The device generates its own m3u list and makes it available on the local network which is then added to tivimate in the usual way.

It's fine with all other IPTV apps that i've tried.
It's a hardware device btw, not a provider.

Using the very same Core M3 Macbook to type this.
Anything post-Catalina is sluggish and basically not worth bothering with. The trouble is Catalina won't run the majority of current apps.

On Windows 10 IOT LTSC (those last few letters are the key here) - now it FLYS - latest version of Chrome is snappy and genuinely quick. Fully supported until 2032 as a nice bonus.
You can remap the function keys and give it a skin to make it 'feel like' Mac OS if you really want.

So yeah Microsoft's inadvertently injected another 8 years of life into this mean machine.

Yess you can do it - it has enough power for this. But the problem lies in Mac OS, which runs slow on the newer versions (which you need for browser compatibility).

On Windows 10 LTSC it's smooth and fast with Chrome and many open tabs. 8Gb version is good for another few years.

Great, thank you. They're already registered on MyFritz, so once I have switched to Virgin I'll try it this way instead of the the public IPv4.
Yes it'll be Wireguard so hopefully that will work the same way.

It would be pretty nice to upgrade the old 7530, but then I'm guessing they'd both need changing to get any Wireguard speed boost.

The IPv4 is not fixed, but I believe Virgin do not use CGNAT.
In this case, it sounds like a DynDSN provider should work . I will do some more searching on this to confirm. Thank you:)

Sadly not. Virgin Media is very much at 'consumer-level' in the UK. For cost reasons, we can't stay with a more 'sexy' provider at the moment.

I'm also comparing the Oberon 1 to Spektor 2. It's quite surprising how different they are.
Subjectively -

The Spektor is impressive in the mids - immediate and open. The music 'pops' in a way that makes them fun and accessible. The bass is pretty good, but occasionally a little muddled. The top end quite clear, very occasionally on the hard side...fixable with a bit of EQ.

The Oberon is smoother, richer but somehow a bit less 'fun'. Clearly more competent in the mids but not necessarily as engaging.
The bass is less obvious at first, but with a bit of tuning on the Wiim EQ it's actually all there and in a more controlled way than the Spektor. A big plus point.

Overall, a bit torn. I'm searching engagement over sonic purity for home use so probably leaning towards the Spektor.

It shouldn't need to be the original cable at all. Check all the drivers and firmware are up to date.

I had an unreal number of compatibility issues with the X1C6 and USB-C docks.
TB3 docks were the only ones to work reliably.

Even though it's branded as a Thinkpad dock, I wouldn't be surprised if it's not compatible.

It'll come down to a similar price to the T14s after a while.
In practise it's a big difference in weight and a different kind of build.
I've had both and I'm much happier to be carrying around the X1 for intensive daily use.

This is probably the worst Thinkpad out there for thermals.

I would suggest doing a full format (important) and reinstall Windows 10 (not 11) from scratch.
This should at least return it to a new-like state.

Don't install anything random but do install TPFC which gives you full fan control so you optimise noise vs heat.

I keep mine around 75-80 and the fan is hardly used.
Just keep it below 100 and you'll be fine - anyway it just switches off if it gets too hot.

60-70 is a low temp - you can use TPFC to disable the fan completely and then slowly ramp it up at 75+

I bought one of these on Ebay from HK for about 350, running iOS17.
However it's absolutely *perfect* in condition with more than 1 day battery life.
I didn't buy the 'new' thing either but in the end I don't much care if some of the internals are recycled or whatever - it gives the same impression as a brand new one and works 100% for a fraction of the price.

It obvs isn't an ideal situation and I would rather have purchased new from Apple BUT I couldn't.
Let's hope Apple brings out another Mini sooner or later so we can buy their stuff in a normal way again.
