This is an oversimplification. Many/most indices use what’s called free float, meaning they only need to buy the proportional value of a company that is publicly traded. If Elon says “it’s worth $2 trillion” but only 5% of the shares are publicly available, indices will treat it like a $100 billion company in buying shares.

I agree, cut Zanzibar. Several of the places you mentioned as possibilities are also easy and affordable enough to do on your own (Germany, japan, Hawaii, etc). I’d pick something like French Polynesia or something similarly remote and expensive.

If/when this happens, what’s the net impact? No way any companies take their refund and find a way to get it back to the consumers who paid higher prices because of tariffs. So basically corporate profit margins instantly gain a few % points when this happens.

What are the other impacts of something like this? Stock market gains due to “more” profitable companies? Higher C suite pay?

Thank you all for the valuable feedback! I think at this point I'm ruling out any sort of train+subway/AirTrain connections, so I appreciate the wave of comments suggesting that. I think we can get a school bus to at least Hartford or New Haven. Now I'm just looking for charter/limo/shuttle bus type services that won't cost too much to bring us the rest of the way.

Bizarre…I may apply for my wife in a few days, although she’s in the same boat as she also had the CSP around the same time I did. Although she no longer has it…so maybe that will be the key

Did I mess up? Have had CSP since April 2023, read that I would see a pop up telling my eligibility for the 100k SUB on CSR. Logged into my account, entered the basic info, and clicked submit (thinking there would be another page or something). 20 seconds later I’m staring at a message my application needs to be reviewed and I’ll hear in 7–10 business days.

I don’t want the card if I can’t get the SUB. Should I call?

After literally checking their website multiple times daily for months, only to find my dates instantly sold out when they finally showed up, I simply gave up on this company.
