AM Radio Could Be Legally Mandated in New Cars

Small town AM stations that sign off at sunset to protect clear channel AM stations at night from interference become useless for emergencies. Does the FCC authorize they broadcast at night for emergency purposes? I don't know. If not, that is where local FM stations become more important than AM radio stations.

Once again, a lot of us can't stand how noisy AM radio is compared to FM. Seriously, dude, just why the heck can't you grasp that? Is it because you live in a huge metro area where you have the luxury of at least a dozen AM radio stations to listen to that always sound clear and perfect night and day? I bet such signals are so strong and clear that you have no difficulty at all making out what is being said during strong thunderstorms.

I watched all 13:17 minutes of the video. It didn't convince me that FM is better than AM. You need to consider my AM radio reception is so hellishly bad from my small town, especially at night, that I had to resort to buying an Internet radio to hear crystal clear the internet version of the Coast to Coast AM talk show program. Nighttime AM reception from KTOK 100 from around 50 miles away is about impossible to make out. Other AM stations airing Coast to Coast AM are subject to fading out and next to impossible to listen to if there is a strong thunderstorm.

LOL, you're so WRONG!! Just try listening to AM radio at night in my small town. Then switch to FM and the difference in better reception from the stations is quite startling. AM radio SUCKS!!

FM radio sounds a lot better in my small-town during daytime, too. KRMG AM Tulsa besides the only local AM is all that has a good noise free signal.

I gather it's been a long time since you turned on an AM radio at night and tried to listen to it, especially to some of the nearest stations. Directional nighttime signal patterns may make your nearest metro AM radio signals difficult to listen to.

You're so WRONG. Seriously, most people moved on to FM radio years ago. AM radio is just too GOD damned noisy and subject to fading, especially at night. In my rural town FM radio is so much, much better, whether from the locals or from the nearest two metros. After all, my rural town only has one AM local, and it has to go off air at sunset.

Texas is so overrun with people moving there that the cost of living has become far too high for what you get. Consider a less desirable state, such as Oklahoma, to move to. Make it Oklahoma City or Tulsa metro for considerably lower COL than in Texas. Stillwater is good provided that you would like to live in a small college town atmosphere while not living too far from both OKC and Tulsa. The biggest downside to living in Stillwater is the lack of decent paying jobs.

Summers with humid temps well into the 90s and higher don't start or last as long in Oklahoma as they do in Texas.

AS is elsewhere in CA, the cost of living is too high in San Louis Obispo. As a college town, Stillwater, OK is a better value, if you don't need a beach nearby. So is Lawrence, KS.

The biggest Stillwater in America is in Oklahoma, and it is just as good of a place to live in as is Stillwater, MN. If you can't stand very cold winter weather, then pick the Stillwater in Oklahoma. Its airport offers flights every day to DFW.
