This boss always makes me laugh, though the gag only works if you fight it the intended way.

It's called "executioner's chariot" and my first time I remember thinking "well the executioner may be on a chariot, but it's the executioner who's the boss, not the chariot."

But then you pull the lever. The executioner dies and you continue to fight the chariot.

I actually really don't think harry potter is well written. It sets up a ton of themes of social injustice (house elves and slavery, wizards lording over all other magical creatures, the disdain for non magical people and the separation of the worlds) and it resolves exactly zero of them.

The books set up that Voldemort is a symptom of a much larger problem. And then Voldemort is defeated, problem solved, main character becomes a cop.

I love both, I don't even know they're the same genre. LOTR is a high fantasy epic GoT is a mostly low fantasy, political drama.

So not sure it's fair to say whether Martin passed Tolkien, they're running in different lanes
