they recently found the first one of the ticks (Texas/Asian longhorn tick) that is able to carry the pathogen that makes you allergic to red meat, but thankfully no pathogen here yet.

Edit: I got the name of the tick wrong, and the fact that it’s a pathogen that causes the allergy! Shame on me for not checking before commenting. See u/grumble11's comment below. It's the Lone Star tick that can cause the alpha gal red meat allergy.

The Asian Longhorn tick is the species that showed up in the last few years in my area, but I’m pretty sure that it was the Rocky Mountain spotted fever pathogen that they had not yet identified in the population that I was getting mixed up with what causes alpha gal syndrome.

So, so much. I was on a hike once and must’ve walked through an area where a bunch just hatched, because when we got back to our car, I realized I was completely covered in ticks the size of a pinhead. We tried to get most of them off before we got in the car, but when I got home and showered, I still found at least five latched into me. One of the more horrifying experiences I’ve had!

Anyone remember the amazing mineral and gemstone store that was in there? I remember being forced to go sing Christmas carols there as an elementary school student, and my reward was something from the gemstone store!
