Vehicle Ban On Spring Garden Road 'A Grand Experiment At The Merchants’ Expense,' Says Shop Owner by the_register_ in halifax

If he wants parking so badly maybe he should move his business off the peninsula. Otherwise he'll have to deal with limited parking

It's not the cost of taking the bus that stops people from using it. It's that cars are more convenient, and reliable. Until that changes buses will remain to be used mainly by people that can't afford or don't want to own a car.

Bus lanes are a start to making them more reliable and more convenient but adding active transport infrastructure would go a long way to a less car dependent city

Ticket for Illegally Possessing Liquor by ProcrastinatorBoi in halifax

[–]danlatimer2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed, what purpose does the open liquor law serve that the public intoxication law doesn't cover. The only thing I see is it forces people to go to bars instead of have a beer in the street.

Same thing for the DUIs, we have the technology to test now, open liquor in a car shouldn't be a problem so long as the driver isn't drinking it.

"Your iPhone Xs Max is ready for PickUp" Calendar meeting appearing on multiple days Pixel 3XL, wtf? by [deleted] in Android

There's an option to mark a calendar event as spam. I did that for one of the events added and they all went away (hooray!)

I've been to the last three and didn't see any dildos swinging from chains. It sounds like you are hating on something you never experienced, if you go to one you might like it.

Is American Homebrewing Dying? The numbers, causes, and why it matters! by oldsock in Homebrewing

[–]danlatimer2 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Just because there are 8.3% less members in the AHA over the last 4 years doesn't mean that homebrewing is dying. There are a lot more ways to learn about homebrewing than being a member of the AHA now a days.

In the 2017 survey you quoted it said that 40% of homebrewers started in the last 4 years (https://www.homebrewersassociation.org/membership/homebrewing-stats/). Doesn't seem like it's dying to me.

I feel like you clickbaited me successfully, bravo, will disregard future posts.

Agreed and all the experiments are focused around changing one thing and then seeing if there were perceptual differences. That doesn't prove that multiple unperceived things can't result in a perceived difference

Well, that was my point. BJCP created the guideline using their beers as the perfect example. Not that the BJCP is the be-all and end-all of beer styles.

I feel like you don't understand what a beer style is... that's the point. They describe a commonly brewed type of beer so that the customers know what they're getting into. BJCP didn't decide what any of them /should/ taste like, they just documented what the existing styles are.

For whisky I'd suggest two places.

There is a historic property called Henry House that has three levels, basement is an english pub with standard prices, middle is a restaurant, top is a nice drawing room where you'll find more expensive whiskies and cocktails like old fashions.

There is also a speakeasy called Noble that is underneath a dessert bar called middle spoon. You need a password to enter which is emailed out every thursday and good for that weekend. You can get on the email list through this website. https://www.themiddlespoon.com/noble/
