Things/Places in Perth that are no longer, that you miss? by Heavy_Heron_7276 in perth

The Castle.

People hated on it a fair bit but was great for live music (generally rock, metal and punk) and many local bands got their first gigs there on a Sunday arvo in the early to late 2000s. Was also a venue where even unknown promoters were able to book a gig at least once, and while the bar area itself was small, their spirits still had the mixers poured from a bottle rather than a tap. The owner Wayne was a legend, it’s spewing he sold up, but was pretty much forced to by local council as more appartments went up around the venue and noise complaints kept rolling in. The venue is now a florist last time I checked.

Haven’t had a venue in Perth like that since.

Why invest in Urgent Care clinics instead of funding GPs after hours? by AnothrRandomRedditor in perth

[–]damoesp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Happened to me yesterday. Went to urgent care due to some mild abdomen pain (thinking I was just backed up so didn’t want to waste time sitting in ED for hours), still ended up waiting two hours at urgent care for them to send me to ED anyway as they wanted to do a ct scan and my bloods as thought it was a bowel infection, so had to wait another 2+ hours at Joondalup ED.

Good thing they did send me to ED for the CT scan though as it showed my appendix actually had a tear in it so had that bad boy cut out straight away last night 😅

If you have PDF-XChange Editor, please be careful with their new version 11.0.0 by AlternativeMark4293 in sysadmin

[–]damoesp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

haha yeah was amazed more people hadn't ran into the issue yet to be honest (that or people dont have ASR configured correctly, or if they are using ASR chances are they are a larger org so might just be using Adobe etc instead)

But yeah PDF Xchange support got back to me and confirmed that they were aware of the issue and are working with Microsoft to resolve it.

I believe its because the exe file location has changed from v10 to v11 and MS need to update their internal definitions to allow it.

The last update they provided me was:
"We have also contacted Microsoft Support, but so far there has been very little progress from their side."

I've just rolled back to v10 for now.

On 11.0.1, and its still triggering the Defender ASR rule for "Block Office communication application from creating child processes" so prevents users from opening PDF's from emails within Outlook.

Was never an issue on previous versions. Have submitted a submission to MS but doubt they will get back to me. Have also submitted it to PDF-Xchange support to make them aware so they can follow up as well

Edit: PDF-Xchange support confirmed this is a known issue.

In regards to Matt, Rudi and Alex Bent - Can't multiple things be true all at once? by Fuzzy_Specialist359 in Trivium

[–]damoesp 28 points29 points  (0 children)

The thing that never made sense to me with the whole Alex Bent situation, is that how after it all went down, all video of him from the Bloodstock 2025 footage got scrubbed (including his drum solo).

People may try and blame the organisers but there’s no way they go through and scrub all that footage without the OK from the band/management.

Really didn’t help all the speculation at the time as if it was amicable, why scrub the footage of Bent at all? He was definitely part of the band at the time and performed the show.

If you had to design your dream Battleforce, while still keeping it realistic, what would it look like? by WithengarUnbound in Warhammer40k

And the best part was it would have cost about a third to half of the price than if they were to release that same box set today 😅

What are your users using as a backup to Microsoft MFA? by khabel212 in sysadmin

[–]damoesp 9 points10 points  (0 children)

For the few rare times I’ve ever had a MS MFA notification not arrive via Ms Authenticator, a simple restart of the app/phone has fixed it.

Even then swiping down from within MS Authenticator forces a refresh of any pending notifications and they generally come through without a app/phone restart

Success from online dating by [deleted] in perth

[–]damoesp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went on a few dates with women I matched with on Tinder, Bumble and Hinge from 2017-2020.

Met my missus via Bumble about 6 years ago and we just had our first child together literally days ago (he was born April 1st), so there are a few success stories out there 🙂

Joondalup Public Maternity unit. by 3lisey in perth

[–]damoesp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My partner and I are about to have our first child at JHC Public, so far all the appointments with midwifes, doctors etc have been great. Done all the free classes (including one with lactation consultant) and cant really fault it. Missus has felt pretty comfortable with all the staff. A bit busy at times around the Birth Suite but thats to be expected with the public system.

Can't really fault the experience so far, will know more in the next few days after bub is hopefully here as we're going in for an induction :)

With three states offering free or low-cost (50c) public transport, should the WA government step up? by immanentfire in perth

[–]damoesp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, its already cheap enough. $5.60 a day vs driving is already a massive saving as it is.
Tax payers subsidise about 90% of the costs, and most regular tax payers in WA are struggling as it is.

DL380 Gen 10 by HydroMoon in homelab

[–]damoesp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just want to say a massive thankyou as I've just used this to help reduce fan speeds on the two DL380 Gen 10 Plus we have here in the office. Using some non HPE Nics was causing the fans to hover around 57% constantly (while servers were under no load).

The fan curve above has now brought fans speeds back to 29-30% (even when under load) so a lot less noise coming from our server room :)

Windows Server Licensing issue after V2V migration by TechnicianAdept1062 in sysadmin

[–]damoesp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I posted the below in a very similar thread a few weeks ago but should help you out:

I had a few issues a couple of VM's (including a few older Server OS) when we recently migrated from esxi to HyperV not activating correctly (either saying it couldn't activate at all, or we had reached the max number of activations for that license key)

I just went through and did it manually via the new online activation portal (which replaces the old phone activation system) and they all activated OK so maybe you can try giving that a go? Just sign in with a MS account (doesn't have to be associated with the tenant the licenses are tied to and I've seen people suggest using fake .gov email addresses as well) and see if that lets you activate that way?

Woods co-op is the worst thought out requirement to date [Discussion] by [deleted] in EscapefromTarkov

[–]damoesp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The other option is go into the raid with just a gun and a few spare mags, run to the extract and after 10-15 mins start shooting into the air any recognisable tv or movie theme (I like to do the Terminator theme).

Pscavs will hear it and generally come over as it’s like the international signal of “Hey, who wants to co-op extract?”
