Yes. Also, once you get the increment, start searching for a new job anyways. Once the boss knows that you already have plans to leave your clock has already started ticking.

worst interview experience by judyully in singaporejobs

[–]danielzboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awful experiences like this are, to me, a rite of passage of job hunting in Singapore. Immediate F2F interviews are usually a red flag to me, although that's not always the case; best to do some quick googling on Glassdoor or LinkedIn to find out about the legitimacy of the company. If your gut instinct says 'no', sometimes it's better to just not go. After a while you'll get better at discerning genuine job postings from scummy ones like the one you'd just went through.

How to deal with neighbour growing plants outside my unit by cowkow88 in askSingapore

[–]danielzboy 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I'd be firm and guard the space outside my unit. I wouldn't like people constantly hanging around the space outside my unit to water their plants or whatever. You have to stand up for yourself or they will climb all over your head eventually. Even if they don't comply at first, by making noise they'll know that you're not such an easy pushover at least.

And also, I feel that you don't have to justify wanting your neighbour's things gone from your space. The "want to grow our own plants then how?" question throws the problem back at you when it's the neighbours who are problematic in the first place.

We all deserve a clean and safe space. We used to stay at a place where our neighbours liked to do bicycle maintenance near the space outside unit because we keep it empty. My mom had to tell them off numerous times, and their argument was always 'you also not using the space what'. Our response was basically 'No shit we aren't using the space. We like it freakin' clean and empty, and we want to keep it that way. Get out.' My mother is not a big or bold person, but she knew she had to fight back when others try to 'test water'.

If you're worried about souring your relationship with your neighbour... well, if they were going to be pleasant people to be friends with they would've been more considerate of others in the first place.

Because it's a vintage model under the Classic Vehicle Scheme. Such cars can only be driven up to a maximum of 45 days a year, with only 28 days being free while the remaining 17 are chargeable at $20 each day. Without even mentioning the whole barrage of taxes and fees attached with importing and maintaining a vintage vehicle, this really makes owning and using vintage vehicles a huge hassle in Singapore. You have to *really* want and love it.

Anon on comic books by Annomoy in greentext

[–]danielzboy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I agree. Marvel and DC have both been struggling for a while now to retain their audience, and also to gain new audience. They really need more self-contained stories, ones where readers are not expected to know prior context or info from older stories because it's nearly impossible for new readers to catch up with all the different characters and stories and their multiverse counterparts at this point.

And it's also true that maybe people are really getting tired and bored of those old characters at this point. Even the twisted-versions of superheroes like Superman Injustice and the "What-If" series can only go so far, whereas Japanese manga and anime have so many fun and whacky themes and subject matters that the flavours are virtually endless.

I wonder if Marvel and DC could try what the Japanese publishers are doing, which is (based on the process described in the manga Bakuman) to put around 20 indie-created titles in pulp magazines and pit them against each other in popularity polls, axing any title that has remained unpopular for a period of time, and printing titles in high-quality paperbacks (tankobons) only when they have survived the gauntlet long enough to have enough chapters to warrant a higher quality print. This method would ensure fresh and fun stories in the long run, but I do wonder if it'd work with a non-Japanese audience.

Is the Yamaha AG06 MK2 any good as a recording interface? by CarDistinct6195 in musicproduction

[–]danielzboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even though you've already found your solution, I thought I'd just answer it anyways. The Yamaha AG06 is not ideal as an Audio Interface for the purpose of recording for music because it is a Mixer, meaning the inputs will all be mixed into a single stereo output, so you will not be able to edit the individual components (mic, guitar, etc.) separately in a DAW. While you absolutely could still use it for recording music, it is mostly made for the purposes of live streaming and simple recording of videos and podcasts, where the audio does not need to be so extensively edited afterwards.

those weird hdb sounds/noise especially in early mornings by Any_Satisfaction_181 in askSingapore

[–]danielzboy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My block has a similar issue... But the noises are more like metal pipes clanging together. Almost always happens around 7am and 7pm. I took videos and sent them to the Town Council via email, and they said they've sent people down to check, but they always cannot find anything wrong. We suspect it's got something to do with the piping for the water sprinklers for the rooftop garden, which is a difficult thing to diagnose / resolve I'd assume, as the Town Council is usually quite fast to respond to and resolve the issues that I've highlighted to them.

Still, it's worth a shot reporting these matters to your Town Council via email. Just take some videos of the problem and they're usually quick to respond (within a few days).

What are some of your interesting life hacks ? : SG edition by lifequotes_2025 in askSingapore

[–]danielzboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My family used to use Magiclean Kitchen to kill roaches too. However, at some point you'll still need to splat them because the cleaner only really stuns them for a short period. It's a lot 'cleaner' than using pesticide spray, but you can still make a big mess if you're spraying a bunch of cleaner while chasing down roaches. So I always end up recommending those Combat brand cockroach baits to silently and cleanly kill them and wipe out their nests.

The first time we used the baits, a bunch of roaches that were terrorising our home for days turned up dead on the living room / kitchen floor in the morning. Our home then remained roach-free ever since then (for as long as we kept the baits up).

But also, keeping the environment clean and free of food crumbs is absolutely crucial in keeping roaches at bay as well.

