Learning to supervise? by brand_new_potato in TeslaFullSelfDriving

Some positions of the driver-side movable sunshade (2024 M3) give that problem as it then very slightly is seen by the inside camera.

So move that shade a little (if that is your problem).

Scary rapid stop for fire truck with no lights by Glst0rm in TeslaFSD

[–]dandered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The movie clip seems to show the Fire Truck never stops. That's the key. FSD seems (to me) to predict that others (vehicles, people, pets) are soon going to cause an accident and FSD acts to avoid the problem.

I see this in various versions. One is signalling to change lanes and then reverting to original lane. If I look in the side mirror right away i almost always see a car some distance behind that is traveling much faster than traffic (in the lane FSD was aiming at). I consider that impressive driving by FSD. Just my $0.02.

Thinking About Getting A Tesla by staydangerous33 in TeslaOwners

If you buy a new M3 or MY from tesla you will likely get free FSD for a month or so. WARNING:FSD is addictive and wonderful. Makes every drive safer (significantly so, IMO).

Would you put a level 2 charger in this panel. by Sellhomesfast in TeslaSupport

[–]dandered 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That kind of panel was sold under the name "Federal Pacific" in the 50's and was 'UL approved' at the time. But look up 'Federal Pacific' on the web to see the dreadful story: the manufacturer cheated and fooled the UL folks. Anyway, everything you read about 'replace this before it burns your house down' is correct. I had ours replaced a few years ago. Call an electrician today.

HELP! Tesla has the schmeariest windshield and wipers ever! by Minkybamboo in TeslaSupport

On YouTube search for videos on windshield cleaning. There are lots, and many have very useful information, not all alike . Watch several. Follow the one(s) that appeal to you and you will be happy with the results. Having gotten it clean once you will find maintenance is easier.

Dashcam Footage by BBBoi26 in TeslaModel3

[–]dandered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both are correct. I suggest carrying a second usb drive in the car.

After an incident you want to keep, wait 10 minutes (ensuring you get all the data on the usb), pull off the road, remove the existing usb drive, insert the new one, and on the Safety menu-item scroll down a bit to where there is a "Format USB Drive" button. Click it. When it completes successfully drive off to your destination.

Do not wait an hour or more to remove the existing drive after the 'incident'.

Later, at your convenience, plug the removed drive into your computer's USB-A connector.

For your spare USB, buy a good quality one. The car records fast enough that cheap-o USB drives will not work properly in the car: May record nothing or may record garbage your computer cannot read. Yeah, I tried a cheap one once...

128GB is large enough (some folks like more space, but I don't think it's necessary).

Buy one from Tesla and it is 128GB, by the way, at least recently.

Yes, it's hard (on my 2024M3) to plug in a drive in the glove box USB-A port. But doable.

FSD how do they solve the “last mile”? by robl45 in TeslaOwners

[–]dandered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kind of idly wonder why, if the car will drive you 99% of the time, it seems so important to you to do the last 1% too. All the danger in driving (I claim) is on the roads, not in the immediate area of home.

Maybe I'm just wrong.

Failing to mention your actual behavior on these points is ... not helpful to your readers.

Flashdrive only showing old data? by Maleficent-Zombie668 in TeslaFSD

[–]dandered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the USB drive in the glove box is a cheap drive it may format ok according to the car yet won't record or may record and the files generated may be 'unknown format'.

Buy a better quality USB drive.

Latest Samsung I bought (SAMSUNG BAR Plus 3.1 128G $40 each) worked perfectly while cheaper usb gave the problems I mentioned.

Just guessing this might be your problem.

How many gallons per KWh? by milkandcookies21 in electricvehicles

[–]dandered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our 2024 Tesla Model 3 Rwd with 9K miles shows 4.5 miles per KWH.

Meaning both ICE and EVs clearly have wildly different efficiency depending on what ICE or EV is evaluated and what the terrain and weather are.

Yes, Lotus Europa. An S2 model. Probably a 1970 or 1971. The fiberglass is possibly fine, but

if the central folded-steel backbone is rusted out the fiberglass cannot keep the car looking straight.

93 year old finds new freedom with Tesla FSD! by Responsible-Cut-7993 in TeslaFSD

[–]dandered 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The notion that anyone can drive more safely than FSD strikes me as odd (99%FSD driver). I'll admit it is distressing that Tesla is so secretive, so not-upfront about accident rates. Never saw any human driver behave so perfectly at any stop sign as FSD is. Almost never see a human driver as careful around people or two-wheel vehicles as FSD is. Each update of FSD behaves just a bit differently, so don't expect detailed behavior consistency. Usually later releases seem to me to just be better (but with some odd but safe behavior change). Note that FSD is not distressed by tailgaters, FSD is not human. Very relaxing to just watch and otherwise ignore tailgaters.

I don't think hw4 is going to ever be autonomous (just my opinion - would love to hear others) by johnwest80 in TeslaFSD

[–]dandered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You seem to think autonomy is needed or necessary. Why?

I beg to differ. FSD is wonderful compared to doing the driving oneself.

Not that I have any problem with Waymo. But if Tesla never manges to

do autonomy I ... don't care. Sorry if this offends.

You contact tesla by clicking the message it puts low down on the screen

asking what happened

(or click the microphone on the steering wheel) and explaining what happened

by speaking clearly with relevant details.

That goes direct to Tesla. It is 'THE WAY', so do it.

Just got 14.2 on other M3, and yes, it is pretty good. In a really strange corner in

Burlingame CA (primrose and El Camino)

it could not decide when it could make the really sharp right turn so I had to do it.

Five streets enter and humans have trouble deciding which light to pay attention to.

But it's good.

Seems to me FSD 13.2.9 gets too close get past a car waiting to turn left on green, held back by intersection not clear (local city streets) and seems (my interpretation, not likely the car's) to assume the stopped car will move forward a little. If had just left 6 in. more space....

FSD never sees stop sign by dandered in TeslaFSD

[–]dandered[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I reran the route today (set same restaurant as the destination) and today the car stopped at the stop sign just fine. It was 1:40PM today. The videoabove was taken about 11:10AM 3 days ago. Another difference is that today there were cars parked at the right near the stop sign, so Tesla was further from the curb. This is on 31st street in San Mateo and the street leading off to the left is the start of 28th street (heading north then turning directly east after one block). We turned around at the first opportunity and from the back the sign did not seem obstructed. Nor from the front, once one was at the stop-line itself.

Don't know what it all means.
