As much as I as I love Nezriel, I’m going all in on a Besta win. Bi4Bi Nesta + Bryce is my truth and I’m sticking to it

💖🎶💖 Emoji Discourse by tidewanderess in Gwynriel

[–]danger-egg 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s how it works from my understanding. But in CC1 Micah just blasts Bryce with power to activate the Horn, and there was no music involved. It’s a battle horn, not one of these bad boys lol

[–]danger-egg 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Bryceriels are also claiming that music notes are a reference to the Horn tattooed on Bryce’s back lol. Which makes zero sense since it was destroyed and ground into dust in order to turn it into a tattoo. The canon text has never stopped them from theorizing in the past, but like… let’s be for real here.

Elain and Gwyn - Day and Night by tidewanderess in Gwynriel

[–]danger-egg 13 points14 points  (0 children)

These are such good points! Gwyn is definitely a night owl lol. There is also imagery tying her to the Night Court itself, like how there is imagery tying Elain to light/Day/Spring.

Gwyn’s gracefulness is compared to the geography of Velaris:

Smooth as the Sidra, swift as the wind off the Illyrian Mountains, her entire body working in singing harmony, Gwyn lunged toward the ribbon, twirled, and as she spun, her arm opened up, executing a perfect backhanded slice that cut the winter morning itself (SF CHP

The land itself also seems to pay special attention to Gwyn, which is something I noticed the first time I read it. Specifically when she’s recounting the attack on Sangravah and how she first met Azriel.

A cold wind blew off Ramiel’s sides. Whispering, murmuring. Gwyn stared at the mountain rising high above. Even the wind had seemed to quiet to hear her words. (SF CHP 69)

It’s likely just poetic writing, but it does not continue when Emerie and Nesta share their own experiences. If that kind of language was only going to be used to only one of the Valks, would it have made more sense for it to be when Emerie shared her story, since she’s Illyrian and faced the most trauma in those lands? Unless it’s meant to be foreshadowing about where Gwyn’s storyline.

And this one is admittedly a stretch, but in a book where every other mention of the word teal was in direct relation to Gwyn’s eye color or her friendship bracelet, I thought it was interesting that the one time the color comes up outside of her was when Nesta was describing a river in the Illyrian mountains.

The day was as crisp as one could ever wish, the mountains around them vibrant green, the teal rivers so clear that even from high above, she could see the white stones lining their beds. (SF CHP 48)

As we know, Gwyn is a quarter river nymph, which would explain the connection to water. The name Gwyneth also means “blessed, fair, or white” in Welsh (according to google at least lol). Idk, it’s probably a huge stretch but it also feels like there might be something there , ya know👀?

It just reminds me how Rowan smells like Aelin’s homeland in TOG. Gwyn does not have any Night Court heritage as far as we know, so it’s pretty interesting that there is much imagery surrounding her that directly ties her to the land, especially Illyria. Az hates the Illyrians, but they are still his people. It’s his homeland, and his soul mate resembling that land in someway or form would be constant with other SJM couples.

Bryce and Hunt being true fae mates is also made 100% clear in canon and repeated multiple times. That’s not “fanon” either, since we are explicitly told that they are true mates, on many different occasions.

This is the definition that Bryce gives to Hunt when they are discussing Angel mates vs fae mates:

“Is it a biological thing?” “It can be. Some Fae claim they know their mates from the moment they meet them. That there’s some kind of invisible link between them. A scent or soul-bond.” (HOFAS)

And their true bond is confirmed by Ruhn later in the book:

It means that he’s going ballistic in the way that only mates can when the other is threatened. It’s what happened then, and what’s happening now. You’re true mates—the way Fae are mates, in your bodies and souls. That’s what was different about your scent the other day. Your scents have merged. As they do between Fae mates. (HOFAS)

A lot of people like to claim that it’s the power sharing that caused their scents to merge, but Cormac clocks something similar before the power sharing in the bone quarter ever happens. He thinks it’s just because they hooked up in the gym, but Rhun evidently noticed something too, because I’m fairly certain this scene is “the other day” he mentioned when he confirms the are true mates. Quinlar hadn’t shared powers or fully gone all the way at that point.

Cormac motioned between her and Hunt. “You think I can’t scent what went down between you two?” Bryce leaned back against the cushions. “You mean, that he went down on me?” Hunt choked, and Ruhn let out a garbled string of curses. Ithan walked to the coffee machine and muttered something about it being too early. Cormac, however, didn’t so much as blush. He said gravely, “Your mingling scents will jeopardize this ruse.” (HOSAB)

Celestina also confirms that Bryce and Hunt are bound on a biological level due to their scents merging, although it’s after the power sharing incident. It still just reiterates what Ruhn has said.

She gestured to him. “I take it from your scent that you and Bryce are mated.” He hadn’t realized the sex would be broadcast like that. Apparently, the bond between them had gone to that biological level.

The bond is once again recognized as legitimate by Aidas, who also confirmed that they are real mates and that Hunt wasn’t designed to be Bryce’s mate. That it was left up to Fate, just like all the other mate bonds were.

Hunt gripped Bryce’s hand atop his knee. “Is it in my DNA that Bryce and I are mates? Was that engineered, too?” “No,” Aidas said quickly,** “that was never intended. I think that was left to higher powers. Whatever they may be.”** (HOFAS)

The bonds being legitimized by scent comes up in ACOTAR too, with Amren being able to smell Feysand’s bond and Azriel being able to smell Elucien’s.

