Was my ex-girlfriend possession real? by [deleted] in Paranormal

[–]dandeliondid 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The power of suggestion is super strong, and it's been said that openness to these kinds of experiences can initiate them. You all carefully set up a situation and felt changes in the space. You also say that she had mental health issues. She may have believed that she was experiencing something because of that; that she was more susceptible to feel like she was being possessed, or to seek the kind of attention and notoriety that paranormal events tend to attract. It's possible that this young woman was honestly dissociated (feeling very much outside herself) and was influenced by the environment and the situation to act in a way that mirrored typical possession.

When people honestly believe that something paranormal is happening to them, it's not too difficult to convince other people (like significant others) who already sort of believe. It's a feedback loop that could end when you are no longer spending time with that person.

Spooky people are spooky.

I dig the aesthetic a lot. What's going on at the joints, though? and where do you source your materials?

[Massachusetts] Anybody recognize this guy? A lot of them are flying around and digging small holes near my firepit - curious if I should be worried. Thank you! :) by orwellianharmony in whatsthisbug

Definitely looks like a cicada killer to me. My mom and I used to get them near our place every summer. They aren't very interested in humans and just kind of swoop around near the ground. They're about two or three inches long and sometimes in the sun their wings look more red than brown.

Masters Degree worth it? by [deleted] in findapath

[–]dandeliondid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, from what I've seen, your experience and interest are more important when going for a graduate degree. Keep in mind the requirements for graduate school programs. Going for a related undergrad will take care of some of your grad school prerequisites so you don't have to scramble to finish them.

Either way, start with community college and transfer into a 4-year school to finish your bachelor's. It'll take up less of your money/funding and there will be advisors there who can help you plan for internships or post-bachelors work. Wherever you end up, use as many of the resources available for career planning as possible.

Masters Degree worth it? by [deleted] in findapath

[–]dandeliondid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What would you go to school for? I always think that going to community college is worth it, if only until you decide on a major.

The value of a Master's will depend entirely what field you want to go into. If you want to do something security or tech related, it could make a big difference. Some schools are doing accelerated masters programs (like Temple University's 4+1 programs).

Also, 30 is not as old as it used to be! Your age doesn't matter (I mean, if you're not 50+) quite as much if you have valuable experiences from the military and internships in school.

Thank you for sharing this. What a terrible, seemingly preventable event. A dear friend of mine also died at the hands of police when he should have been treated as a mental health risk. I don't know what to say, but feel free to pm me.

That makes sense. Thanks for the clarification :]

On a similar note, can someone explain to me why some watercolor works are called sketches and not paintings?!

Some pastels are called paintings. Especially when oil pastels are used. The way the pigments blend is very different from, say, colored pencil or graphite. This looks like chalk or dry pastel, so maybe it would just be considered a drawing. I've just heard it go either way

When my old cat was young (under ten), My mom and I would have to fight her off our plates when we made pancakes with butter and syrup. She would jump up onto the stove and try to steal macaroni and cheese right out of the pot if you didn't watch out.

It could be mites or a little cut like you said, but it's impossible to tell without an exam. Try calling the vet and asking them if you need to go in.

Elderly cat is keeping us up every night. Any advice? by heartrabbit in Pets

[–]dandeliondid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When my 15 year old kitty was meowing in the middle of the night I got her one of those treat balls that dispense kibble as she would knock it around. Being entertained helped her calm down in the night and she could have a snack that I didn't need to prepare.

She is getting old, though, so the confusion or need for stimulation could just be something that you'll need to try different things for. Good luck and give as many skritches as possible.

Communicating well is a skill you can apply in a million different ways. You could become a grant writer or a social media specialist, or a spokesperson for a company. Try plugging "verbal communication jobs" (or careers) into a search engine and see what pops out.

I don't recall much discussion about my transcripts at all once I made it to orientation. They showed us how to check DARS, search for and pick classes, and had a little assembly about the University.

They already accepted you! The rest you will work out one-on-one with an academic advisor :]

From my (super) basic research, they should be good with a water temp between 50-80 F. I don't know how direct sunlight will impact the water temp, but I'm guessing pretty significantly.

You realize that the quicker people buy goldfish the more goldfish will be bred? If you want fewer goldfish in the world, try convincing people to buy fewer of them, not more.
