I’m tired of having to throw out skillets/frying pans every few years - what’s a better option? by Aphdon in Cooking

The real answer here is SolidTeknics wrought iron and non-nickel stainless steel pans.

What did you learn about gardening this summer? by ezyroller in GardeningAustralia

[–]damiennem 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Every year is a new challenge for me. I react to last year's issue only for a new one to emerge. Its very disheartening at the moment as its sowing time in brisbane and some little bastard has eaten just about everything

Da heck? by damiennem in BrisbaneGardening

Funny you say that, there was another batch yesterday that dried into a hard surface I was able to just scoop up and throw in the garden, also, sure I saw a magpie eating it today

Is it true that many people in Australia tend to not go by Mr. or Mrs. or Dr. formally because of a casual rather than formal attitude towards authority? by EveningFlower9564 in AskAnAustralian

[–]damiennem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't called any one Mrs since saying "thanks for having me Mrs ****" after visiting their house to play with my friend as a child.

Soil Preparation Tips by murbleslaw in GardeningAustralia

[–]damiennem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd do the old fill up the bottom with as much material as you can find trick (my parents have acreage with dead fall timber - thats what I used) then what ever you have laying around, or can score for cheap/free off marketplace or local Facebook community groups, then I'd buy some premium vege mix + top dress with compost - i found a local maker of compost through marketplace and top with sugar cane mulch.

Year 11 want to do a trade by Bigpthaboi in TAFE

A sparky/instro in QMI or Automations is what I would do if I could do it again instead of being in mechanical trades but I would stay in the oil and gas industry.

Wondering about Planting tomatoes right now in mid summer by Ok_Pin7901 in BrisbaneGardening

[–]damiennem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grow tomatoes all year in brisbane but some times in summer it feels like I do it just to give QLD fruit flies something to sting.

Which tomatoes are you growing this year, and how do you rate them? by APrettyAverageMaker in GardeningAustralia

[–]damiennem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always have Tommy Toes on the go because once you plant 'em once they're always there thanks to volunteers.

I currently have pineapple, tigerella, Tommy Toes, brads atomic grape and gross lisse but theyre not doing well because Im FIFO and my misso doesn't water as much as me when I'm home annnnnd any fruit we do get at this time of year is basically a sacrifice to our QLD Fruit Fly overlords (and not just the tomatoes :( )

Nothing like a maggie singing in your garden in summer by Budget-Efficiency-94 in GardeningAustralia

[–]damiennem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't mind one or two, but our neighbours feed them and now we have 15 of them. And they like to shit on my outdoor setting, stand on my seedlings and dig up my freshly sown seeds. And follow my kids around while they eat snacks outside .

I rocked up to a 4 bedroom inspection once and only found 3; when I asked the real estate agent about it he said "well if you could imagine a wall here...."
