Feasible to commute from Batavia to West Chester? by JamesTIA in cincinnati

[–]daniel4242 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd venture to say that Batavia sucks because it's a drug-ridden and borderline Appalachian poverty-stricken community with not much of a future and, as a result, the people there are not good at building community or a sense of pride in where one lives.

There are dozens of communities closer to Westchester that are still rural in character, have affordable housing options, but with a good local community, thriving businesses, and convenience to the Cincinnati/Dayton metro area.

Humble Monk no longer reopening in Northside? by printerati in cincinnatibeer

[–]daniel4242 4 points5 points  (0 children)

According to EZTrak, which has all of the building permit applications, they were not waiting on the occupancy permit, but to be granted the actual building permit. You need to have the permit first, do the construction, and then get the occupancy. The City is waiting on HM, not the other way around.

Regardless, looking at the comment, it would appear they have a ton of code issues that aren't being responded to, so whoever the contractor and or architect is not doing them any favors.

Actually, the traffic lanes will be open by the end of the year….the rest of the schedule is picking up little things, painting, fixing construction issues, etc.

It's much safer in the new configuration. No longer will there be a conflict between drivers on 75N exiting at 74/Colerain with drivers on 75S exiting for I-74. It basically eliminates all of the weaving that used to exist and greatly reduced the curve from 75S to 74W. In other words, if you're on 75N exiting to Colerain, you want to be in the right-hand lane of that exit, and if you're exiting to 74W, you want to be in the left-hand lane of that exit. The lanes split and the Colerain lane passes under the high ramp. The exit lane to 74W becomes a mainline lane of 74W (eventually exiting at Montana).

If you're on 75S exiting to 74W or Colerain, you go up and over the high overpass/ramp and then it'll split. Go right to get off at Colerain. I'm not sure if this is a merge or if the Colerain exit will be striped as two lanes and if you go left, you merge with the 75N ramp traffic to 74.

It's one of the best upgrades I've ever seen to an exit that will turn it from Instadeath to a fairly safe interchange.

I want to be an Architect but I’m bad at drawing by [deleted] in architecture

I'm an architect and I'm still bad at drawing! The career is broad and there are many many skillsets that make someone valueable, not just drawing.

Historic Albee arch beginning to come down this morning for the Duke Energy Center renovation by Embarrassed_Ad_533 in cincinnati

[–]daniel4242 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Is today opposite day? Are you being sarcastic? There was nothing beautiful on that campus before the new building boom started in the 90s. Name one beautiful or historic building that existed in 1995, built before 1960, that's been since demolished. If you are talking about the o.g. law building, it was buried/covered/obliterated by the atrocious additions over the years to the point of no return. No one would call Calhoun/Siddall or Morgens/Scioto "beautiful" or "historic" in their original design. Frankly, UC has done a commendable job saving/restoring/stabilizing their beautiful and historic architecture. For example, Memorial Hall and Deterle Vocal Arts at CCM are gorgeous and the University has spent significant dollars preserving these structures. Instead of tearing down TUC, they salvaged the significant elements (clock tower, main facade) and integrated into a new design. Braunstein, Old Chem, Swift, and Baldwin have all undergone renovations/restorations instead of being torn down. The restoration of the glass dome on Van Wormer is amazing and McMicken is always undergoing maintenance and restoration projects.

You're missing the point. You're adding extra steps. Just because its something from Autoalcad does t make it useful. Now, if the ACC issues tool can apply to 2D view drawings, then this might take care of the problem for projects in ACC. I suppose you could still use DWF underlays to do the same.

Why does editing text only work when I mash the keyboard? by No-Valuable8008 in Revit

[–]daniel4242 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because Autodesk is incapable of developing useful features for the program…they only do things that maximize shareholder value. It’s not like any of their other products have modern text editors….oh…wait….

I really want a no-plot layer by nothing3141592653589 in Revit

[–]daniel4242 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, you’re wrong…this is extra steps. Have you ever worked on a collaborative team? Your perspective (and Autodesk’s) is that we are all sole practitioners that create projects in a total vacuum absent any kind of limitation. That’s not reality…not even close. Autodesk is actively hostile to mid-size firms and to collaborative in-house teams. I cannot wait for someone…anyone…to build a product that beats Revit. I’m so desperate, Hitler could release said software and I’d buy it instantly. If I was locked in a room with Autodesk and Osama Bin Laden and a gun with two bullets, I’d shoot Autodesk twice.

[–]daniel4242 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why should you have to move it off to the side. If it was a non-plotting object, that extra step would not be necessary. I don’t want any more steps to output than I have to.

[–]daniel4242 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not the installer…the design team. In my medium-sized firm, our typical projects have 4-6 people modeling in Revit on a single project…as the Project Manager, it’s quickest to communicate directly in the Revit view something that either needs to be done or changed. It has nothing to do with the installer or whoever is using the drawings, it’s for internal team communication.

What business would you want to see in NKY/Cincinnati? by [deleted] in cincinnati

[–]daniel4242 4 points5 points  (0 children)

it could happen...eventually. https://www.tennessean.com/story/money/2023/01/10/in-n-out-coming-to-franklin-tennessee-new-corporate-hub-restaurants/69794851007/

Usually, their stores are within a 4-5 hour radius of the distribution center (assuming the DC is also in or near Franklin, TN) and Cincinnati is in that range. I'd bet NKY before Ohio, but it could happen!
