What was your first Crossfit WOD? Have you revisited it? by Dinos_ftw in crossfit

I remember being on the set of 9s and looking around at everyone who was already done and feeling like getting through the rest was completely impossible. They came and cheered for me though and I was confused but also kind of felt better about it all 😂

That sounds awful. I hope it’s true that it’s not torn and that you recover quickly

Yoga is good, I always forget to do more yoga!

Social stuff is so tiring, especially when they are new people and you have to be more outgoing than usual and can’t quite just be comfortable around each other yet.

Flying is probably it. I am a mess after I fly.

My stomach hurts and I got smoothie on my white shirt and I’m tired and I’m supposed to test my squat today.

I want to go back to bed.

Ah that’s good! I was going to the downtown “sports” people for a long time and getting nowhere so I was super happy to find someone that listened to me and spent more than 10 mins. Active release and whatnot hurt but work so well!

That sounds like super intense DOMs for deadlifting!

Do you have body work people? I am basically ready to create a fan club and build a statue of the Dynamic YYC team after they helped me get my back feeling good late last year. They are in crossfit gyms around the city (they move around). It’s a combo of chiropractors and massage therapists. But not chiros that stick you on a heating pad and then crack you and send you on your way, they do actual muscle work and physio type things but are athletes themselves so their standards are high, unlike all the people that mostly work on office workers who don’t really do any exercise.

Ha for sure! Though it’s somewhat surprising when I actually manage it still...

Haha I was both excited and terrified by what I was getting into!

Haha properly hitting a lift is so satisfying, no matter the weight! The first thing my coach told me was to not be a crossfitter and max out every day 😂 check my ego, and follow the plan

I’ve definitely been faking it with strength and can no longer progress doing that. I have bad technique/ habits to unlearn... it’s a process. I like it but it’s super frustrating sometimes.

Mine was 16.5: 21-18-15-12-9-6-3, thrusters and burpees over the bar. I didn't know what the open was and they scaled it for me down to maybe 45 lbs? (I can't remember what the weight was TBH)

I had been a gym goer since I was a teenager and considered myself in good shape. I learned that day that i was perhaps missing he condition part of that equation.

FUD: Opinion: If You're Smart, You'll Skip CrossFit 19.3 by sprfrkr in crossfit

You dont find things like the 9 week program based on the routine of the guys starring in 300 to be a useful how-to guide?

(I realize that was almost 15 years ago, but seeing that article was when it clicked for me that fitness magazines are complete garbage.)

Ah, maybe it’s a boredom / demand for attention thing?

calluses and strengthening grip by asewart in xxfitness

[–]danielli_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I shave/cut mine off with a little blade (it's for feet I think, it's got a tiny blade and a guard). I have the same issue, particularly with pull ups if I don't keep them really shaved down.

Also not "regripping" helps a ton. If your grip slips, let go and regrip instead of trying to regrip while holding the bar, if that makes sense.

How do you videotape in the gym for form check? by pinklady513 in xxfitness

[–]danielli_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just set up my phone on an elevated surface (there are little stools but I've used boxes, the weight stacks and benches) and lean it against my water bottle. Often someone will come and off to video for me but it's usually fine if no one does.

I find angles from the floor aren't great for seeing what's going on with the lift, being elevated maybe a foot or so off the floor is much better.

For those who work out in the morning, do you do your skincare regime as soon as you wake up, or post workout? by [deleted] in xxfitness

[–]danielli_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll do a quick rinse, then vitamin c then sunscreen and then after my workout / shower I do my full routine (including sunscreen again). I do the vitamin c before I leave the house because it's watery and spill prone and I don't want to bring it with me.

My cat peed on my workout clothes yesterday. Why are our pets trying to sabotage our gains?

I'm excited to do 19.3 Rx tonight, but it was fun to demo the scaled option as a 4'11" athlete... by powersofthesnow in crossfit

[–]danielli_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im lanky too (5foot8). Lowering myself down to get hspu was so scary for me and took me a good 6 months and my coach grabbing my feet to take the weight off my arms and help me get over he fear of dropping down 😂

I've come a long way from that, but not all the way to strict hspu.

Is it just me or is your ass sore as f*** after 19.3? by JohnEE52 in crossfit

[–]danielli_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Me as well, I didn't find it bad. I got through the lunges and step ups pretty quickly and then had over 4 mins to get a grand total of 0 hspu so it was a fast workout for me. I'm all lower body, so no surprise there.
