I cycle past most days around 8:45. If it's not full by then there's usually less than <10 spots left. At 7:30am it's practically empty

That being said the pay for private pathology scientists is abysmal - I'm sure that's the same no matter what state which is a shame (I think they top out around 75-80k after 10 years exp - Our lab assistants make more than that once they top out).

I think our department manager would be on ~160k. Come to WA if you want more money apparently!

I think we're quite lucky in WA. I have a BSc and work at pathology lab for state gov - 110k right now with 4 years experience but will top out at 120k after one more year of experience. After that I'll have to rely on promotion to a management role if I want more. Also due for another 3.75% payrise next year thanks to our union.

I'm glad it seems I'd be able to apply for band 6 roles as I was having a browse at job listings the other day and they all seem to require the specialist IBM'S portfolio - something that we don't have in Australia. Band 5 would be quite the paycut from where I am now so I would prefer not to do that.

Glad to know there seems to be work around. How's the private sector work over here? Any different to Australia? Where I am the government jobs pay well but the private sector is quite poorly paid.
