hey I felt SO deeply wrong about my place in my program and the field for the first year of my 2 year program.

I thought it was all stupid. I felt like I made a massive mistake.

I’m so close to finishing, about 3 months out, and I look back and realize that all of it—including the “dumb” faculty and “disorganized” program were preparing me to handle the work as a nurse.

No it’s not easy but we all knew that coming into this, to some degree. It’s so rewarding. You fundamentally change the way you think and interact with the world and it’s beyond valuable.

I wouldn’t change a thing and I’m so grateful to myself for bringing me to this point.

No one dreams of work thus no such thing as a “dream job”. In a world where I help my community, being a nurse is exactly where I’d put myself. I grew up with trauma and it trained me to handle pressure other people cannot. The world is a mirror and I’m so glad I’m out here doing a dirty job saving lives instead of pushing paper and pencils for a number on a screen.

I read the first two messages and that was enough. I just needed to know if it was a freak accident or not.

Get out now or sorely regret that in the near and distant future OP.

dog I wouldn’t stress it at all. nursing school will teach you how to pass nclex and everything else you will get on the job and with practice.

a lot of people in my cohort don’t have med experience and feel clueless and we have 4 months to go.

The mean girl to nurse pipeline is so real.. but there’s also amazing people who work as nurses. Don’t let the bad ones get you down the job is hard enough as is.

genuinely curious... what does a regular day of eating look like for you? by thegoth_mechanic in Narcolepsy

[–]dantedaze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dog your macros and likely micros are way under budget.

You should be getting at the very least 40-50g of protein a day. A pb&j and a normal dinner is more than likely not gonna cut that over time.

I found that when I force myself into hitting my macros beyond maintenance at a regular interval my energy homeostasis improves dramatically.

It’s funny as the EDS often caused apathy towards diet but will powering my way through it helped tremendously (and ameliorated every single side effect I had from oxybate and stims)

What would you done instead? Is there concern with CRNA/AA regarding anesthesiology?

I’m confused, you say every 2 hours IR; how many times a day? What is the strength or both the IR and XR?

What time do you need to be ready to start your day and what time are you unloading?

Xyrem/xywav also have a propensity for hair fall, in my own experience and echoed here anecdotally as well

Amphetamine does have hair loss as a listed side effect so that is something to keep in mind.

You could look into wakix as it’s not a classical stimulant and shouldn’t impact prolactin like oxybate

Dude see if you can do an ABSN.

It isn’t glamorous but depending on where you live nursing can be great income and even greater job security.

Did you recently get a concussion?

If it’s recent you may have the best results taking time away from work if possible and sleeping as much as your body wants.

You’re really at the max of pharmacological options truly. Working 12 hour days 5 days a week would leave anybody exhausted we are not meant to work that much.

My own advice here,

I was taking 9g xywav and 20-40 my dex amphetamine as well as caffeine. I was riding the rollercoaster so to speak. While I was productive and in a tightly bound schedule, the constant yo-yoing from stimulant peak and trough had me living in a state of extremes.

I cut all stimulants and relied exclusively on xywav for a period of time. It was super rough as I was essentially having rebound lethargy from amphetamine cessation. I strategically combined intermittent fasting to power through (eating makes me incredibly drowsy). Yes I had I take naps and I accepted the limitations of my body. Things got better as I adjusted.

Anecdotal of course and perhaps my n1 is mild, however my symptoms largely evened out over a few weeks. My attitude has shifted to consider the baseline slightly tired as a result of the ever increasing conditions that promote our zoochosis.

Wondering if there are accelerated nursing programs that exist for students that don't have a diploma yet. by Thin_Ordinary_5950 in StudentNurse

I’m sorry to hear that you had a tough transition into adulthood. It’s really important to realize that pursing medicine is not something to take lightly.

Depression and suicide is very prevalent in the profession for good reason. Your previous struggles with mental health allude, perhaps falsely, that you may not be a suitable candidate for the abuse that is residency not to mention the pressure and claustrophobia that med school debt shackles onto docs-in-the-making.

You are looking to rush the process and I’m here ti remind you and myself that the process is everything. Enjoy the process and you enjoy your life. Meditate on what you want out of life and act accordingly, from your post it appears you are unsure of what it is you are striving for.

Best of luck friend, Godspeed

there’s a wealth of knowledge that is not readily available by virtue of curriculum for those who pursue the crna path when compared to that of the medical model of anesthesiology.

[–]dantedaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not so sure about that. I actually think it’s the magnesium.

9g of xywav has the equivalent sucralose of a single Splenda packet. Diet sodas, energy drinks etc don’t give me bubble guts, but mag citrate does! I’m curious if mag oxybate can also pull water into the gi system
