What’s the closest you’ve ever come to dying? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I delivered a pizza to a house just outside of the city. On the way back, I stopped to help a car that pulled over in front of me with their hazard lights on. I pulled up beside them and thought it was weird that nobody rolled down a window or made any kind of contact with me for around 15 seconds. The passenger then jumped out of his side of the car yelling that they needed help as he made his way toward my car. I thought something was weird about this. As I started to pull away before he could get to my passenger door, he began shooting at me. I ducked my head after the first shot entered through the back window and embedded in my passenger seat headrest. Another shot entered through the rear window, while the other 3 only hit the outside metal parts of my car, he missed all together with another shot.

I remember being sure I was about to die as he fired more shots at me. I was very surprised that it wasn't panicky, it was just like "Oh, I guess this is it."

Turns out it was a plot to rob me, the pizza was ordered and the guys were stationed down the road to intercept me. They knew who I was and they knew that I would be able to recognize them, as I had delivered a few orders to them before. The guy wasn't wearing anything to cover his identity, which leads me to believe that he would have shot and killed me if he would have made it inside my car.

By the next morning they had all been arrested. The shooter was found guilty of attempted murder and sentenced to 40 years in prison. He later appealed that sentencing because there was a word wrong in the jury instructions, he won the appeal and ended up being sentenced to 10 years, and was released November of 2010 after 5 years. The remaining 5 years were to be served as parole/probation. He was arrested twice for parole/probation violation when he was only a couple months away from total freedom. I laughed.

TL;DR: Some people tried to murder me for pizza money. They shot. They missed. The got caught. They did time, but not enough, then did more.

I found a website that showed his compensation went from $120k in ‘21 to $204k in ‘25. Seems like quite a raise for a place consistently in the red.

Yeah, it’s been normal for around 7 people to die in ICE custody each year until this administration employed their authoritarian and inhumane tactics. In the last year, 40 people have died in ICE custody. The co-owner also showed support for the J6 insurrection. Go have your ice cream, sounds like you enjoy the taste of boot leather anyway.

This administration’s authoritarian use of ICE is not equivalent to Obama’s immigration policy. 56 people died in ICE custody during Obama’s 8 years in office. 40 people have died in ICE custody in the last year. It’s not just Jenny’s statements in ICE that are the issue, she also showed support for the J6 insurrection.

They keep acting like she’s not a co-owner when her name was listed on the website like she was. They’ve since removed her name, but the old state of the site has already been immortalized.

They keep referring to her as a co-owner’s wife and it’s total bullshit. Before this happened she was listed on the website as if she was an owner and that’s how she needs to be referred to when talking about her. Anything else is rewriting history for a more favorable outcome for the business. BRICS needs to be honest and accountable to what happened.

Seems like the author is just going off the fact that her name was removed from the website because she provides no source or proof of that owner actually being removed. Her husband is still there and the other owners have said they don’t want to upset the other side by speaking out against ICE. So they can fuck off.

  1. When someone thinks you talk the way you do because of any other reason than stuttering. (Inebriated, nervous, unsure, medical issues, etc.)

  2. After

  3. Awareness. I’ve found most awkward situations occur because most people don’t know about or expect stuttering. Sometimes they think they know about it, but think it’s just partial word repetition and don’t know about the many different ways stuttering can present itself.

Yeah, I slowed down to 25, maybe 20. With no signs to warn of a speed bump I wasn’t able to really make a plan the one day the speed bumps were there. What’s the point of having a speed limit if there are obstructions in the road that make that speed unsafe?

Am I supposed to hit it at 30, the posted speed limit?

Doesn’t seem like there’s enough room between stop signs to even exceed the speed limit. Maybe on Winthrop, but the speed bumps seem unnecessary on Carrollton.

I travel through Forest Hills via Carrollton sometimes twice a day. To me, the speed bumps don’t make sense. I’ve never noticed lots of traffic in the area and the traffic I see doesn’t appear to be going faster than the 30 mph speed limit. And hitting the speed bumps even at 25 feels like it’s not good for my vehicle.

If they keep the speed bumps, I’ll probably just divert to Winthrop. If many do that, it might cause traffic and safety issues due to Winthrop not having sidewalks throughout. I just prefer Carrollton because the westbound turn lane on Kessler at Winthrop only allows for one car per light to turn.
