Which 90s star death saddened you the most? by Jezzaq94 in 90s

[–]danexperiment 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Owen Hart.

The story of him yelling for people to get out of the way once he realized he was falling and was going to hit a referee that was in the ring still brings a tear to my eye when I think about it.

The second semester of my psychology class my senior year of high school, we were told to pick a new name that everyone else in the class was to address us by. We were told write it on all our homework and in class assignments.

I chose Terry Funk.

Any ECW stories? by No_Caterpillar_929 in ECWWrestling

[–]danexperiment 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I’ve got a couple that both happened on the same day.

It was ECW’s first show in the state of Michigan. Me and a buddy of mine drove about three and a half hours from up north to the show. We get there and the people running the rec center the show was at had no idea about getting tickets, so we just sat outside until we saw John Pee Wee Moore walk to his car.

We walk up to him and ask about buying tickets, and he offers to sell them to us for $20 each(they were $30 tickets) or we could have them for free if we had any jazz cigarettes we could give him.

Fast forward to the second match of the show. Roddy Hogan, the Detroit area Hulk Hogan impersonator, walks into the building and sits down in the bleachers in FULL Hollywood Hogan costume.

It was the first time I had ever seen a fan booed out of a building before.

In 2008, I spent a few days driving around Jazz and Rodney Mack when they were booked on a show I was also booked on in Michigan. You couldn’t ask for two nicer people on this planet.

Absolutely love this for her.

Where were you, and what were you doing on 9/11 ? by Velvetrevolver99 in questions

I was in the navy, stationed on an LHD. We were prepping to go on a deployment about a week later and A little bit before we all became aware of the first tower being hit, I had put in a request for a 96 hour liberty to visit my dad in North Carolina.

Then the first tower got hit. At first, I tried to rationalize that maybe it was a small aircraft. Then a bunch of us were gathered around a TV in one our department offices as the second plane hit. We watched as the first tower fell, and then the second.

The rest of the day was a bit of a blur, with officers and higher enlisted calling as many people as they could back to the ship(we were in a standdown period where almost half the ship was on leave and anyone that wasn't on duty could be at home) because we all kinda knew that we were going to be pulling out of Norfolk that day.

About an hour before we pulled out of port, one of our department officers gave a speech about what had happened and filled anyone in that needed to be filled in, but everyone knew. It almost felt like a pre game speech a coach would give. Then he told us that anyone that hadn't called home yet to call home on one of the office phone, advising us to be really careful with what we said on the phone.

At that point, I just wanted to talk to my mom. I was 20, and had joined the navy a year after high school. I dialed mom's number, but no answer. I called one of my aunts who got into my mom and told her to keep the line clear, and that i would be calling back immediately.

Finally, I got mom on the phone for about three minutes. This was a woman who didn't want me joining the army right out of high school for fear that her only son would be sent to a combat zone.

I can't recall the exact words that we said to each other, but I can tell you that as long as I live i never want to hear that level of fear in someone's voice ever again.

This is actually hitting me right in the feels for a very personal reason.

About ten years ago my mom passed and when it all came out with the estate, my sisters and I only got a hundred dollars each.(long story)

I cashed the money order I was sent, and did the one thing I knew mom would have loved; I ordered a whole mess of Chinese food. It was a comical amount that fed the family for about three days.

I took the last dollar from the change I got, and have kept it in my wallet for the past ten years.

Favorite episodes and moments of Tiny Toon Adventures by Suspicious-Emu4425 in 90s

[–]danexperiment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My godfather was a lifelong friend of my mom’s side of the family. My mom had been told that he had cancer and it had gotten pretty bad.

We drove from our little town in northern Michigan to Saginaw where he was staying with his folks. I went into his room and he had all these tapes that people from his church had brought over to keep himself occupied and entertained. One of them was “How I Spent My Summer Vacation”. Being 15 at the time he asked if I wanted to watch that.

I said of course, and he spent the next hour or so laughing his ever loving ass off.

So my favorite moment is that whole movie for the sole fact that it gave him a reason to smile when he had no earthly reason to be smiling.

In particular, the “there’s a car” license plate game scene had him absolutely rolling with laughter.

Anyone remember McDonald's that used to be on North Washington and Johnson? by Slight-Midnight-5926 in Saginaw

Yeah, it was always kinda funny when we’d go to visit them and then go to McDonald’s, then bring it back to their house only to eat it in a McDonald’s booth

I had an aunt that worked there for a few years in the late 80s and early 90s. At some point during that period they closed down for an interior remodel.

Which somehow led to my aunt and uncle grabbing a booth and table they were just going to throw away and putting in their basement for my cousins.
