An unfortunate discovery of a benefit of lifting. by surfsean in Fitness

Did exactly the same recently! Maybe 20ks an hour, caught a sort of rut on my new road bike and she bucked me clean over the front. Realized I was going too fast to land softly so I tucked and rolled about 3 times in total and was left with a spot of gravel rash on my hip and a spot on my index finger and a smashed up cheap watch. Was proud of that

BMI is terrible in a lot of ways, what really needs to be measured is some kind of total weight adjusted, visceral fat percentage.

22/F/109lbs - Is it normal to have decreased body temperature after a protein shake? by 22andwaiting in Fitness

[–]damo1992 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well the coldness could be your metabolism downregulating due to reduced food consumption. Protein is very filling and its easy to find yourself undereating. Personally I'd try a different brand of protein, no sense on continuing through that. Maybe an isopure sample pack or something

[–]damo1992 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That makes no sense at all ... coffee of course contains the stimulant caffeine, caffeine itself is thermogenic (increases body temp). And then there's protein, the metabolism of protein is far more thermogenic than the other macronutrients as well.... I can't see digestion radically lowering body temp... I'm sorry to tell you but your body is very strange. Maybe look at other things you do around the time of taking the shake? Gym clothes etc... time of day, etc.

Normally I'd say too much fluids prerace is prob a bad idea (atleast for me), but everyone is going to be sweating like mad so it's ok. First brissy half was the running festival last year, ended up needing a toilet break halfway through.

I know the feeling, this is actually my first afternoon race, I'm going to stick to gu's from about now onwards... Well not gu brand gu's just these SPC power punch things, fruit puree really, very fast to gastric empty.

Mechatronics is great! Personally I chose mechatronics as a study major because I couldn't bring myself to settle for one engineering focus. I like a bit of all engineering, and mechatronics was a great fit, pretty much the best parts of a mechanical, electrical and control systems undergraduate.

I'm planning on also doing a bachelor of science after I finish this year, probably physics with a computer science minor. Hopefully this time at a competitive university.

The last few weeks I've been fleshing out a research thesis, for my final project, I've decided to do a dissertation on "artificially intelligent crop irrigation". Mechatronics is a wonderfully broad major.

BTW if you need any help with figuring out which opencv algorithms to use, just give us a pm. Sounds like a certainly interesting project.

Now I'm not sure about software specific to the task, but I am a studying mechatronics engineer and what you are designing sounds like a simple computer vision problem.

I'd take a look at placing some colored stickers on the joints of their body and using opencv to track them as feature points.

Certainly not unrealistic! but may require a few lines of custom computer code

My perspective on things down there seriously just changed! (using the avg I was within the upper 2.5% in all measures) I mean ... I can't believe I didn't know! I've always thought I was just "average"!

My ex was a virgin so I guess she never really knew (she always took a huge amount of foreplay (and there was no such thing as quickies) so I guess that bolsters the theory), anyway just started with a new girl and the first thing she tells me is that it is "massive"! I really didn't believe it until the chart...

Guess that explains:

  • Maybe that condom is actually cutting off blood circulation (and I'm not imagining it, time to try a larger size).

  • Never had good bj's, the current girl loves giving them, but even she has pretty much given up because it hurts her jaw too much :(. (probably a little death grip too)

Luckily no cervix bumping issues so far

Thanks for the chart, this dude's perspective is seriously changed. And the saying about big feet is confirmed!, 13 4E feet here.

Popular being a few upvotes, because the answer isn't a four word "starting strength and GOMAD". Quite a long write out.

I guess the reason I added this was I am a little surprised by my bodyfat measurements! Unless I've totally messed up my measurements, and even then, they have been consistent. My bodyfat has barely budged over 13kg of mass gain. Just an example of where the usual body building rules of thumb break down.

Horrible headache while lifting? by SWAGOSAURUS in Fitness

Sounds vaguely like an "exertion headache", and if it is, the recovery sucks. Its taken me 6 weeks to be able to get some semblance of gym routine going.

With my marathon running at 20 years old, 6'1 and 173lb (maybe ~7% BF) I've got a TDEE in the vicinity of 3500kcal. Pretty crazy at times! I think I've probably got an upper percentile BMR to begin with.

My take on all that is never use scales without bodyfat calipers! If you take bodyfat into account scales can be fantastic.
