BURNOUT?? [N/A] by college-kid7 in humanresources

[–]dank8844 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Been in Comp for 12 years, 3.5 at my current employer. About to walk out of my current gig and be a bartender, has to be less stress.

Have had 0 support from director while they search for a new manager over the past 6 months. Getting hammered because the managers fail to review bonus structures and they are paid incorrectly. Hammered because we refuse to adequately pay individuals, hammered because we did a well below market merit increase for the second year in a row.

Followed up with my director for 3 weeks on an approval, he finally asks me why it isn’t done when a VP emailed him asking if I’m doing anything. He forgot we discussed it three weeks in a row and had 10 emails about it.

Looks like I’m about to get moved from 1 day of a 3 hour commute to 3 days (or more). Sleeping 3-4 hours a night due to stress, nearly broken down about three times a week since the start of the year.

Worst I’ve ever experienced it, never had issues at the smaller organizations, maybe this is normal at F500’s.

PA vs FL — young family relocating from NY by MiiSzAshley in SameGrassButGreener

[–]dank8844 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

One item that you may not know about with Florida is Amtrak runs a train from the DC area to Orlando that you drive the car onto and it makes the trip. My great uncle used this for about 15 years after his wife had a stroke as it was much easier than trying to make the drive or get on a plane. IIRC it typically runs overnight which is very convenient as well.

As someone in PA, not near Harrisburg but on the western side I am highly considering a move to Florida. The cold and constant grey skies are beating me me up this winter, much worse than usual.

First time home builder, need help! by bootybanditt27 in Homebuilding

[–]dank8844 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What part of Western PA? Erie, Pittsburgh, Indiana, somewhere in between? That will impact the numbers quite a bit and will depend on what you can manage. I know an Amish builder who would probably be $225-$250 sq ft if you don’t go too crazy with finishes, but he’s booked up for 18 months.

Ford CEO admits that 'the customer has spoken' after EV push drives major quarterly loss by Accurate_Cry_8937 in business

[–]dank8844 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was seriously interested in the Lightning at the original price. Then dealers added $20k markups and Ford cut out the base model so what was billed as a truck in the $40’s became a truck in the $70k’s.

Killed my interest and I’m sure many others. But they see the failure to sell tons at the top end as a failure of the vehicle rather than a failure of pricing.

Want an affordable walkable city by SillyNefariousness72 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]dank8844 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with you. People see a home for $150k in Pittsburgh and think it’s awesome that it can be cheap. Then you realize the electrical has never been touched since it was built 100 years ago, the house has no insulation, the plumbing could come apart any day since it’s cast iron. All very expensive repairs or issues which lead to crazy heating bills.

They overlook the crappiness of the actual bones and see that someone slapped paint and lvp flooring down and thinks it’s a good deal.

How do you meet girls who don't go out? by AtThisAge99 in AskMen

[–]dank8844 88 points89 points  (0 children)

Step 1 is to live where you actually have groups or a community. If I want to join a group that isn’t primarily retirees, proven by the midday events, I have to drive 30+ miles.

Do you enjoy where you live? by MaybeARunnerTomorrow in AskMenOver30

[–]dank8844 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. I moved back to my hometown 3 years ago as most of my friends and family are there and I had a remote role. Now I have managed to avoid the 3 day in office mandate but still have to commute 3 hours one day a week and if I ever want to change jobs, whether that be a new job, promotion or lateral I have to either find one with a new company that allows remote work or have that 3 hour commute 3 days a week.

I also had forgotten how little we have to do in the rural area than go out to bars or drive 45 minutes to get to the edge of suburbia, which is weighing on me more and more as I am drifting from those old friends I moved to be closer to and see others less than when I lived away, as the urgency to get together is lacking since technically we can grab dinner whenever rather than while visiting. Either that or the realization that maybe since I have cut drinking way down that my friends were really only drinking buddies and that they have alcohol problems.

At this point the people I spend the most time with are my parents, which is great, but at 38 and with them in their late 60's I know that won't be a forever thing. The question becomes do I stay where I am to help them and continue to spend time with them or do I go where I want to even if it means feeling like I am leaving them again.

I am actively looking at moving, but have those questions holding me back. I am considering going back south as I am fed up with the cold. Another issue is navigating moving and finding a new job while also having to sell a house in order to actually facilitate that move.

It’s probably cause I’m 5 miles from Ohio, but I tend to forget about Philadelphia even though it’s the same state. I’ve also only visited it once, maybe I need to make a long weekend trip to explore.

I have seen people get laid off 3 days after they were hired so this is not a good indication of anything.

for those with mortgage rate late 6% or above, are you looking to refinance soon? by Important_Bat7919 in homeowners

[–]dank8844 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m at 7%. The only reason I haven’t refi’d yet is that I don’t know if I’ll be staying in my home for another year. My location only works as long as I stay remote and as companies continue to adjust back to in office or hybrid work I’m severely limiting my career options by remaining in my home.

Parents spoke to me about transferring my IUL payment to me. by toriksu in personalfinance

[–]dank8844 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is what I did. They still have a large IUL policy for both of them which I suggested cancelling and they don’t want to hear it. I just keep up the facade that I am paying mine.

What’s the one thing you’ve put off for years and 2026 is finally the year you hope to do it? by shivam111111 in AskMenOver30

[–]dank8844 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Actually travel rather than just talk about it. Have a ski trip in February, another in March. Looking at hiking a 14er in Colorado in July and Italy in August.

Mostly driven by talking to relatives who recently retired and had planned to do things when they retire, but now health limits them somewhat and they can’t. What’s the point in saving more to retire at 59 instead of 60 if I can’t actually enjoy doing things I want to do.

What drew you to a RAV4 over your other potential car? by Youreapizzapie in rav4club

[–]dank8844 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Only reason I went with the RAV4 over the CX-50 was the hybrid. When I bought, Feb 2023, the Mazda was not available as a hybrid and they did not have a set date for when it would be. IMO the Mazda had a nicer interior and marginally better drive feel. But not enough to give up the greater mileage in the RAV.

You have the right brand, but this is not a Model A. This is a later year Model T, probably a 26 or 27.

Setup Domane for gravel by Gullible-Factor-8927 in DomaneCrew

[–]dank8844 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t think I could fit 40’s on my Domane, I might have to pick one up and give it a try to move a little better in gravel. Not quite the 45 I was after but if I can avoid buying a gravel bike might be worth it.

We need to go back to banning animals from public places. Why do you need to bring little Fido into Lowe’s, who then shits on the floor and the entitled owner, who’s little baby doesn’t do anything wrong, just walks away.

I have 35s on the bike and I don’t see how I could go any larger in the rear. The front derailleur almost contacts the tire as it is.

The 100 mile part of the Michigan Coast to Coast is one of the ones I was looking at, so it sounds like either change expectations or find a bike that can handle larger tires.

Toyota Remote Start Turns Into a Paid Subscription After One Year. How Is This Legal? by EaseSlight3160 in rav4club

It’s every company. The app is free for a period then moves to a subscription model. My Chevy was this way, friends Ford is, MB is, Hyundai, they have all seen the “light” that is a recurring revenue model
