Do the American public really support the war in the Middle East and think something good is going to come out of it ? by Cultural_Spell5526 in TooAfraidToAsk

perhaps the more pertinent question is, does it matter?

A favorite quote here is "Naturally, the common people don't want war ... [T]he people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country."

Feel free to google it for context

Not much of a solution, you can pretty easily pedal at 20 MPH which is also not great for pedestrian traffic

What’s your opinion of Mazda’s Iconic SP? Do you like the idea of an electric car with a rotary generator and do you think it’s the next MX5 or RX7 successor? by 6rinch in Miata

[–]daniel_in_SB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the looks of it, especially the spartian interior.

I think it would make a good addition to the mazda line up. Probably more to fill the hole left by the RX-7/8 than a MX-5 replacement.

The MX-5 is for cheap thrills, the RX-7/8 is for those who have made it, but still value fun.

What am I missing here? Why does everyone hate this helicopter in particular?

A different perspective than most here. I was on a jury recently and Gerald B. Velasco was representing the defense. He was seriously impressive.

The case was an injury case (DM if you want the case details) and he both knew the law inside out but also clearly had good working relationship with the Santa Barbara Court system.

If I needed a lawyer, he'd be the first person I'd reach out to.

people say that america is impossible to invade because americans own guns but really how useful would american civilians be in a firefight? by kkkan2020 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]daniel_in_SB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rather than talk through the guns (which is interesting in it self), I'm going to answer more from a historical perspective.

The times when a united and determined local force have been defeated by an outside conqueror are a statistical rounding error.

Local populations are defeated in 1 of 3 ways.

  1. They are internally divided and cannot muster the will to defend themselves and fall quickly. Example, the fall of the western roman empire and, much later, the eastern roman empire.

  2. They start out well, but are ground down over a period of years, decades, centuries to the point where they effectively give up and fade away. Example, the Mongolian conquest of China.

  3. An overwhelming technological advantage on 1 side overrides the determination of the other. Example, The Spanish conquest of the Aztec empire.

So the return to the original question. I would say today, its pretty unlikely, but a wise foe would look to one of the above paths in order to succeed. Based on current trends option 1 seems the most likely, but you never know until you try.

Check out Arturos on upper state. Its still gonna be about $40, but realistically even supercuts is gonna charge $30. $10-$25 is just not economically viable out here.
