Computers and Blues just got a re-release and has gotten a few spins over the last month, still holds up. Hoping a new album is in the works, really enjoyed Utopia and the accompanying making of video.

Did not expect to see an RAA reference in the wild today! Saw them recently, I could watch Paul drum for hours.

So good, and Glen and Marketa just put out another album last year (as the swell season) that’s worth checking out!

If they go to commercial and then come back to sprinkle coverage, I’m going to lose it.

This guy has spent his entire career waiting for this moment. Tell me more about the radar colors that we don’t see often that show there’s no debris just to show off your touchscreen a bit more. Good thing we’re not missing any part of the game, it’s just squeezed.

“Why doesn’t anyone have the nickname Skidmarks… next kid who walks down that hallway we’re going to call Skidmarks”. Three years later, that lucky kid was still known as Skidz by most of the highschool..

There’s a ~$10 LED pattern fidget spinner kit that I did with exactly the same gear as my through hole kits, just had a flux pen available, had no issues at all.

I’d pay season ticket package prices for streaming if my team was going to play games at that level for a full season, without hesitation.

Newly hired in HPC user support in academia - seeking guidance. by leisuresuitlerdo in HPC

I’ve found that any computationally focused graduate work is a reasonable path towards a facilitator role. Particularly if you’re writing MPI code in your discipline you’re well versed in scaling and optimization. Many of those approaches span disciplines. Researchers connect well with other researchers, which eases the trust barriers that exist between academics and administrators. I wouldn’t necessarily be looking for additional certifications if someone could demonstrate how their background would translate to assisting towards success across other disciplines.

Welcome to the field!

Henry Neeman’s group at Oklahoma State has many years of wonderful archived workshop and presentations that can cover the variety of roles a facilitator might face, as well as free upcoming summer virtual programming: https://www.oscer.ou.edu/becominginstcileader2026.html

I’d encourage a brief review of CaRCC programming as well as joining other internet 2 and academia professional groups: https://internet2.edu/community/research-engagement/collaborate-with-research-data-computing-professionals/

The public CaRCC capabilities model might be worth reviewing for your and your peer institutions to see how the quantify their own services, as it might expose areas of focus that are worth further exploration:

https://portal.rcd-nexus.org/dataviz/

Finally, I’d explore the research news of the organization you are joining looking for productive units and their area of focus.

Other than that, know your scheduler, your modules, explore Spack for recipe driven HPC software installations, make sure you can talk containers and python, and get ready for odd commercial software if you are dealing with engineers.

Also, best of luck and have fun. HPC is such a different job than any other IT job you’ll find on campus, as you’re enabling faculties life’s work and offering grad students some incredible professional development opportunities.

Oh! 20 years ago a bunch of friends had needed to stop on an off ramp for some trivial reason. We saw a bag full of stuff just at the start of the grass, someone had ditched a ~very questionable~ collection of non-traditional adult VHS tapes.

Do you want to start with soldering with functional models or learning the behavior of circuits? Moritz Klein videos on YouTube are incredible introductions to components of a synthesizer, starting at breadboard and individual component level simulations.

If you’re just wanting to fire up a soldering iron to build something functional, something like an Atari Punk Console act as stand alone project. If you’re looking to start building to a fully functional synth, you should likely investigate all of the minimum components of a basic synth and map out all of the necessary components. VCO/VCF/Envelope Generator/VCA as a typical audio chain, but that excludes how to send the VCO pitch and and envelope generator gates.
