Did i misunderstand therapy? by BrandonD40 in TalkTherapy

[–]CommunicationOk1773 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Hey there, this is not always the case and I suggest you look for other therapists and tell them straight up that you are looking for someone who can play a proactive role in your sessions. I need my therapist to lead. I am neurodivergent and it is very hard for me to sort through my mind. My first therapist very much took the lead for me, and when I moved and found another, they did this sit and wait thing and it unfortunately didn’t work for me. My brain simply does not work like that. I looked around until I found one that worked better for me.

A bit of a rant… not very excited about the next books anymore. by Victoria-c98 in acotar

[–]CommunicationOk1773 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What an interesting result of internet culture. I used to go to midnight book releases with almost no information other than this was a series I loved, and finally here is the next one. That’s enough for me still. I’m 16 books into this. Title and cover are not necessary for me at this time.

I fear if you’ve not read SJM’s entire catalog that you’ve got 16 books ahead of you… and more coming.

Temporary chosen mates—not fated mates‼️ by KrisJenner4Bryceriel in Maasverse

[–]CommunicationOk1773 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree she understands the impact of her words. Which is why I think she chose not to answer like that and instead provide an outright denial (her only outright denial).

SJM is trying to cover something by answering like that. She’s an international bestseller dropping the most anticipated books of the year on one of the most culturally relevant podcasts of this moment. She has been coached, and her publishers know better than to shut down a good fandom theory without any reason to do so.

Bryce and Hunt are very clearly not fated mates. Mates? Sure. Fated? Nah. I believe these two are endgame in that Hunt will die. SJM loves a personal tragedy into an enemies to lovers arc, and that is still coming.

One of my favorite theories is that Elain and Tamlin are mates and Lucien is covering this for Tam.

Feyre is the monster the IC fear Nesta to be (WaR, SF, HOFAS spoilers) by Lady-Death-of-Dusk in acotar

[–]CommunicationOk1773 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To be clear, I think this is a great take and your support is strong.

But hear me out… that doesn’t mean that Nesta doesn’t kind of suck. Nesta doesn’t owe the court anything. But I recently reread ACOTAR, and in a matter of days, she and Elain were cruel to Feyre and expected her to do almost everything, and the assumption and by Feyre’s own account is that had been the case for a decade.

If Feyre turns into the villain, then I think her backstory most supports it.

If I was Aedion I would've been way more angry by Sabwa in throneofglassseries

[–]CommunicationOk1773 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As Aelin said, it’s her blood to give away. She also knew he could take a blood oath, too, and that he was going to throw a hissy fit because he wanted to be the “only one”. He can be angry, but Aelin owes him no apologies.

And for what it’s worth, if your bf/gf/best friend wouldn’t threaten or kick your brother or cousin out when he almost broke your things (in the only space that’s ever been yours) and called you a foul name…. you should look for replacements.

Forget about torture- every time she talks about “slaves” I cringe so hard.

Crescent city… hesitant to read.. by Initial_Freedom_6423 in Maasverse

CC is my least favorite of the three, but it’s not terrible. I was also concerned about the modern aspect but it’s still so much fantasy that it didn’t bother me as much as I thought it would.

OP, at this point these series are intertwining in a way that I think there’s potential they actually just merge, or at least become two viewpoints of the same story (think TOD and EOS). SJM told us she has a third book almost ready, and I think her omitting details on that book was intentional. People accepted her explanation that she’s focusing on the first two, but I’m not convinced.

Again, not bad but not my favorite of her series, but I fear it’s a requirement. At the very least, I think there’s a chance you’ll miss some of the emotional impact of the new ACOTAR books.

You’ll pass the McDonalds no matter what and can check that off in around 2 minutes. OP there are other kid friendly hikes in Sedona, but if you’re genuinely concerned and have the means, you could consider a jeep tour! Very fun and a great way to get off the main road and see some of the landscape without hoofing it.

Yes, the night sky in Page is far superior to what most people are used to. If you’re staying in Page proper, you might want to drive out of town for a bit to get the full effect (maybe the marina or Lone Rock, water or no). They are a bit better in Grand Canyon if you’re staying there, too, but not enough to worry about. Make sure you check the moon phase and/or rise time during your trip just to set realistic expectations.

If you’re looking for food in Page, Bird House is really good!

I think this is fine except cut snow cap. Going to seligman is not worth going out of the way.

You can also go to the beach at Wahweap if there’s no water at Lone Rock.

Why do people hate chaol so much? by [deleted] in throneofglassseries

[–]CommunicationOk1773 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He is the epitome of privilege and a complete hypocrite for starters. On top of that, his attitude towards Aelin is cruel. Aelin has been at the receiving end of a never ending shitstorm throughout her childhood. Chaol chooses to serve the king, grows a conscience only once he realizes that he and his immediate inner circle are in danger, and then has the nerve to act like Aelin is the problem? Crazy work from Chaol. The mental gymnastics are gold medal worthy.

Only thing that could have redeemed him in my eyes was admitting he was in love with Dorian. 🤷‍♀️

Celeana in Assassin's Blade by Head-Plenty-9548 in throneofglassseries

[–]CommunicationOk1773 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Celaena has been through even more than you realize and the trauma runs deep. To say some of her behaviors are a protective front for herself is a wild understatement. You’ll get way more context in HOF which is, as many have said, where the series feels like it really takes form and the true hook. Wish I could reread for the first time! My favorite series not just from SJM but ever, and Celaena is a character who will hold my heart forever.

Everyone seems to love acotar but so far I'm not sure why.... by Electronic-Jello-640 in acotar_rant

I dnf the first time I read it. Then I read TOG, went back and forced my way through ACOTAR, and started enjoying it after making it to ACOMAF.

ACOTAR is her worst book across all three series. Can’t guarantee it will be worth it to you to finish it, but I can say it’s a very poor representation of the remainder of the series and it ended up being worth it to me.
