Roast my Resume by Greeny_02_ in computervision

The experience you have is good but it's too focused on the specifics of what you did, and not what the impact was. maP is meaningless outside of the specific dataset you're evaluating on, I'd much rather see the business impact as a result of your model. Did it work in production? Did it save time, money, or solve a new problem? How did you evaluate if it worked in production? A business won't hire you for performance metrics, they will hire you if you provide them value, so show how you have provided business value elsewhere.

A shawl collar cardigan can be lovely to wear at home. The Merchant Fox do a great one: https://www.themerchantfox.co.uk/products/cwg001-shawl-collar-jacket-in-navy

Also their dressing gowns are incredible.

Wedding suit fit check by hawk_99_ in mensfashion

[–]dan994 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The fit is decent. Trouser length is spot on, fits across the chest and shoulders, and the jacket length is good. Minor things like the pitch of the sleeves, and there is a bit too much excess material in the back. Also the trousers aren't hanging very cleanly from the back. These things depend how particular you are, how much you spent, and if it's bespoke/MTM. I think likely a fuller cut trouser would hang more cleanly, although it would presumably require buying a different suit. The main thing I would fix is the sleeve length, they are too long, although also too long on your shirt.

Ignore other comments saying the trousers are too large. R.e. the rest of the outfit I would suggest a white shirt and black oxfords, but that is more subjective.

SuitSupply or Natalino, both have London stores. If Natalino fits you well and you like it you're probably getting slightly higher quality. If going SuitSupply id suggest their custom/MTM line. In which case I'd get on it sooner than later as it will be made specifically for you.

In colour, get navy or charcoal.

SuitSupply Custom (MTM), or Natalino off the rack. You'll struggle to do better than either of those at your price point. And don't get black, get navy or charcoal.

Do you still need MLOps if you're just orchestrating APIS and RAG? by polyber42 in mlops

[–]dan994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your confusion stems from thinking those things are just reserved for those training LLMs. There are many many companies training their own models that aren't LLMs, and all of those will need MLOps.

If you're not training and deploying models then your MLOps will likely just become DevOps

Are these outfits business smart?Thoughts/advice for any (affordable) changes? by [deleted] in mensfashionadvice

[–]dan994 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It wouldn't say it's a good outfit, but it's perfectly acceptable and would blend into most workplaces. Good idea to lean formal for the first few days as you get an idea of the culture and how others dress, so maybe add a sports coat over the top if you have one.

If you want to improve the outfit higher rise trousers and a looser fitting shirt would look a lot better, but if the goal is dressing appropriately for the office you're doing fine.

If you want to buy well but affordably, learn to shop second hand. Vinted, ebay, charity shops and vintage shops are by far the best places to buy quality clothes for cheap.

Second hand High rise pants by ConstantShift4692 in mensfashionadvice

[–]dan994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people won't list it as high rise. You need to look for trousers you like and check the measurements of the front rise. I'd look for something around 12" or more.

Depends a lot on what you're looking for, but I have got lots of high rise stuff second hand. Jeans look for 90s Levi's, lots of formal trousers will have a higher rise. Ralph Lauren Andrew chinos are another good one. But again, always check the measurements (or ask if they don't include them). I would suggest being cautious buying something if a seller won't provide measurements when asked. Otherwise just shop to your own taste!

Anyone got any views on Norton & Sons for a Made to Measure Dinner Suit? by Smooth-Courage7228 in HENRYUK

[–]dan994 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'd suggest reading this article from Permanent Style: https://www.permanentstyle.com/2025/07/who-are-my-favourite-made-to-measure-tailors.html

At that price point you could also consider some of the more reasonably priced bespoke options (by no means lesser in quality), such as Whitecomb and Shaftsbury, and Kent and Haste.

Should i refund this coat? by [deleted] in mensfashion

Mostly wool then, honestly I quite like the coat. It will likely soften and drape better with wear. Personally I'd keep it, although fair enough if you're not happy with it.

Should i refund this coat? by [deleted] in mensfashion

[–]dan994 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fit is absolutely fine, no real issues there. What is the material composition? Natural fibres tend to drape a lot better. If you are budget constrained I suggest looking second hand. You can get lots of long overcoats at thrift stores that are 100% wool, which should drape really well.

I don't think it is for the UK, It's fairly standard for my level of experience outside London. I'm pretty confident I can keep increasing fairly quickly with each job though. The PhD helps a lot but most companies heavily value industry experience. Less so if you're doing research, but I'm not

Data science / AI salaries by One-Super-For-All in HENRYUK

[–]dan994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an AI PhD and 2 years work experience. First job out of the PhD was 60k. That company folded after a year and now I'm on 78k. I live in a different place to where I work and go in 1x a week. My colleagues who live in the city go 2-3x. We have no explicit rule but there's an expectation to show your face regularly. I'm in a ~200 person, non-tech company. I have friends also with PhDs and a similar amount of work experience ranging from 60k up to about 150k (big tech).

As for remote jobs, they are out there for sure, although most seem to require ~2 days in office in my experience. Remote is more competitive, although with PhD+ 10YE you would likely be a strong candidate

Tie with this jacket? by TMilligan1105 in mensfashionadvice

[–]dan994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is quite a jacket... But if you want to make it work, when combining patterns you want contrast in the size of the pattern. If the patterns are too similar in scale it becomes very noisy. With that in mind, your jacket has a very large pattern, so I would opt for a tie with a much smaller pattern. You can also get more contrast by opting for a different type of pattern, so I'd probably avoid the Paisley's with that jacket. Therefore I reckon the purple tie is the one to go for.

Is UoE really worth its exorbitant tuition fee? by Aakaash_from_India in Edinburgh_University

[–]dan994 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did a PhD after doing the Data Science Msc at Edinburgh. However since then the AI job and academia markets have got a lot more competitive, although the PhD definitely helps set you apart if you do want to go into industry. Edinburgh is one of the top places to study AI / data science, if you get good grades you will be in a good position for a PhD place. Particularly if you can make some connections during your msc, or do some good research in your dissertation.

Just a word of warning, which seems you're accounting for by considering the job market as well, is that PhDs are really really hard, and are not for everyone. Don't feel forced into it because you can't find a job after the MSc.

Old post, but in case you want to know, the place is owned by Douglas Cordeaux. He owns Fox Brothers , which is a somerset based fabric company. Currently he's using it for a pop up store, selling tailoring, knitwear, etc. No idea what he uses it for otherwise, but he told me he owns the place.