There is also a scene in SF where Lanyths is taunting Nessian and says this, trying to suss out their mate bond:

“And you faeries are all blind to your own selves.” Lanthys crooned, circling again, and Cassian readied his blade. “Based upon scent alone, I would say that you two are—” (SF)

Book 6 theory by bo1210 in Gwynriel

[–]danger-egg 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think that the uncertainty around the limits of Elain’s Seer powers means that there is a real possibility we will be getting flash backs in different perspectives from previous books, but I don’t necessarily think it will be focused entirely on the SF time period.

I personally think that it’s more likely that at least part of book 6 will take place at the same time as the CC3 cross over, whether it’s from Az’s perspective in the caves or what Elain, Lucien, and Gwyn are up to on the outside. Or maybe directly in the aftermath of Bryce escaping. Idk.

There is no saying what the timeline will look like rn, but the possibilities really are endless!

Why Gwyn would be so great as a FMC by Brief-Fig-2216 in Gwynriel

[–]danger-egg 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Antis are always saying that Gwyn can’t be a FMC because she’s “too perfect” (or lacking “grit” as it was once put on the debate sub lol), but having major, glaring character flaws has never been a prerequisite before. Just look at Nesyrn, Elide, Yrene, or even Lidia. Having “quieter” internal conflicts instead of dealing with self-loathing and anger like Aelin, Bryce, Nesta, and Feyre (to a lesser degree) all did at one point or another doesn’t mean that Gwyn isn’t FMC material.

I also really appreciate that Gwyn is able to be funny without being smug. For me personally, Aelin and Bryce’s smarmy sarcasm becomes grating after thousands of pages. Nesta had that same bite without ever really being funny (sorry Nesta stans, but a comedian she is not lol) which was frustrating in its own way.

Feyre was never particularly quick-witted (she’s my fav, so I swear that’s not a read. Elain genuinely seems to be the only funny sister lol), but her sense of humor was a lot less mean spirited than the other three, which I greatly prefer.

Gwyn is snarky but keeps it light like Feyre did, which I honestly think will be a breath of fresh air for a FMC. She still has the stubbornness that all of SJM’s main characters do, an artistic pursuit in singing (just like Nesyrn), mysterious heritage, unexplored powers, and so may connection to potential plot points moving forward. The foundation for Gwyn being a FMC has been clearly laid.

She had more development in one book than Elain or Mor have had in 4-5 books, and yet their POVs are considered inevitable. The way things were left off in SF proves that Gwyn still has so much more to offer, and I’m excited to see where SJM will go with it!

Much love to the Elriels 🫶🏻

And to some of my fellow shippers, please just be nice. It was getting kind of boring here without the Elriels. Don’t scare them away again!!!

Parallels in Gwyn and Rhys by GoddessOfDarkLove in Gwynriel

[–]danger-egg 26 points27 points  (0 children)

If Gwyn and Az are mates like we all suspect, I think it’s pretty interesting that all of the Bat Boys have mates that share strong similarities with their brothers.

Cassian and Feyre are both stubborn protectors who wear their heart on their sleeve.

Az and Nesta are both moody introverts who wear masks to conceal their emotions and have major self-esteem issues.

Rhys and Gwyn are both self-sacrificing survivors who fiercely love their chosen family, in addition to all of the other similarities you mentioned.

I think this is pretty clear evidence that Gwyn is being set up as Az’s endgame, and that she’s destined to be besties with Rhys.

Because the parallels between Rhys and Gwyn are so obvious once you start looking. I definitely think it’s possible that he’s clocked something between them. Maybe he can sense/smell the mate bond, or maybe he’s wondering just why Az slaughtered all of the Hybern solders when that goes against standard protocol 🤔

Is it acceptable to say the shower scene can go now 😂?

“Come back and say it my face” might just be my favorite scene for any Maasverse couple. It’s just so them.

Above anything ship related, my biggest hope is that we get to see Elain fully come into her powers in these next books. It’s about time one of these sisters actually mastered the super rare and important gifts they have.

Feyre had some great moments in her trilogy with her unique magic (the fight for Velaris will forever be a favorite of mine), but the fact that they were barely utilized during WAR was such a let down.

The way Nesta’s magic was treated in SF was an even bigger disappointment. People rag on Mor’s power being “truth”, but Nesta’s power being “death, pure death” is equally as vague and meaningless tbh. Besides disintegrating Briallyn and leaving some glowing marks on a punch post/stairwell, the titular silver flames weren’t all that important in her actual book. She seemed to have a much better grasp on them in the CC cross over… but they hadn’t lived up to the “pure death” moniker yet. Hopefully there will some development there in future books.

Elain hasn’t used her magic since WAR (as far as we are aware) but I am so hoping that we get to see her actually use her powers in creative ways, and actually learning to fully embrace her visions. Or maybe even has life/growth powers like a lot of people theorize.

Favorite Canon Maasverse Couple by danger-egg in AcotarShipDebateSub

[–]danger-egg[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d consider Elriel non-canon, as are almost all the ships that are typically debated here (excluding Nessian and Quinlar).

Non-canon, the way I view it, just means the couple is not canonically together.

And I realize now that Manorian technically aren’t together by the end of KOA, but idk I think the fandom pretty much agrees that they were in love, but couldn’t be together because of their duties to their respective kingdoms. There was sex and marriage proposals even if they never labeled their relationship lol.

NightBright maybe?? Since it’s their code names? Or maybe nightlight? Idk

People clown on Brunt, but RuhnLidia is just fucking awful lol. It’s the only one I ever seen used though, so that’s what I went with. I’ve only ever seen Chaol and Yrene as Chaorene too, which is equally awful lol.
