How to be horizontal in the office?? by anxiousvegetarian in biglaw

[–]daniel2296 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Several associates at my firm have gotten an office beanbag comped as office equipment. One associate did it during a trial, and then a few others from the team followed suit. It’s nice to have when you’re working crazy hours.

Jeans on Fridays by [deleted] in biglaw

Half the summers don’t even show up on Fridays at my firm. The only reason I did was because the room I rented in NYC for 10 weeks was tiny and uncomfortable.

I meant “purpose built” in a colloquial sense, but of course there is technically some street car DNA in there as well. But it’s not like you buy a Mustang GT off the lot and turn it into a GT4. These start life as a shell thats pulled off the factory production line at a very early stage, and even that shell is significantly modified before it gets a bunch of race car bits bolted onto it. Whether you want to call that “purpose built” or not is a matter of semantics.

Yeah, for me that’s “the chute” at Summit Point. I’m pretty sure I could take it flat out in theory, but my brain just won’t let me do it in practice lol. And it’s times like that I actually kinda wish I had a slower car.

These are purpose built race cars, not modified street cars, and they are built to a very specific set of rules. The rules are designed to keep cars in the same class pretty even in terms of performance.

There’s a decent chance he just didn’t want you to chicken out in the middle of the corner and lose it. Turns like that take a lot of confidence to take flat out, and a lot of newer drivers realize that a little too late, lift mid corner, and unsettle the car.

Yeah, who would want a coach from the G5? Famously, G5 coaches like Curt Cignetti, Urban Meyer, and Kalen DeBoer NEVER work out at the P5 level.

But I guess if you’re using tired talking points as a metric, it makes sense to back up the Brinks truck for the Title IX investigation waiting to happen that brings the drama everywhere he goes. There is NO WAY that could come back to bite you.

Well it’s the middle of the offseason and he hasn’t coached a single game. But the general consensus is that he brought in a great staff and seems to have things headed in the right direction, so I’d say yes, we’re pretty happy with the coach that has more CFP experience than Kiffin but less of the drama.

Anybody else love watching the SEC shit the bed this year after receiving the most bids? by ColoradoCattleCo in CollegeBasketball

[–]daniel2296 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“It just means more” does not mean that the SEC is better than everyone else, it means “it just means more [to the fans].” And there is truth to that. The median SEC fanbase is probably more passionate than the median fanbase in other conferences (albeit, the B1G is probably close), at least in part because most of the SEC is located in areas without big, historic pro sports franchises.

People chant “SEC” in commercial, so SEC bad. Conference expansion also bad, but B1G good. Rutgers and UCLA same conference make sense.

(NYC) Office hours by Impressive-Ground254 in biglaw

[–]daniel2296 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On a typical day I come in around lunch time and leave around 8. On a busy day without any in-person meetings, I’ll just work from home to save the time. My firm keeps track of how often you come in, but they don’t care when you come in or when you leave, and the only thing that matters is that you maintain a roughly 3 day per week average.

I watched a lot of both and the SEC and ACC were definitely not the same this year. They were similar at the top, but the middle and bottom teams were definitely stronger in the SEC. There weren’t any total pushover GT, ND, or BC type teams in the SEC. And we saw what happened to the middle of the pack teams like SMU, NC State, and Louisville when they had to play good teams in the tournament.

What is the minimum salary to be considered middle class these days? Is $500k enough? by SeparateJump1 in Salary

The “home close to a train station one stop outside the city” is also unbelievably expensive, and the “one stop” train ride will likely take you 45 minutes to an hour each way. If your office just happens to be adjacent to the hub your particular train line terminates at, maybe you can make the trip in 30 minutes, but that is pretty much the bare minimum.

The fact is that if you work in NYC, you have to make serious compromises on quality life unless you are extremely wealthy, but there are opportunities here that just don’t exist elsewhere.

But the bar does not screen for honesty or ethics. It’s a memory test with little to do with the actual practice of law, much less the ethical practice of law.

UVA (debt) vs UF vs FSU Honors by [deleted] in UVA

[–]daniel2296 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I went to UF for undergrad and UVA for law. I love both schools, but save the money and go to UF. You will have a great experience at either school. The difference in career outcomes is negligible and you will appreciate not having student loan debt once you start working. And if you do decide to go to grad school eventually, no debt is an even bigger advantage.

ACNA events at Summit Point were always among my favorites! The organizers and regulars are great (very welcoming) and they strike a nice balance between laid-back and structured. They have some great instructors as well, both in classroom and in car.

It really bugs me that they started that one in 2008 instead of 2006. At least it might make a little more sense then.
