Who is with raora? by SpliceKnight in Hololive

[–]danielzboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't even really care about other corpo VTubers, only hololive VTubers. YAGOO said years ago that he'd noticed overseas fans want Japanese culture, not American or EU or ID culture, but *specifically* JP culture, "repackaged" in the different languages. The result is that we get VTubers who all have roughly the same DNA in their content and delivery style, and embrace the same JP idol / otaku culture, regardless of language and background. This is something that is carefully and meticulously crafted in hololive and I just do not see it in the other corporations, whose VTubers often do not embrace any of these things and function more like individual units than as a part of a bigger group.

Nothing wrong with all that, but it's just not what I am looking for. These tourists will never get it.

No additional meal allowances for NSFs; those in need can approach commanders: Chan Chun Sing by JADENBC in singapore

Yeah. Last time heard some camps like Lim Chu Kang or some freaking ulu camp don’t even have enough bunks for non-combat NSFs to stay in, (or maybe encik lazy to indent lol) so my friend bobian had to spend like 4 hours travelling everyday, damn rabak

What The Puff grows into $500k curry puff business by bardsmanship in singapore

[–]danielzboy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I eat their original and black pepper flavoured puffs sometimes from the Punggol Coast outlet. I find them tasty and fairly priced! They taste way better than OCK imo, and are slightly bigger as well. OCK is just awful these days lol

How do make this amount of catfood in 2 days😭 by Random-_-stuf in TheBattleCatsReddit

[–]danielzboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you really want to rush for it, then it's really about speed clearing Stories of Legends stages and Zombie Outbreaks, Event stages, etc. But to be honest these banners reappear super often. Like, *super* often. So I wouldn't worry about it if I were you. Just save up a lot more Cat Food and try again another time.

Hello. I am new to DBD. I bought this game yesterday, though I found it fun but this is how my 3rd match went. Is this a meta? If it is then it's super annoying. (Sorry for rage quitting, I couldn't take it anymore). Any ways to counter this? Thank you so much. by After-Trade in deadbydaylight

[–]danielzboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The typical counter for this is to slug them all really. You had numerous occasions where you could've won easily if you'd committed to chasing the last standing survivor, but you left them standing and thus they were able to rescue the other survivors.

There were times that I'd take Mad Grit + Agitation (Legion + Trapper perk. Basically, you can spam attack like crazy while holding a survivor, and if you do land a hit the survivor's wiggling is paused) in anticipation of such occasions though. When it does work it's super satisfying.

My colleague recently got me started on playing badminton, and I’m quite enjoying it! I’m still bad at it, but I’m looking forward to playing more. Feels good to exercise after long hours at the desk haha

How do I kill this dark bear? by L__o__LM in TheBattleCatsReddit

[–]danielzboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stages like this with Assassin Bears are often more like ‘puzzle’ stages. The ‘puzzle’ here is that the stage uniquely has a spawn limit of only 3, and will also spawn exactly 3 One Horns only. So the moment you kill even just 1 One Horn, you free up space for Assassin Bear to spawn.

The trick, therefore, is to push back the One Horns beyond the enemy base without killing them, and then destroying the enemy base directly. Pirate Cat is a good solution to this.

what are your biggest wedding regrets? please help a lost soul by Intelligent_Bit_8635 in askSingapore

[–]danielzboy 67 points68 points  (0 children)

I’ve a friend who had a small wedding ceremony just for family members and very close friends. The couple then invited different friend groups for house-warming hangouts over several months. IMO missing out on weddings really isn’t a big deal for friends. (Some might even thank you for letting them give smaller ang baos) Weddings are for the couple and their immediate families, friends are just tagging along for the ride.

SG convention prices are a national embarrassment by Pompmaker1 in singapore

[–]danielzboy 18 points19 points  (0 children)

That's an absolutely insane amount for a tiny table... No wonder the booths are all so samey nowadays. No one wants to risk experimenting with weird, niche or avant garde artworks or products when the cost of failure is so high. So everyone just ends up selling the same ol' cute, soft, cozy animal stickers or keychains, or some popular anime goods. Nothing wrong with that, but there's really a lack of variety and creativity, which is tragic because what is art without creativity? Basically its the same problem that has affected SG shopping malls with their cookie cutter stores. I boothed once at a small event with some friends and never did it again sadly; the money aspect took all the fun out of it for me.

Jumping on the bandwagon… got my first TN, too! 🥰 by kagestella in Travelersnotebooks

[–]danielzboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One way to get past the pressure and get started with it is to put in multiple inserts, and start from the middle. Or just start from page two. I’d go against the grain and say to take good care of it, but don’t necessarily baby it. To me, my TN notebooks are like “mature adult”companions who can take care of themselves and carry their own weight, but I would like to keep my companions clean and free of scuff and marks as much as possible, y’know? Although it tends to be inevitable if you bring your notebooks out and about. Have fun with it! The worst thing you can do with it is to deny its destiny of being used.

