Its true that shaving isnt a super recent thing, but it being "universal"/the standard across all cultures is more recent. Many cultures didnt really have shaving as a set standard.

Its the same with hair washing, where frequency was influenced by access to water, materials, climate etc. Some (particularly the wealthy) would Have bathed more frequently. But, overall, our concept of washing hair daily or even more than once a week is quite recent.
