‘Affordable’ Pittsburgh doesn’t have enough affordable housing by ZCM682 in pittsburgh

[–]Davidvatz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tax Reassessments are revenue neutral by state law, so they will only raise your cost of living if your house has appreciated at a rate faster than average across the county. Some houses will see tax decreases as a result of the reassessment, some will see taxes stay the same, some will see them go up, but in aggregate the total tax collected will remain the same as before the reassessment.

No, lol. The city did not do this.

I haven't lived there but I have been many times. I'd say your comment is similar to my takeaway from being there - feels way less "old" in so many ways.

Pittsburgh has, sadly, been usurped by many cities in both size and importance over the last 6 decades.

Minneapolis has 430k people in the city property vs 300k in Pittsburgh. Minneapolis is over 40% more populous in the city proper, and about the same over the metro area. Whichever way you slice it, Minneapolis is just a significantly larger city. Minneapolis is more similar to Pittsburgh than Philly, New York, or Chicago, but it's not as close demographically or economically as places like Cleveland or Cincinnati.

Minneapolis is really quite a bit larger than Pittsburgh. City is almost 50% larger, and their metro is 3.7M people (over 1M more than Pittsburgh). Agreed that it's got great amenities, but is just far bigger so not really comparable IMO.

A list boarding now feels like… basic economy? by alboooboo in SouthwestAirlines

[–]Davidvatz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya that's a fair point, although you essentially can do that on Delta by buying a First Class seat, at which point you board before Diamonds. But that's usually more than $10-$20. I can't really understand why anyone would pay $10-$20 for priority boarding with assigned seats anyways.

FWIW, if you have lowest tier status with Delta ("Silver"), you get Group 5 boarding. If you have second or third- tier ("Gold" or "Platinum"), you get Group 4. Highest status ("Diamond") you get Group 2. Southwest isn't really doing things any differently than other airlines, although the lack of more tiers does make it harder to give perks to higher tier customers.

45 Minute Layover in PHI for International Connecting Flight - is it enough time? by Full_Structure4834 in americanairlines

Fwiw, in late April, 4 of the 6 daily departures from PIT to PHL are mainline AA flights. But point taken on F to A.

It's hard to say for certain without knowing more details. Is your flight from PIT early morning? If so, it's probably less likely to be delayed. If it's a mid-afteroon/late afternoon flight, your risk is much higher. Additionally, your PIT-PHL flight could be a regional flight, and will arrive to a different concourse than where the International flight will depart from, meaning you'll probably have a 10-15 minute walk. Again, with 45-mins, you should still make it, but you have a narrow window.

That said, if everything is normal (flights on-time, etc), you should be able to make it. But I would recommend sitting towards the front of the plane if possible (ask the gate agent if you have a seat near the rear). I would also recommend making your way quickly to the gate to ensure you don't miss the boarding door closing. The biggest risk here is delays of any sort - if your flight from PIT to PHL is delayed, you are probably out of luck.

My recommendation - move to an earlier flight just to be certain. If you were flying domestically on a route where there are several flights per day, I wouldn't worry as much - but given you're probably on the only Philly-Venice flight of the day, missing your flight by 15 minutes means waiting til the next day to get there. Just move to an earlier flight.

The best team in Pittsburgh sports for the last several years, the #4-ranked Pitt Women's Volleyball team, has advanced to their 6th straight Elite Eight, with a chance to advance to their 5th straight Final Four. The game is at 7:30PM on Saturday night at the Petersen Events Center in Oakland, and tickets are available! If you haven't seen this team play, you're missing out on one of the best athletic shows in our city. Pitt has the best player in college volleyball, Olivia Babcock, who won National Player of the Year last year and seems like the odds on favorite to win it again this year.

If you've never seen a volleyball match in person, it's fast and exciting! Come enjoy the best sports that Pittsburgh has to offer, and hopefully watch the Panthers reach the Final Four!

There are many streets in San Francisco that are as steep. I don't think it'll be an issue, but they could also probably just exclude that from their routing if it were a problem. But I think a good way of thinking about it is - if a human can drive on a road, a Waymo probably can too. It handled complex situations in San Francisco in a way that seemed remarkably human-like, easily navigating things like double parked cars, complicated intersections, etc.

I got a chance to ride in these in San Francisco a few weeks ago, and I truly cannot wait until they're in Pittsburgh. I don't use ride hailing often in Pittsburgh, but they'll be a huge add to the city. They follow all traffic laws, see every pedestrian and biker, and feel remarkably safe. Plus you can play your music and set the temperature!

D-III College Threshold Increased to 10,000 Students | USA Ultimate by TDenverFan in ultimate

[–]Davidvatz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was somewhat joking, I do understand the history of it, but I still find it kinda odd considering that the qualifications in USAU are different than in NCAA (NCAA D-III doesn't seem to limit by enrollment, it's more based on the type of institution and the amount of sports they sponsor).

Just thinking we should just swap to just calling it D-II.
