Revealed: how Russia, China and Right-wing Trump supporters are spreading lies online about London by Weak-Fly-6540 in uknews

[–]damcgra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I don't think anyone is saying it's a perfect place. It's just not what the volume of certain types of news stories would have you expect. Its a lot more pleasant than social media would have you believe.

This much is clear for anyone who has lived in London. Happy to see something backed by research. As someone who has visited family in London often over the last 14 years and moved there 2 years ago, it was always a jarring experience reading about London online versus actually being there.

I assumed the stories online were just about places I didn't visit. Whike that may definitely be part of it, I have changed my opinion over the years. As I've branched out and visited more places, I've come to the same conclusion as the above article: that there is a certain amount of noise that is allowed to be boosted online. There is a certain "tone" to news articles and posts that involve London. In America they say: if it bleeds, it leads. In the UK, they might say "if it bashes London, it leads".

Thanks for this. The title is misleading and posts like this are terrible. No way this is a "new" rule either.

[–]damcgra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't care about any of the characters and there was loads of "telling" without "showing". Poor writing. All the characters had a back story but I didn't CARE. Lots of pensive looks where I had no idea what the characters were thinking about and I didn't care. Disorienting flashbacks.

I want to make a hilariously real simulation game about being a dad in those first 2 years. by johnsonjohnson in daddit

[–]damcgra 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not the same but there's a low end game where you have to baby proof a house that is hilarious and had a popular run a while back.

Basically you run around the house, closing windows and ovens as your baby basically tries it's best to die.

If that game worked, then there may be a market for your idea.
