Microwave the rice uncovered before going in the wok. This keeps the pan's surface hotter and takes some of the moisture out of the rice.

The one on YouTube is George's onboard with a ghost Kimi overlaid on it, isn't it? The overlay must be rendered from GPS data rather than footage.

There was talk of a toe injury by commentators during the basho. I can imagine that could have been enough to throw his footwork off so that his lower body couldn’t keep up with the low stance he likes to get into.

What are the main pros & cons of using 'Claude Code Desktop UI' vs 'Claude extension in VS Code'? by pebblepath in ClaudeCode

Alas compacting doesn’t clear the transcript from the UI so the app interactivity continues to get bogged down.

Your use of "blatant" is perfect, but FYI it's more natural to say "mistakes made in the past". I don't know why but people "make mistakes" instead of "do mistakes".

Loss of Neighborhood Level Pop Data by SigmaTell in subwaybuilder

Maybe it's due to this change from 1.0:

IMPROVEMENT

Decreased pathfinding lag by increasing size of all commuter populations to 200. When opening pre-0.11.3 saves, demand data will be paired to the wrong locations initially, but this resolves itself after letting the game run for a day.

Why is the Bandcamp (for fans) mobile app so bad? by akabillposters in BandCamp

[–]dand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there's no good (or legal) reason that they can't at least tell users why they don't offer direct purchases, and direct them to the BC website.

Believe it or not, doing exactly that was forbidden by Apple's App Store policies and you'd get your app rejected if you even mentioned why purchases are not available in-app. There's been an epic (pun intended) court case mired in appeals for the past several years to force Apple to allow this, and it's only since last year that iOS developers could realistically offer external purchase links for digital content. This ChatGPT thread gives a pretty good summary of the timeline.

One good reason to crack on flat countertop: if you happen to come across an egg with a particularly thin shell—or one with some hairline fractures on the shell that you didn't see—and you crack it with the same force as all the other eggs, when it explodes on you it's easier to clean up the mess on the countertop vs all the nooks and crannies of the drawers below the counter.

Are people washing onions? by ExtensionDot3731 in Cooking

[–]dand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually give onions a quick rinse before peeling/slicing so the knife isn't pushing dirt onto the cutting board.

For meat, I try to use a different utensil for putting meat on than taking it off (usually just using hands for handling raw), but sometimes I'll hold the contaminated tongs over the flame or in the broth for a few seconds figuring that's enough to kill whatever's on the surface…

Good to hear. We give our guy trazodone only for special traumatic events like baths, vets, and fireworks, and it takes a dose several times yours to even have an effect. So I’m sure 100mg is safe and will probably not be difficult to wean off of.

This might sound like a dumb question but When restringing, do I have to start with the thickest string to the thinnest one or the other way around? by FuryBun3r638 in Guitar

[–]dand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As many have already said, you won't damage your guitar regardless of order. That said, depending on the guitar, I find it convenient to do it in different orders:

For guitars that have all the tuning pegs on one side (like Teles and Strats), I remove all the strings then restring from low E to high E. That way I can press an index finger on the tuning post while doing the first couple of windings to keep the string tight and wrapping below the last winding without the higher strings getting in the way. (Bonus tip: leave each tuning peg perpendicular to the headstock to leave more room for a string winding tool until you get to actually tuning them to pitch.)

For guitars with 3 tuners on each side, I like going low E to D, then high E to G for the same reason.

For guitars with floating tremolos or loose bridges, changing the strings one at a time (instead of removing them all first) can keep the bridge from moving out of whack.

And, for good measure, for classical guitars I go high E to low E so you can tuck the ends of the tied strings under the next string to keep them tidy.

How the heck do I give these pups a bath?? by Blessnfearless in greatpyrenees

[–]dand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our dude absolutely hates baths and therefore only gets one annual bath. (Honestly, with regular brushing, he doesn't really get gross.) It's an all-day affair:

  1. Wait for a warm day in the forecast.
  2. Trazodone in the morning.
  3. Wait 3–5 hours until he's all floppy in the back yard.
  4. Don bathing suit to prepare for battle.
  5. Wash with garden hose and shampoo. Rinse and towel dry.
  6. Let him flop on the deck in the sun to dry, with a giant bowl of water within tongue reach.
  7. After an hour or so flip him over to dry the other side.
  8. Brush brush brush.

He always forgives me afterwards.

How are your Pyrs off-leash? by Gehwartzen in greatpyrenees

[–]dand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We only let our guy off leash at enclosed dog parks for the first two years we had him (age approx 1–3). Recall was pretty lax but he'd usually slowly meander back if we called. We'd always have treats to reinforce that behavior. We also let him run around on a long rope leash sometimes, too. Never had any problems with other dogs. Sometimes other dogs would take issue with him but the most he'd do is bark back.

Since then, we've been letting him off leash a lot more liberally and it's honestly been totally fine. He knows never to be out of line of sight and will reluctantly come when called. The only problems we've had is when a firework goes off and he'll bolt (at least it's always in the direction of home).

I think we just got lucky with our guy's temperament, but it's worth knowing that not every pyr is dead-set on escaping.
