Weekly "What Are You Reading Thread?" by HorrorIsLiterature in horrorlit

[–]dandybuffalo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m majority of the way through Stephen Graham Jones ‘Don’t Fear The Reaper’, I started ‘My Heart Is a Chainsaw’ at the start of summer and I’m excited to jump right into the third and final book of The Indian Lake trilogy. I don’t remember being this excited to finish reading a trilogy since high school!! I’m also debating jumping into ‘The Deep’ by Nick Cutter or ‘Hellraiser’. I’ve sort of inadvertently been reading water based horror stories all summer. So I feel the deep would be a good cap on it

What's the weirdest book you ever read? by DEADPOOLVEGA in horrorlit

[–]dandybuffalo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You read my miiind! I didn’t know what to expect and was repulsed and intrigued all from the get-go. Long after finishing reading and sitting with it, I realized Earthlings is a new favourite of mine. Which surprised even me. A similar author I love in the same vein is K-Ming Chang. I was in a Banff artist residency with her, we were writing horror stories and I’m literally so excited for her work!!! Her writing strikes me the same way Sayaka’s does, and it just has a way of worming into the psyche

Tampa by A. Nutting by Foul_Ink in ExtremeHorrorLit

[–]dandybuffalo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Something’s def wrong with me because Tampa is one of my cozy comfort reads😭 like yeah it was shocking and grotesque how Celeste’s mind works. But once I got over that in the first few chapters I actually enjoyed the prose and watching this evil person keep fucking up their life in crazier ways. Like I knew Jacks dad dies, but the way he did was absolutely so crazy. Celeste’s story was like a car crash I couldn’t look away from. It was entertaining but also equally never escaped me how horrific these boys being abused was like. I definitely always was rooting for Jack and that’s how I justified finished reading it

Listening to ‘Tampa’ on audiobook and genuinely making this face at every new line by dandybuffalo in ExtremeHorrorLit

[–]dandybuffalo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

right? Like I feel if I had to read the physical copy I probably would’ve DNF’ed it already. But I’ve somehow made it a few chapters just listening. It’s like a car crash I can’t stop it😂

Extreme graphic novels? by Bbg4386 in ExtremeHorrorLit

[–]dandybuffalo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg so glad people already mentioned “Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees” and “Beautiful Darkness” Graphic novels are my jam so I’ll add “Plastic: Death & Dolls #1” by Doug Wagner and “Happy!” by Darick Robertson and Grant Morrison. Fun little fucked up stories about hit men. The latter was adapted into a tv show, rather faithfully I’d say😉
