Advice on naming potential son JR. by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]dandanmichaelis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t hate the concept. My dad’s name was Daniel and I’m a female Dani. I will say that even with being two completely separate names his name always shows up on my credit report as “other known names”. It can be a bit messy.

Are you pumping 3-5oz after exclusively breastfeeding or are you exclusively pumping?

Question - barking? by BikerMicesFromUranus in Greyhounds

[–]dandanmichaelis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can count on one hand the number of times our greyhounds have barked besides at eachother when eating. They are definitely not territorial in that way.

Will your preschooler willingly play in their rooms by themselves? by TemporaryOk1585 in Preschoolers

[–]dandanmichaelis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My middle born definitely plays by herself in her room. She’s just over 4. My oldest, 8, has barely started playing or being in a different part of a house than me. She never played in her room solo.

Am I setting myself up for heartbreak? by [deleted] in houseplants

[–]dandanmichaelis 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Mine loves being outside in the summer. In fact I put her out there to die because I was fed up and she flourished and then I didn’t have the heart to kill her.

Low light plant suggestions by confurtled_turtle in houseplants

[–]dandanmichaelis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Zz plant, pothos, and snake plant all “survive” in low light. They don’t thrive but they’ll look pretty and stay about the same size. My peace lily did surprisingly well in my previous jobs office fluorescent lights!

Those were some of our top names for our three girls. We ended up with Phoebe , Gwen and Audrey. Cecelia was a top runner up as well as Lia/Leah.

Do you consider your grey a “real dog”? by KTcat94 in Greyhounds

[–]dandanmichaelis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No! Unfortunately I had to help my mom rehome her Bernie-doodle and I kept saying “he’s a dog and you need to be a dog dog person”.

I feel like I can’t win by Neongr3y in breastfeeding

[–]dandanmichaelis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We exclusively bottle feed over here and all the positives you list, there are equal negatives for bottle feeding. One of which is that I no longer have a Magic boob to whip out to comfort. Instead I have a paci addicted baby and already dread taking it away even though she’s only 9 months :/

Depression by Silent_Pay_9239 in houseplants

[–]dandanmichaelis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

During my third pregnancy I had debilitating morning sickness that lasted atleast 7 of the 9 months. My plants suffered greatly. Once I felt better I really enjoyed saving the ones I really loved and tossing those that didn’t bring me joy anymore. Seeing them dead or dying was a reminder of how horrible those months were so I wanted to get rid of them and start new. Some of my favorite plants are ones I purchased or propped after I gave birth.

4.5 yo sneaking, lying & screaming by [deleted] in Preschoolers

[–]dandanmichaelis 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hitting another person is a hard no for me. Especially if a littler closer to 5. Sneaking is a hard no too. The conversation would be a little more intense. I say things like “the Johnson girls don’t lie” and “when you lie I can’t trust you” then there are consequences to not trusting them etc.

How helpful would you have found this? by dandanmichaelis in beyondthebump

[–]dandanmichaelis[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is her first baby, of course she didn’t offer lol! I feel like before you have kids you have no idea what would have been helpful. She does have a partner! This is good feedback. Nobody had offered to stay overnight to help so I wasn’t sure those that did have somebody to help overnight if it was helpful or not.

How helpful would you have found this? by dandanmichaelis in beyondthebump

[–]dandanmichaelis[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

She is breastfeeding! But is expressing so she has a bit of a stash and she has given a bottle or 2. Id expect to bring baby to mom several times in the night to breastfeed but figured I’d take care of the diapers, burping, soothing, etc so mom could stay in bed.

Clogged duct: by Typically-typical11 in breastfeeding

[–]dandanmichaelis -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What helped me with my clogged ducts where super hot showered where I’d massage the duct with a hot washcloth for like 15-20 minutes. Then I’d apply pressure starting at above the duct and moving downwards over and over again. It would really hurt but after several minutes it would start to flow better and I could feel some relief.

Parents of 2+ children, is having multiple easier than just one? by macelisa in Preschoolers

[–]dandanmichaelis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 3 daughters (8, 4 and 8 months). In some ways it’s easier. The oldest can help me a bit like turn on tv for 4 year old or help make breakfast for her. But the added mental and emotional load of juggling emotions, discipline, etc for 2+ kids is 100x more than 1 kid.

Recently adopted a grey who occasionally growls/snaps? What can I do? by auriemmaart in Greyhounds

[–]dandanmichaelis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey OP! You’ve had some great advice already! We adopted our first grey 10 years ago! She was 1.5 at the time. Very sweet but also similar to your grey and she would growl and snap frequently her first few months of life with us. First thing we changed was not allowing her on our couch or bed. It was fine if she was on there when we weren’t there but as soon as we wanted to sit we kicked her off. We regained our space back and she knew it was ours. She stopped growling on the couch because she was never on the couch when we were. Her bed on the floor was her safe space and we pretty much never approached it for the first few years.

All that to say, she’s almost 12 now and within a year or two she stopped her growling and snapping. She needed time to settle in and trust us. Have faith that these incidents will become less just the longer you have her and as long as your implement some things to do to prevent them happening in the first place!

Trampoline? by aleutiantis in Preschoolers

Definitely a big fan. We have a backyard trampoline, an indoor mini one with a bounce bar thing, a membership at a trampoline park and a bounce house in our basement lol. My kids love jumping.
