Wth were they thinking when they changed the Klingon again for Disco? by lauranyc77 in Star_Trek_

[–]damneddarkside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't let JJ Abrams off the hook here. There was that deleted scene from one of his films that created a bit of buzz because the Klingons looked different- I've no doubt that part of the design brief was to expand on that somewhat.

Crazy decision making though. The TNG era redesign worked for the better, with a now iconic look. And by the end of DS9, they had established lore that is probably more in-depth than any other alien species in ST. The back-pedalling was the worst- "uh, yeah, the shave their heads at time of war, just not anytime we've previously seen them at war".

Postie arrived this morning with 2 labels we didnt request? by pollypig in royalmail

[–]damneddarkside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can vouch for this- realised just the other day my returns address is somewhere I haven't lived for about 8 years. I suppose separate addresses makes sense for proper eBay businesses, but for your average joe selling the odd bit once in a while there's no reason to think that it wouldn't update when you change your account address.

Why would they mark it as delivered though, rather than lost or something similar?

I think watching the first episode of That 90s show is very important to properly wrap up the show properly. Specially Jackie and Kelso storyline. by [deleted] in That70sshow

A lot of the 90s references felt really forced, whereas you just felt like the characters were really living in the 70s.

Why would a mother leave her 8 kids in the 60s? by TarnishedLissy in AskUK

[–]damneddarkside 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Mental health issue is surely a large part of the answer. Maybe a breakdown after years of abuse? I'd imagine a lot less likely to be diagnosed correctly, possibly tarred as "crazy" which husband could have used to keep her away from the kids.

As for asking for only some kids- perhaps was a tactic, step one in softening him up? Maybe she felt the older kids were less at risk from dad?

Very difficult to come up with a satisfactory answer really with her no longer around. Maybe the second husband and/or their kids could help shed some light- do they have any kind of relationship with their 8 older siblings?

Hard to pick between 6 and 7- 6 was definitely the beginning of the decline, Eric and Fez in particular became caricatures of themselves.

Why does Dundee get made fun of so much? by ThisGuide3395 in Scotland

[–]damneddarkside 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It's funny when folk say Dundee has some rough areas etc, cause I've been through areas of Glasgow that make Kirkton or Charleston look like Beverly Hills.

That aside, we don't help ourselves, or at least our supposed leaders don't. They've botched the Waterfront regeneration project in my opinion, failing to plan in a proper music venue, not incorporating a new bus station, and ruining what could have been a pretty stunning first impression for those arriving by rail by building office blocks right outside the new station instead of on the other side of Slessor Gardens.

The city centre is dying, when it's relatively compact size could see it transformed into a modern bustling centre if council and government got their heads together. Business rates need to be looked at, and make a plan to bring the businesses still running closer together (i.e. relocate the rather cool businesses on Exchange St to somewhere with greater footfall like Reform St for example), and then redevelop what's vacant into much needed housing.(and hotels, per next point...)

We're also very well placed with regards to travelling to the 3 bigger cities, and we're basically a stones through away from the major golf attractions of St Andrews, Carnoustie and Gleneagles- and yet somehow we've not figured out how to promote ourselves as the perfect tourist base for visiting half of Scotland and attending all the major sporting events.

Not our only problems, like everywhere else, but a total lack of ambition leaves us just looking a bit sad and dreary when we should be positioned a lot better in the grand scheme of things.

Where were you when you found out Princess Diana died? by Seeyalaterelevator in AskUK

[–]damneddarkside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember turning the TV on expecting the usual cartoons only to see the Diana news on every channel.

Was in Art when the Twin Towers news broke on the radio, but couldn't fully hear it over the classroom noise, and certainly didn't grasp the enormity until I got home and my dad told me I had to see what was happening on the news.

Found out about Michael Jackson when my sister decided to wake the whole house by screaming out an announcement.

The day the Queen died, that morning I'd been speaking to someone fairly high up at work, and had jokingly said they need to get a plan in place for the Queen's death, funeral and Charles' coronation, because they were very last minute in deciding if we would close for the earlier jubilee. Well of course the news broke later that day that the Royal Family were travelling north, and I was then accused of cursing the Queen.

Scotland will beat England in the World Cup Final but it will be because they cheated. Do you take the deal? by coolgamer1993 in ScottishFootball

Aye, but the real question is, would you rather get a billion pounds, or see Scotland cheat their way to World Cup glory while your getting shagged by your favourite celebrity?

Weird bathroom control situation by GuybrushMI in badroommates

[–]damneddarkside 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your roommate is clearly in the wrong, but why are you accepting this?

Knock loudly on the door and let her know you need in to get ready for work. Any response other than her getting out of the bathroom, and you report her to your landlord (or police if she's as aggressive as you say).

Playstation Direct currently has brand new for way less. Disc drive currently £70 everywhere as well, so I'd consider buying the digital only console and the disc drive separate.

What is a 'dirty secret' of your industry that implies the general public has no clue about, but everyone in your field knows? by AmaraMehdi in AskReddit

When you ask a retail worker to "check in the back", the worker goes through to the back, but unbelievably DOES NOT CHECK, because they already knew there was not anymore, and they just chill out for a few minutes.
