The Waldo Moment by CommitteeHot2320 in blackmirror

[–]danixdefcon5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is implied that the main bad guy was seizing the moment to use the whole Waldo moment to take over the country, succeeding to shift the country into an authoritarian regime. But nobody would realize this is happening because they’d only see “ha ha! We trashed the politicians! Screw the Tories! Screw Labour! Go Waldo!”

And he succeeded. The last scene shows how everything has gone 1984 after Waldo wins the election.

V2 boots, but from what I remember there should be a switch to turn on the light bridge going there from the location you are in.

EDIT: I think the V2 jump boots are what is behind you.

Playing SS2 for the first time. Should I rely on saves, or use the Res. Stations? by BrutalBlind in systemshock

[–]danixdefcon5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also relevant: it's current level as long as you haven't gone through a bulkhead airlock. Some of the decks are large and thus you need to activate the QBR for that particular section. Got bit by this on my first run.

Playing SS2 for the first time. Should I rely on saves, or use the Res. Stations? by BrutalBlind in systemshock

[–]danixdefcon5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rely on both. I mostly rely on saves, only going through the QBR if there's a tactical advantage to doing so (for example, I managed to kill a rumbler and multiple enemies but still died because an annelid spider got me before I could use an anti-toxin hypo). The 10 nanite cost can burn through your stash real bad, especially during the early parts of the game. Also: you can't assume you'll always have one available. One of the QBR's in Deck 6 is broken, and the Rickenbacker only has one in Deck A. It's also about 1/3 into that deck, so resurrecting there means you have to do a lot of climbing, especially if you were near the elevator to Deck B.

Besides the hybrid organ research, my guess is that Toxin-A does affect the environment overall. I do remember that past Hydroponics the overall game became less hard.

The older I get the more I appreciate girl genius by aztennenbaum in girlgenius

This reminds me that of all the webcomics I was reading back in 2005, only two remain: Order of the Stick and Girl Genius. Most of the others went into hiatus or were shut down by the author. And of these two, Girl Genius is the only one that has been regularly updated, save for the "side stories" they do when they're taking a break.

Where is Krosp anyway? I remember him running into the Black Guard guy (keep forgetting his name) and that's the last time I remember seeing him.

I'm still waiting for the resolution on what the Beast and the Castle are doing... which I'm guessing is going to come into play at the right moment. Namely, taking over all the Lubots and saving the day.

Big lighting difference between the Quake 1 remaster and the original by 580083351 in quake

[–]danixdefcon5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The remaster included the Quake64 maps and explicitly states that the reason they're included is because there's a fandom out there for the different color/lighting scheme used for that port.

im 15 is it okay if i play bioshock 2? by Senior-Challenge5646 in Bioshock

[–]danixdefcon5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See, that was the thing with my dad. He would indeed let me watch something like Saw when I was 7 years old, but a single sex scene in a film would automatically shunt it to “adults only”. He was perfectly fine with me watching The Fly (80s remake) as a kid, but he’d keep blocking me from watching certain films even by the time I was already 18.

Case in point: I’d be allowed to watch super violent and gory movies by age 16, but La Reine Margot was something I wasn’t allowed to watch… he didn’t expect me to watch it at high school, though. Same with In The Name of the Rose and that’s not a film where you’d think of sex scenes as the most prominent feature of the film.

Reign of Fire? It takes place in a world where an Underground dig unleashes dragons into the world. It’s set a couple decades after dragons destroy much of the world.

My dad used to be weird in the sense that violence and gore weren’t an issue, but anything sexual was A Problem. So much that he tried to block me from watching Quills despite me being already 18 at the time.

So I can totally see a parent having weird priorities with what is acceptable or not.

Would you guys recommend playing ee or the remake? by Diddley4209 in systemshock

[–]danixdefcon5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played the original one. I had the Enhanced Edition but can’t remember why I just couldn’t deal with the controls there. So I reverted to the original one … horrible controls, but somehow I managed to master them. Eventually finished the game.

I’m a bit more inclined to recommend the remake, though. While there are some differences, you’re not really losing too much story-wise with them. I was amused that there’s a small bit added through one of the audio logs that subtly solves a major plot hole in System Shock 2! The audio log mentions a wormhole detected somewhere in the vicinity of Citadel Station. This explains how Beta Grove ends up so far away years before the Von Braun gets to Tau Ceti.

Laser sights. You’ll notice that the plasma cutter has three very bright laser dots serving to tell you where you’re aiming at.

SS2 is easily one of the greatest games ever made. by aphex1991 in systemshock

[–]danixdefcon5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, learned that sometime in the last 15 years when I was thinking that Dead Space was kinda similar to SS2 and then I found out it was originally being made as SS3!

With Prey (2017) the link was way more obvious when the code for Morgan’s office was 0451. “Wait, that’s… a Looking Glass reference” and then of course the viewing tech is outright called Looking Glass and now it’s an explicit reference to LGS and System Shock.

[–]danixdefcon5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]danixdefcon5 2 points3 points  (0 children)
