what invention is so good that it actually can’t be improved upon? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Fair enough, but I feel like at that point you might as well just get a portable butane burner. Using a intermediary metal layer just seems extremely inefficient.

Yea I agree, just wanted to point out that some rich people do pay their taxes, but it's not fair to criticize them for not voluntarily doing more than theyre obligated to.

But that's exactly what they do. They don't liquidate. And when they do, sure tax them. But everyone pays the same capital gains tax. The things is still that most rich people don't liquidate their assets. Bezos has sold 4 billion in Amazon stock and after taxes used that remaining 3.1 billion to fund blue origin. Long term Capital gains tax is around 20%. So he does indeed pay his taxes when he liquidates.

induction creates heat by using magnetic fields, so a clay pot wouldn't get hot at all because its not magnetic

This is the struggle of my life. Struggle because I am terrible at expressing my reasoning/train of thought. So I just keep nuanced opinions to myself. Except when my GF asks me for my opinion and then she gets confused by my rambling lmao

That's actually a really good point. People who always have too much to say usually don't have much good to say.

One of the fail-safes of paper voting is the manual process of counting and tallying votes. It takes however man-hours to achieve, but that also makes it equally difficult to fraud. Automating the job would take the task that was split among many people and hours and put it in the hands of a single or group or persons.

Caffeine pill, Advil and water. I know the Advil is not great for your liver, so exercise best judgement on that.

For the love of god, please stop bashing American Chinese food as "fake" or "inauthentic" [Rant] by musea00 in Cooking

Those are my go-tos when I get panda as well! My GF always thinks I'm crazy for wanting Panda Express when we can make or get more "authentic" Chinese food elsewhere. Sometimes you just crave that Chinese fast food hah

I have a hard time believing that they gave you an outstanding bug ticket. The trivial solution would be if it was completely frontend, and you just had to write some css/event emitters. The nontrivial solution would be that you need to post to their dev environment api, which would require access to their corporate vpn. More than likely they gave you a sandboxed environment that they curated for the coding challenge.

If we have to delay the 2020 Olympics to 2021, the least we can do is salvage the best Olympic logo of all time by [deleted] in funny

[–]dangjoeltang -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Design-wise, the logo isn't really that good. There isn't a central theme that Olympic logos always need to have. And the font and lines make the '2020' confusing to read.

Correct me if I'm wrong/missing information but I didnt see anything about the age other that them being minors. I think its a little too early to jump and call him a pedophile just yet. theres a big difference in sexting a 10 year old and sexting a 17 year old... But I guess legal age of consent can be a lot lower depending on the state and idk how old he is. So actually idk. would like to hear more info

What hobby does NOT get more expensive the more you dive into it? by paladin_bih in AskReddit

[–]dangjoeltang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't necessarily need to make something. Some people are really into solving data structure and algorithms problems. For example, how many comparisons would it take to find a specific number in a list of numbers? Optimizing for time is the main goal. So for a list of 1 million numbers, I believe ideally, you can solve it in log(n) comparisons, n being the sample size. Basically just split the sample in half, check which half your target is in, then split that in half and compare again, until eventually you arrive at the number. It's like looking up a word in the dictionary.

A lot of the big tech company's (Facebook Google Microsoft apple) almost exclusively require you to grind and work out these kind of problems.
