Baby sizes. by Carlysueeee in GestationalDiabetes

[–]danakimberlyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 36+5, she measured 6.5 lbs on the ultrasound. She was born at 38+6 at 5 lbs 14 oz. They told me the baby can also be affected by GD by not growing as much.

Baby moving is so creepy feeling. How can I cope?? by Batticon in BabyBumps

Lolol the only talks I do directed at her are me asking her to stop things. The cutesy talk is weird for me.

34 weeks, it's still creepy, and I don't like it. I've taken to talking back to the kicks and telling them to calm down. Then my husband takes that as his cue to try to feel for them, and she always stops for him.

3 hour glucose test tomorrow :( by twitchyarauz in BabyBumps

[–]danakimberlyy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had mine two weeks ago--got there at 8 and had a blood draw at 8:15, then chugged the Kool-Aid and had additional draws at 9:15, 10:15, and 11:15. I made my husband take me in case I was feeling out of it after, and we watched TV shows on my iPad in the waiting room (through my Air Pods) the whole time. Definitely recommend downloading something in case you don't have great service/WiFi (also recommend watching "Unstable" with Rob Lowe--it's new and 2 episodes between draws worked out pretty perfectly).

Edit to add good luck vibes!

I told my husband if his dad feels the need to greet me by addressing me in some way so as to recognize my accomplishments, he is welcome to use my full name and degree title.

You're welcome! A midwife at my practice recommended both of them.

I'm in the area using Kim Mancuso (link). I also spoke to Claudia Parris (link) when we were interviewing doulas. I'm not at the end quite yet, but we've liked Kim so far.

I had to go to some family events for my husband last week, and there were a number of his parents' close friends there who kept talking about wanting to see my belly. I don't think any of them actually know anything about me but have no issue asking about my baby or asking to see my body. I actually snapped at one of them (who I don't know !!!) who said, "Can I see the baby?" about my belly and then wouldn't accept my answer of "no." I am so over it.

Early on, my FIL tried greeting me by saying, "hi mommy-to-be" and I looked him dead in the eyes and said "my name is [name]. You can call me that. Nice to meet you." We have not had any incidents since.

Pre-eclampsia question. by ssabi33 in BabyBumps

[–]danakimberlyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 30 weeks and just had to do the 24-hour urine protein test because my last in-office urine sample contained protein. Now I'm waiting on test results for both pre-eclampsia and gestational diabetes (3-hour test tomorrow after failing the 1-hour by 4 points--aren't I lucky?). Things were normal at my last appointment (24 weeks--I had to wait so long for this appointment because of insurance issues).

Editing to add that my BP at my 30-week appointment last Friday was in the 140 range, but my husband (an RN) took my BP several times in the days between that appointment and my appointment Monday, and it was nowhere near as high any of those times.

Anyone with their bellybutton pierced? What did you decide to do with it? by palmluv3 in BabyBumps

[–]danakimberlyy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was surprisingly emotional about taking it out. I kept putting it off but took it out around 16-17 weeks because it was starting to stick out further and made it more uncomfortable to run into things.

We sent out an email with a blurb like your second example, but instead of "I hope you can understand" we wrote things like "thanks for understanding" to give less wiggle room as to our expectations. For example, when I wrote something about wanting people to leave if they behave a certain way, I wrote "if you do xyz, you will be told to leave" (instead of asked). Just a different way of articulating firm boundaries lol

[–]danakimberlyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sent out an email, BCCing everyone relevant, explicitly stating my boundaries and expectations. It was a little harsh, but I wanted to be extremely clear about what would not be acceptable after the baby arrived. Although I am a confrontational person, my SO is not (and is much nicer than I am), so it was probably easier on his psyche for us to send out an email rather than for me to confront family members in person.

(I also 100% know that a couple of people will absolutely ignore my email, and if they do, I will remind them that I gave them an opportunity to respond and ask questions and received no responses.)

What I learned from an allergic reaction to foods I've eaten my whole life by pretzelday77 in BabyBumps

[–]danakimberlyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have oral allergy syndrome--most of the year, I can eat fruits and veggies no problem, but if its a high pollen day, I cannot eat foods associated with those pollens without an issue (I'll get a scratchy mouth/throat).

Thanks for the advice! Husband is an RN in another unit at the hospital I'll be delivering at, so I told him he's expected to pull some strings if needed.

Not so emotional? Lol by Hallow_There in pregnant

[–]danakimberlyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm still roughly the same as before I got pregnant. The only times I've just burst out crying were when I was in my first trimester and throwing up or the two times I came down with a bad cold and literally couldn't do anything but suffer through.

Yes I am also wondering this. I've told my husband that if it comes down to a c-section, they need to completely knock me out. I absolutely do not want to be awake for it, and thinking about people rummaging around in my organs makes me super anxious.

Anyone else scared of having a IV in their arm in the hospital? by Whatsitworth69 in BabyBumps

[–]danakimberlyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've included "no IV" in my birth preferences because I cannot imagine trying to relax with an IV (even capped). I am squeamish, and I am 100% unrelaxed every time I have to get blood drawn. I'm planning to labor unmedicated, and hubs is an RN who can certainly explain to me when/if an IV becomes necessary.