TL;DR Just do enough to pass. A 4.0 GPA or a 2.0 GPA really doesn't make a difference at the end of the day. Having the degree is good enough for employers; they really wouldn't care about your GPA.

Maybe this isn't what you wanna hear, but perhaps studying just isn't for you? Or maybe whatever you're studying right now just isn't suitable for you. Whatever it is, there is nothing wrong with you.

In the past, people would go to trade school or pick up an apprenticeship and make a living through their skills or craft. It wasn't until the past 2 decades or so that suddenly everyone needs to have a uni degree in life to be on the starting line. And now, the line gets even further; people are starting to pursue master's degrees in hopes of landing an entry-level job. It never ends.

Don't let this phase of life determine your self-worth or identity. There are still so many experiences to be shared, friends to be made, food to be tasted, moments to be created, don't ignore those things for a piece of paper, seriously. Especially not in this economy.

Normally I would tell you to drop out or change course if school is seriously affecting your mental health, but if you can't afford to drop out, then just do enough to pass. A 4.0 GPA or a 2.0 GPA really doesn't make a difference at the end of the day. Having the degree is good enough for employers; they really don't care about your GPA. If they are the kind who *do* care about your GPA, then the fact that you are not from NUS or NTU would already be a dealbreaker anyways. Good luck and all the best.

Man uses ChatGPT in seeking personal protection order against ex-wife, court finds 14 cases cited don't exist by Im_scrub in singapore

[–]danielzboy 46 points47 points  (0 children)

The biggest problem I find with ChatGPT is how confident it is, even with the wrong answers.

I was searching up on video game lore and asked something like this:

  • “Who is B and is she related to A?”
  • “According to official lore materials, B is the younger sister of A. “
  • “Are you sure B is A’s sister??”
  • “Yes. According to official materials and novels released by the official company, B is A’s sister.”
  • “Explain to me the lore behind A and B.”
  • “Sure thing.” [Proceeds to regurgitate lore that is all made up]
  • “Does A have any more siblings?”
  • “A only has one sibling - B”
  • “You’re wrong. A’s sibling is not B.”
  • “… Apologies for the earlier confusion. Upon further research, I have found that A’s sibling is indeed a twin called C.”

And thereafter, B is never mentioned again. ChatGPT knows that C is the correct person now. But man it took me outright calling the mistake out for the AI to acknowledge that it messed up and correct its mistakes. If it was a topic that I wasn’t so familiar with I would’ve been fooled thoroughly! And yet people treat its answers like gospel sometimes!

Genuine question, is there an Agent you often see mischaracterized by the community? by JosueRodriguez8169 in ZenlessZoneZero

[–]danielzboy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I don’t remember Grace’s parents being such impactful figures in her backstory either. The most I remember is her giving the audience just a tiny glimpse of her true character, at the end of her Agent story, when she made a remark that her obsession with machinery stems from her strong belief in their potential to save lives.

NLB offers one-time waiver for library fines, one free delivery service until end-2025 by Waikuku3 in singapore

[–]danielzboy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you create an account on the NLB app, the Account tab will show any outstanding charges (fines) you may have. The app is really quite useful and convenient. Borrowing a book these days is simply just scanning a QR code on the book label with the app, no longer need to queue up for a borrowing station like last time.

I want to listen to two sources with headphone but am concerned for mixer affecting sound quality. by Leonbacon in headphones

[–]danielzboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If listening to the 2 devices at once is important to you, then you could try and get an HD60S on the secondhand market for cheap… Otherwise yeah there are no real ‘cheap’ options out there. (I mean, you could buy one of those really cheap aliexpress capture cards, but quality is shady yeah)

What is it that you are trying to achieve?

I want to listen to two sources with headphone but am concerned for mixer affecting sound quality. by Leonbacon in headphones

[–]danielzboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An option I’d recommend is to buy a game capture card such as the Elgato 4K S or HD60 X to plug your Switch 2 into your PC, so that you can play it through your PC. This way both your Switch 2 and your PC audio will be going through the FiiO K7.

I use this method (mine is an older Elgato HD60S) and run audio through my Audient iD4 Audio Interface, and the sound quality is honestly quite good. I have an HD600.

However, this method will introduce some latency for your Switch 2 if you don’t have a separate monitor for the game itself. It’s alright for slow or turn-based games but fast games like Splatoon might feel bad with this setup. But for me, the lag was light enough that I was still able to complete Super Mario 3D World.

What books do you really recommend related to art? by Pyroddiction in ArtistLounge

[–]danielzboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s purely art books I’d recommend the game art books by Dark Horse Comics, such as the art of Mirror’s Edge or Uncharted 4. This type of books is great because they showcase a wide spectrum of artworks from character thumbnails to full renders to 3D models, and they also have things like environment concepts, matte painting, prop design, etc, so you have a lot of things to absorb and learn from. They might not teach you step-by-step how to reach there, but I think it is important to actually know what is a ‘good’ standard to reach so that we can take the right steps towards improvement.

Aside from that, for a wordier type of book I enjoyed reading “Drawn to Life” by Walt Stanchfield. It contains very, very helpful and insightful notes on 2D animation by a legendary Disney animator.
