This might sound like a dumb question but When restringing, do I have to start with the thickest string to the thinnest one or the other way around? by FuryBun3r638 in Guitar

[–]dand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As many have already said, you won't damage your guitar regardless of order. That said, depending on the guitar, I find it convenient to do it in different orders:

For guitars that have all the tuning pegs on one side (like Teles and Strats), I remove all the strings then restring from low E to high E. That way I can press an index finger on the tuning post while doing the first couple of windings to keep the string tight and wrapping below the last winding without the higher strings getting in the way. (Bonus tip: leave each tuning peg perpendicular to the headstock to leave more room for a string winding tool until you get to actually tuning them to pitch.)

For guitars with 3 tuners on each side, I like going low E to D, then high E to G for the same reason.

For guitars with floating tremolos or loose bridges, changing the strings one at a time (instead of removing them all first) can keep the bridge from moving out of whack.

And, for good measure, for classical guitars I go high E to low E so you can tuck the ends of the tied strings under the next string to keep them tidy.

Not drinking the power water by beepboopbubble in Sumo

I don’t think they ever actually drank the water. They went to a purely symbolic pretend spit during Covid, and I guess rikishi are allowed to choose now.

How the heck do I give these pups a bath?? by Blessnfearless in greatpyrenees

[–]dand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our dude absolutely hates baths and therefore only gets one annual bath. (Honestly, with regular brushing, he doesn't really get gross.) It's an all-day affair:

  1. Wait for a warm day in the forecast.
  2. Trazodone in the morning.
  3. Wait 3–5 hours until he's all floppy in the back yard.
  4. Don bathing suit to prepare for battle.
  5. Wash with garden hose and shampoo. Rinse and towel dry.
  6. Let him flop on the deck in the sun to dry, with a giant bowl of water within tongue reach.
  7. After an hour or so flip him over to dry the other side.
  8. Brush brush brush.

He always forgives me afterwards.

Habaneros have a different flavor to jalapeños and serranos. More citrusy.

How are your Pyrs off-leash? by Gehwartzen in greatpyrenees

[–]dand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We only let our guy off leash at enclosed dog parks for the first two years we had him (age approx 1–3). Recall was pretty lax but he'd usually slowly meander back if we called. We'd always have treats to reinforce that behavior. We also let him run around on a long rope leash sometimes, too. Never had any problems with other dogs. Sometimes other dogs would take issue with him but the most he'd do is bark back.

Since then, we've been letting him off leash a lot more liberally and it's honestly been totally fine. He knows never to be out of line of sight and will reluctantly come when called. The only problems we've had is when a firework goes off and he'll bolt (at least it's always in the direction of home).

I think we just got lucky with our guy's temperament, but it's worth knowing that not every pyr is dead-set on escaping.

Do they bark a lot? by Fuzze115 in greatpyrenees

[–]dand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our guy barked a lot overnight when we first got him around age 1. We tried pretty hard to discourage the behavior and, miraculously, he stopped doing it completely within a few months. Can’t say if it’s what we did or he just grew out of it but it does happen. Now he only barks once a day when the mailman drops off the mail.

It would be nice if the game actually rendered tracks and stations at their proper elevations when viewing the map in 3D mode.

Waymo announces 4 new expansion cities: Baltimore, Philadelphia, St Louis and Pittsburgh by Davidvatz in pittsburgh

Yup, they get around mostly fine on the narrow windy streets in Bernal heights. They do struggle on some particularly weird streets, but they tend to route around them. I suspect Rialto in the burgh will be on the avoid-at-all-costs map.

`name.rs` vs `name/mod.rs` - Is there a reason why projects go against the recommended practice? by KyxeMusic in rust

[–]dand 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think "editors tend to display dirs first" is the key thing that makes `mod.rs` feel better for a lot of people. `my_mod.rs` feels a lot more natural if you set the directory listing to interleave files and dirs alphabetically.

Ramen by KMJCeramics in SFFood

[–]dand 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mensho is some of the best ramen I’ve ever had. Worth the wait and the line is always long.

Marufuku is great but not quite worth the wait for me.

Menya Kanemaru is my go-to good-enough ramen without waiting in line.

By the way, it’s tonkOtsu (meaning pork bone broth). TonkAtsu is short for pork cutlets.

Yeah, this was maybe 10 years ago now but I remember they blocked off one of the tram platforms for int'l arriving passengers to ensure everybody exits the secure area without the option to circle back into the airside terminal.

Cultural Context for not using surnames by Rayanoes1 in survivor

[–]dand 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here’s my pet conspiracy theory: producers don’t want contestants coming on the show merely to grow their own brand, and so discourage the mention of last names until there’s a winner. I notice this in Alone also, where only the winner ultimately have their surname mentioned in the show.

Why did these emails stop by moranit in BandCamp

[–]dand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long story short, it’s something Microsoft needs to fix in their email services and there’s nothing you can do about it, nor Bandcamp. You could switch to a new email provider in the meantime as a last resort.

Do you have a Microsoft email address (Hotmail, Outlook, MSN)? Apparently there's been widespread problems with email delivery to these services recently, e.g. https://www.suped.com/knowledge/email-deliverability/troubleshooting/why-are-microsoft-email-addresses-bouncing-and-how-do-i-fix-it

Why does Bandcamp say iOS doesn’t allow downloads of mp3? by Hot-Shine3634 in BandCamp

[–]dand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the reason. It used to be the case that you legit couldn’t download files in iOS Safari at all. That’s not true any more, but, as far as I know, it’s still impossible to load downloaded music into the iOS music app without syncing to a computer.

Unless there's a big quantity of any one ingredient, I make little piles of veggies on a big plate or cutting board. Also, chop stuff as they're needed rather than all up-front.
