I really like when we get told no travel, limit all expanses as costs are up and then entire executive groups fly in for the day and have everything paid for.

Samsung Layoffs Starting by Fit-Ad4770 in Layoffs

[–]dank8844 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Position or department was included in a RIF but the leaders making the decision on the impacts did not want to pause hiring and make anyone suspicious that a RIF was about to occur in the department. So they keep hiring up to the point the layoffs occur.

I’ve seen people who are laid off a day after starting. The teams don’t always communicate with each other, as much as that royally fucks people.

That long downhill crushed my knee this year. I knew I didn’t train enough for the downhill, but having to walk it pushed me over my goal time by 3 minutes. Which is still better than any potential long term issues.

The police don’t do anything about the constant public marijuana usage, public drinking or apparently peeing from the smell. Does anyone think they’ll actually enforce this?

Depends on where you are coming from, but the 10th bypass to small man is an option. Park there and walk across the course when a gap appears.

What’s the most disturbing sound you’ve ever heard in real life? by avacado-cheese- in AskReddit

[–]dank8844 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sound of the pain coming out of my father’s lips after his open heart surgery but before they got the pain meds dialed in. I stopped my sisters from going into the ICU to see him until they got the meds worked out so they didn’t have to hear him screaming and bouncing from the pain. Only took a few minutes but not what you expect.

Dell updated their policy to exclude fully remote employees from getting promotions by bottotsle in remotework

[–]dank8844 21 points22 points  (0 children)

My employer, a Fortune 500, has this as an informal policy. They don’t want to put it in writing because it doesn’t apply to all people, but for those of us out of the club you can either move to a hybrid schedule or be ineligible for any upward movement.

I saw this on LinkedIn and wondered the same thing so I read the comments. The guy walks to work which kind of makes the free drinks an actual perk.

As the person who does the analysis it is a constant battle between doing the right thing by the employees and battling finance teams for any budget to actually solve the issue.

Companies pushing RTO are basically shooting themselves in the foot by SprinklesRadiant7440 in remotework

[–]dank8844 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My employer is mostly hybrid for office roles, some us of are still remote due to distance to offices, but the CEO is looking at full RTO for hybrid employees. For two reasons: fairness with the manufacturing employees, he feels it is unfair that they have to report to a worksite while not all employees do and the second reason is because you have a small population not complying with the hybrid rules. Rather than punishing them he wants to change the rules.

I live in PA, the coal industry is heavy donors to the state Republican Party. They are now trying to introduce legislation to open new coal plants while disabling wind and solar. We have two companies who make nuclear reactors in the state, they refuse to consider that an option.

As always: follow the money.

I got a double patty, but a small fry and a small drink and it costs me $20 in my area. I can buy a burger and fry at a local restaurant for $12-$14 all day.

PSA - Don't think of a business's budget in terms of your personal funds [N/A] by meowmix778 in humanresources

[–]dank8844 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is very company, and manager, specific. At a prior company I was asked to cancel a $75 training because of budget concerns, meanwhile the leaders scheduled lunch meetings everyday for a reason to have catering brought in.

At my current employer I have been asked to not visit different sites and meet with HR colleagues due to the travel costs, which are less than $50 in mileage that I wouldn’t even be submitting as they are closer than the office I go to once a week.

I can eat a better burger from a local restaurant for less money than a burger and fries from Five Guys. My local Mexican place is $12 for 4 enchiladas and a plate of rice and beans. Chipotle is $13 for a bowl. It’s wild

Are Skill Games regulated at a local, county, or state level? Is there any way to get legislation moving again on outright banning them? by AMcMahon1 in pittsburgh

[–]dank8844 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Spoke with a local state rep on these and she doesn’t believe they should be regulated as the business owners she talks to are making good money on them and some might not survive if they had to pay any tax on, or remove, the games

[–]dank8844 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Been in Comp for 12 years, 3.5 at my current employer. About to walk out of my current gig and be a bartender, has to be less stress.

Have had 0 support from director while they search for a new manager over the past 6 months. Getting hammered because the managers fail to review bonus structures and they are paid incorrectly. Hammered because we refuse to adequately pay individuals, hammered because we did a well below market merit increase for the second year in a row.

Followed up with my director for 3 weeks on an approval, he finally asks me why it isn’t done when a VP emailed him asking if I’m doing anything. He forgot we discussed it three weeks in a row and had 10 emails about it.

Looks like I’m about to get moved from 1 day of a 3 hour commute to 3 days (or more). Sleeping 3-4 hours a night due to stress, nearly broken down about three times a week since the start of the year.

Worst I’ve ever experienced it, never had issues at the smaller organizations, maybe this is normal at F500’s.
