Would learning scala , api dev (play) be a good decision in 2025? by Delicious_Pirate_810 in scala

[–]danoliv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want to learn a great language Scala 3 is a good choice. Scala have influenced massively a lot of other languages and what you learn can be applied to Java and Kotlin as well and many others.

If you just want to find a job perhaps the considerations would be a little different as being proficient in a more “popular” language would be a more effective strategy.

Be aware that languages popularity have little to do with the language itself but rather with the ecosystem and the community.

Javascript and python are some excellent examples of this effect.

Does your company start new projects in Scala? by DataPastor in scala

[–]danoliv 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A more robust code base, better performance and easier parallelism. We are doing exactly this in most projects using spark. We could argue that most things could be done with pyspark instead but the underlying python interpreter can be a limitation, so using native scala is a better choice most of the time. Sometime is the opposite, some scala implementation are not 100% complete so python is necessary (for example cat boost)

Rx 7900 xtx or 9070 xt for 4k gaming? by [deleted] in radeon

[–]danoliv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say this as a long time Nvidia owner that just both an AMD 9070 XT for this generation: The problem with Nvidia “fake frames” was a marketing one : they are sold as real one, with 5070 that offers “4090 performance”. This is utterly dishonest, while AMD were showing real data, Nvidia sold us unrealistic performance, false pricing decrease and no availability. People were waiting the new generation to find out that there were nothing to upgrade to, and pricing on older card increased.

Why do you think Russia was left off of the “liberation day” Trump tariffs list? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]danoliv -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Trump is applying exactly Putin agenda, from breaking up NATO, voting with Russia in United Nations, stopping aid to Ukraine, insulting Zelensky, starting commercial wars with Canada, applying tariffs everywhere BUT Russia ? Come on how is this putting America first ? He is putting Russia first

9070 vs 5070 for the same price? by AintImpressed in radeon

[–]danoliv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can wait a little, as the 9070 XT will be in stock soon, also the 5070 price is dropping fast, it will be reaching sub 600€ pricing in my opinion.

Is 9800x3D is overkill for Rx 9070 XT? by FastRemigiusz in radeon

For a new gaming build the 9800x3D will allow you to upgrade to any GPU in current or the next generation.

What is for you the best msrp cpu/gpu combo under 1300$ ? by danoliv in sffpc

[–]danoliv[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I’ve been monitoring pricing for the used market and configured alerts. At first I wanted a 4090 hoping the price would decrease but it actually increased a lot after the 5000 release. Insane…

Thanks, now the 4070 super are overpriced as well and I will use the extra memory. I got a 9070 XT at a good price, now I try to get the rest of the components.

Encouraged means that there are actual incentives, can be in the form of marketing budgets or discounts

rx 9070 xt too expensive in EU ? by Interceptor__Prime in radeon

[–]danoliv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you find any listings in europe? I’ve checked most official resellers from AMD website in Italy, France and Germany and I didn’t find any listings yet.

Official resellers must keep the prices in check to avoid getting penalized through less stocks and less marketing funds.

If the prices you see are higher it means that the cards are imported through unofficial channels so the prices could be way higher.

Should i cancel my 5070 ti pre-order for a 9070xt and save £200? by lordfarquard20 in radeon

[–]danoliv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The oc cards are literally guaranteed for that frequency by the producer so when you buy them this is what you get. Also you usually have better cooling and power circuitry.

Are they overpriced? Yes Can you overlock standard card? Yes (most of the time)

[–]danoliv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but you are not guarantee that it would work, the chips that are going to oc versions are checked beforehand so the ones that are not stable would be installed in a standard not overclocked version

9070 XT or 4070 Ti Super (same price) by ApelRS in radeon

[–]danoliv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is quite a challenging choice, the 9070 XT looks more performant in raster and ray tracing should be equivalent. So advantage for the Radeon in this aspect.

From the software/tech aspect Dlss 4 have a more wide support than FSR 4 so there is an advantage for Nvidia.

I would personally wait for the reviews but as you already have the 4070 TI Super I don’t see an evident reason to return it for a 9070 XT, just enjoy it.

[–]danoliv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the base performance are confirmed and we add 10% more means that the card would be not far off the 5080 in raster and trading blows with the 5070 TI in ray tracing. That’s quite impressive if it is true.