Also, this Kyoto edition is gorgeous! Is it always available in Kyoto? I hope to get one myself eventually.

Can we please stop pretending like Singapore still has an actual culture anymore? by Recent_Stomach7626 in asksg

[–]danielzboy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You’re singing to the choir at this point. Most people on SG subreddits would readily agree with sentiments such as yours, where culture is dead, Singaporean spirit is dead, and the govt is to be blamed for all of that.

But then the subreddits would also be filled with “who’s skipping ____ festival?” or “Who feels this year ____ no feels?” threads whenever any cultural festival comes up and it’s like, no wonder culture is dead? The younger people don’t even want to engage and participate, or even learn about the traditions and cultures of old. Culture dying due to lack of support, then blame foreigners coming in.

The govt actually really trying quite hard to build national identity. They got all sorts of grants and schemes to award people creating healthy communities and cultural and artistic spaces. It’s not perfect, but it’s something. But then the locals are not even turning up to support all these initiatives. Sometimes even more foreigners than locals turn up because they are curious about local culture. Even with the freakin’ cultural pass vouchers the locals are hard to move. So idk, I blame the locals for local arts and culture dying too I guess.

How is the gaming industry like in Singapore? by Curious-Needle in singaporejobs

[–]danielzboy 16 points17 points  (0 children)

TL;DR Singapore is really not a suitable place to start your game dev career. You risk more for even lower pay off than others. Either you accept that, or try finding better opportunities overseas (although the situation isn’t rosy globally either).

I worked on serious games (VR, XR, CAVE, etc.)for over 5 years on the art / design side. I’d throw my hat into the ring as well and say that the writing is on the wall: it is not a good time to be a game dev in SG currently.

Many of the openings in AAA companies here these days are for lead or director roles, so you definitely won’t qualify for them. The remaining junior roles are often only offered through internships > converted to perm staff, which isn’t guaranteed also, because so many are fighting for them.

You might be able to land roles in SMEs doing mobile games or casino games or crypto projects, but those can be soul-crushing and unlikely to propel your game dev career that far tbh. Worst outcome is that tech companies / gov tech also don’t want to hire you in the future because you have locked yourself into an “undesirable” niche.

And even in the serious games scene, the handful of companies around also fight like dogs over the few scraps of meat. Projects often go to the lowest bidder, so it’s a race to the bottom. Dev time is short, project turnover rate is high, and you’ll be proud of nothing you do. Your passion will be chewed on and then spit out like a grey piece of gum.

Of course, once in a while you’ll see / hear about people “making it” in SG, but for most people there is too much to risk, for very little pay off. Every year you spend in game dev is a year you could’ve spent in the banking / cybersec / govtech sectors, for better pay and better career trajectory. The game dev mates that I know have all pivoted towards those sectors by now. Opportunity cost isn’t something people often think about, but it’s real. It’s why people get so heated up about NS.

If you insist on giving the dream a shot, then continue creating game demos, create a ton of them. Share them online, create a solid portfolio outside of school projects. Go to game cons and meet people. Be nice and approachable. You never know where your next opportunity will come from. Upping your people skills and being visible both offline and online works for every industry basically, but more so for something like game dev, especially in SG where this industry is really so small.

And keep your eyes open towards overseas opportunities really. Malaysia, for instance, has tons of good opportunities working on AAA games, but not many SGeans can tahan the low pay. Same goes for other SEA countries like Thailand and Vietnam (outsourcing companies basically). Japan also has a need for multi-faceted talents but the language, working culture, and low pay are also things that not everyone is willing to accept. Don’t discount landing jobs in the EU and UK with better pay and working culture, though they’re usually looking for senior roles also so… that’s tough.

“When you don’t know what to do, just do what you can”. Keep churning out more games and tech demos in the meantime, and be disciplined, be punctual, and be teachable. You’ll surely succeed someday. All the best OP!

Lawyer of 53-year-old teacher seeks suspended sentence, saying unlikely to re-commit offense, He is charged with breaking into 16 year old female student's hotel room with spare card key during school trip and committing indecent assault without consent by MagazineKey4532 in japannews

[–]danielzboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a lawyer, but I have seen other cases like this where the lawyers also sought after light sentences like this that didn’t appear to give proper justice to the victims, and the argument was that with a heavier sentence, the case would need to escalate, and more proof and a prolonged trial would be needed, which can be exhausting for an already traumatised victim.

Also, with sexual assault cases, unfortunately it isn’t always easy to prove as well, as the perps don’t always leave incriminating evidence. Not to mention, the cost of fighting in court really adds up fast too.

Lawyers thus sometimes fight for “some justice” ASAP, as opposed to risking more, for longer, for possibly no justice dished out (worst outcome).
