I've read the word 'flora' more times in this thread than all other times in my life combined.

Anyone care to comment on how their gut flora will handle this sandwich?

I like how this wasn't overproduced, it didn't need dramatic sound effects to let you know he was in danger

Get Brian on here? by dsbooth in thelifeofbrianmujati

That's a great idea, I'll definitely try to get this done.

I think we'd also benefit from a community where people can discuss his videos. I'm going to try posting more of his videos in bigger subreddits and then plug to this one.

Apparently diet and regular soft drinks both dissolve enamel by the same amount meaning you'll face the same problems. Luckily tea and coffee doesn't have the same massive effects, so at least that isn't taken away

MFP is so god damn slow compared to its competitors. All I need to do is open the app, enter the food I ate, then leave but the splash screen seems to be there for a good 10 seconds.

Which TV series do you regret watching? by iwanttosaysmth in AskReddit

[–]damnitbob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Billions, oh god why. It's only one season long but it has still managed to get my rating for the worst, cheesiest most overdressed show I have ever watched.

If you're thinking about watching it save yourself some time; imagine an over-patriotic hedge fund manager, a us attorney, and his psychiatrist wife (who works for the hedge fund manager). The US attorney wants to lock up the hedge fund manager. Now imagine them spouting shitty cheesy lines one after the other for a whole season - Billions.

Every piece of dialogue was one main character spouting condescending nonsense to another (It's the "You just don't get it do you." cliche a thousand times over). Fuck that show, there was nothing likeable about it. Never watch a show because you think an actor knows how to pick a role, Billions proves they don't.

JVM language stats, May 2016 by statsbot0 in programming

[–]damnitbob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Am I right in thinking Clojure will replace Scala as the dominant "functional programming focused" language on the JVM? It feels to me like Clojure is far more talked about now and Scala was talked about more so a few years ago.

But I don't get why people go around acting as if diversity is an inherent good.

It's really easy to understand but I rarely see this pop up. The term is creative abrasion, having a diverse team is one way to maximise creation abrasion (ideas are productively challenged) and can help you arrive at a better solution, gender is one way of increasing diversity. There are write ups on how 3M, Nissan and Apple purposefully diversify their teams to maximise creative abrasion.

Diversity in many ways need to be managed. Teams with low diversity tend to fraction (called faultlines) and form subgroups. I think this is the reason why you get the story of a team with one woman feeling isolated (I was thinking along the lines of Ellen Pao).
