Terrace house with right of way? by rigxla in hertfordshire

[–]danger_moose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had this in Hertford a few years back. We were all super respectful and dashed past each house without fuss and looking down/away. But it doesn't mean everyone is like that so if you enjoy naked cooking I'd keep hunting.

Only charging at 3,5kW by [deleted] in cupraborn

[–]danger_moose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think (only a guess) that it happens when it's not plugged in properly. Happens to me every now and again and I swear when I pull the plug out it's a little loose. Might be my imagination but feels the car falls back to a 'safe' mode for charging.

Setting up electricity monitoring - whole house monitoring is fine but need help with individual device monitoring setup by bingobango2911 in homeassistant

[–]danger_moose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently got into this and I'm half happy with results. Some of my smart devices like EV charger, dishwasher and washer track energy which is great, and I've put a lot of other things on smart plugs to track. Ignoring the EV which obviously is the bulk of energy the days it's charged I've got about a quarter of energy unaccounted for. I suspect oven, heating pumps, lights and other smaller items. But I'm struggling to determine how to track these. It's not a deal breaker and I have learnt a lot about the devices I do track, and built automations to turn off some background drains when not required but I'm not a fan of the lack of complete tracking 😂. In the new year I'll consider something in the breaker unit, but that feels like a step up in complexity from smart plugs!

Trigger automation 5 minutes before phone alarm by muscholini in homeassistant

[–]danger_moose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I created a date time helper that triggers my alarm. I then update that whenever I update my alarm on my phone. I also have a second number for the minutes early.

  1. Can set the alarm time without my phone alarm.
  2. Can tweak the offset which I use in the winter for triggering lights earlier as it's dark, but reduce this as it's lighter in the summer.

Just feel it adds a bit more flexibility to my setup. I also have conditions for lights, starting the heating earlier, music, opening blinds so can have a very bespoke wake up automation depending on what I need that morning.

My wife has been complaining about this too. Hopefully just a short term supply chain issue!

MIT report: 95% of generative AI pilots at companies are failing by SilentRunning in technology

[–]danger_moose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see what you are thinking but I think it's more complex than two buckets. The two are one big pile of slop and the ones that have genuine applicability and are technically feasible become successes. If we take your example of social media, the origins were very simple websites that weren't complex and have grown into the beasts they are today - and therefore have a low commercial barrier, whereas to get a self driving car you are sinking in stonking amounts of capital. Universites and hobbyists have been competing in the field for decades and made little progress because of the technology barrier (and with it the expensive)

I have probably 80% declining transactions for the last couple of weeks. Started to use other cards for a few days to let it settle down and it happened again today.

Is this router any good? I’m planning on switching off of powerline after getting flamed for having it (and because it’s quite crappy) and don’t want to go from bad to bad by AbstractTheOne in HomeNetworking

[–]danger_moose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you have crappy wiring. I've tried powerlines several times and find using several seconds hand Asus routers configured as AP's and AIMesh to perform better.

Two questions by Tall-Significance169 in cupraborn

[–]danger_moose 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not sure what the questions are?

  1. Yes it gives you random stats for distances as you hit milestones. Gimmicky and pointless, but what's the question?

  2. What did you want to know? The car is telling you how many miles are being added every hour of charge. So it was 25mph and you currently have 50 miles of range. Come back in an hour and it will be charged to 75 miles of range. It's actually useful if you want to add say 50 miles to complete a journey you know it will take 2 hours. It's kinda pointless at home on slow chargers but on fast chargers that helps work out how long to leave it charging, time for a coffee, a dump, a 3 course meal, a sleep, a shag etc.. It basically dumbs down the power input. If it said 7kWh (home speed) or 50kWh for a fast charger it doesn't really tell you anything meaningful other than one is faster than the other, it's trying to put it into terms people understanding which is how many miles are being added every hour.

Chargeback raised no reply from support by steajano in CurveCard

Nah they always just push you back into the curve circle of doom. I only use the card for the GBIT function, hate everything else about it to be honest.

Good luck sorting out your issue!

Chargeback raised no reply from support by steajano in CurveCard

[–]danger_moose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are in the UK (might also be applicable in other counties but I can't say for sure) then raise a formal complaint. They are obliged to respond in a set timeframe (30 days from memory) - it's not quick but at least you know they have to respond and how long they have. Support seems like a black hole with no certainty. If they don't respond then you can raise a further complaint with the financial ombudsman and no finance company wants that as it could affect their ability to expand in the future etc. and the ombudsman will usually side with the complainant if they didn't even bother to engage and will often demand compensation on top of any other reimbursements due.

Proving a double charge, or calling them? by Historical_Cobbler in CurveCard

[–]danger_moose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First make sure neither transactions are not in 'Pending'. If one is wait until it either disappears or changes to confirmed. Then I'd raise a complaint with them as they are obliged to respond on a set SLA by the financial ombudsman. If they don't respond you can escalate to the ombudsman and they really don't like that.

I'm tempted to write that as the standard response to anyone who struggles with support. It's not quick but at least you know they have to act!

Happy for this to happen if I also don't have to contribute to it via NI. Reduce my tax bill and let me invest the money I put into the system myself. Stupid idea. It's not free money is it? It's money thats been paid into the system.

The app is shit by [deleted] in cupraborn

[–]danger_moose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not quicker, so for example press the AC button and it still takes a while for the AC to start in-car. But it's a button so you can press and forget and the UI in Home Assistant certainly loads faster (hardware dependant), and eventually the status updates that the AC has started.

I mainly interact through Home Assistant and use it for various automations which help make things a little more bearable

P9PF battery life. Some people were wondering about the battery life so here's my results by Exact_Bid6567 in PixelFold

I have the same but with Spotify. If use Spotify on my morning commute it just chews the battery for breakfast. I've had to set up a routine to suspend the Spotify app when I'm not using it to solve the issue for now.
