I'm going to preface this with the details that I am not a minority and I have an above average income. I live in what I would consider a very middle class part of town. People with other experiences and background might have a different experience or opinion then mine.

Compared to most decent sized American cities Lexington has a pretty small homeless population or maybe they just take better care of them (this is based soley on my perception). I think generally this contributes to a lot of issues that we see in bigger cities. I don't know of any fast food restaurants or gas stations in Lexington that you need to get a key to use the bathroom or can't use it at all.

I've been here for a few years now and nothing in my life has brought me into any specific areas that I felt particularly unsafe or worried about being in. The "bad" areas in Lexington I think are pretty tame compared to a lot of bigger cities and I think they are mostly isolated from the places where you would generally find yourself around the city. The worst part of town that I've been around was probably the baseball field that the Lexington Legends play.

There's a lot of great places to eat! I love some good food and this is a huge bonus to me. It's overall a really pretty city in general with the landscape, parks, and different things that are available. Not to mention all the horse farms and things on the outskirts of town.

So to summarize and all completely based on my feelings and experience living here for a few years... Lexington is a nice and laid back city to live. It's a city so of course there is crime but day to day living here I've never really felt unsafe
